bshultz0930
Well I went out this morning and went to get on my cbr. Started great. Everytime I shift into gear it dies. Clutch switch works fine. The kick stand light goes up when kicked. Trans is not locked up. Is there a seperate system on the stand to kill is that's not in junction with the light? jester3681
Probably - I had this issue with my 98 VTR.
bshultz0930
I jumped it and was able to crank over the engine in first gear without the physical clutch lever pulled, which told me the clutch switch and the trans were fine. bshultz0930
alright, well now that my kids are asleep i did a little more investigating. the kick stand switch is working. when kicked up i have the ground i should have coming through the switch its self, now im looking for the diode that it goes through next to see if i have it there and past it, but i cant find the diode, went through every page of the manual but i havent googled it yet. gixxie750
just jump the clutch switch wires and if that does not work jump the kickstand wires. what happens if you try to start it in gear with clutch pulled? Deff sounds like clutch switch!
bshultz0930
negative, clutch switch and the stand switch are working great, tested with a ohm meter. trying to find the diode that part of the wiring splices off and goes to a different part. bshultz0930
Well I found the diode. I have zero continuity going through it either direction. I'm going to bring home a better ohm meter Monday from work and check it. The testers I have here are el cheapo equipment.
bshultz0930
Well after bringing home proper tools, it's fixed. When I bought the bike, guy said he just put a ignition control module on it and everything was running fine. That was about 6 months ago. Rechecked all the wiring and found where the kick stand wire goes into the connector for the module the terminal had backed out enough not to touch. So I pushed it back in and wahla! oldschoolsdime92
My Cbr did the exact same thing, hence buying the sensor that's on it's way to you:-)
