ICECOLD
Looking to buy a dirt bike but the owner doesn't have the title. He has a certificate of ownership. How hard is to get the title? He told me, all u have to do is present that with the bike to the bmv and get the title. Is it that easy?
TSB67
If the owner is out of state, yeah. That being said I would have no problem buying a dirt bike with MCO only if I only planned to use it closed course.
imprez55
Its not that easy always. I went through a big ordeal having a MCO and bills of sales tracing back to the original owner and I could not get a title. If it is a dirt bike being used for a closed course or offroad use only (as brian said) then I would buy it no problem and get a bill of sale. If you are planning on trying to title it and get plates, I would be wary and get things in writing from the BMV beforehand.
ICECOLD
I'm looking to ride trails. Need a sticker and I don't think you can get one without a title.
Gixxus Christ!
If the bike was ever titled the rightful owner can have a copy printed at the title office for $
ridein
If it's that easy have him get the title and then buy it......Now thats easy!!
ICECOLD
The bike has never been titled. Original owner is in IN. The guy that I'm buying the bike from is the 2nd owner.
ridein
I would tell him to go to the title office with you to get title.Other than that Good Luck..........
Gixxus Christ!
How old is the bike? Up until a certain year off-road machines weren't titled. After that (depending on the state it was sold in) the bikes were titled from the dealership. Sounds like you need to dig deeper into this toy before you put cash on the barrelhead. TSB67
What sort of bike are you looking for?
4DAIVI PAI2K5
98 is the certain year. I looked into this as both my bikes were from out of state and on the 2nd Ohio owners when I bought them. BMV made it sound like a huge PITA. Sucks because I want to ride Wayne with everyone. ICECOLD
The bike is a 2003 KTM 250 SX. Sounds like it would be more of a hastle than anything.
TSB67
http://bmv.ohio.gov/registration_titling_apv_usv.stmNot sure if the lists on the left are "OR" or "AND."10 years ago I got a title from an MCO on the third try. I learned it is best to go to the BMV and tell them what to do rather than ask.
