  1. I'll bet the Mercury Mystique I've got for sale makes more horsepower than torque. 2.5L V6, it spins to, I believe, 7k RPM.
  2. If you are talking about small displacement motors, like a honda 1.8L or something, in order to get that horsepower they have to rev much higher. The higher the rev, the larger the difference between the horsepower and torque numbers. When you are talking about a larger displacement motor with the same number of pistons, such as my 2.4, the longer stroke prevents it from revving as high as the 1.8 honda, therefore keeping the horsepower lower than the torque number. It's all about the equation to measure horsepower, like Joel was talking about. My redline is 5600 RPM, obviously it stops making power well before that.
  3. just a run of the mill desktop for some gaming, and small footprint. I ended up getting an Asus A7N8X-VM/400 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-131-483&depa=1
  4. umm, yes long stroke four cylinder, of course it's more torque than horsepower. Unfortuanately, that means my redline isn't nearly as high as I would like.
  5. already ordered everything, thanks though
  6. also - whats the difference between the Athlon XP's "Thorobred" core and "Thorton" core?
  7. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=property&DEPA=1 That's the list of Micro ATX boards that newegg has. I would like something that I can game with, built in LAN and sound. Video would be nice, because it will be a while before I can afford a good video card. I think that all the boards on that list will run an AMD XP processor, but I'm not sure what other AMD chips will run on the same board. The board must be reliable, and I don't want to have to fight it to get all the onboard stuff set up. I'm asking because I've not been paying any attention to the computer industry. I saw that there are several new brands that I have never heard of, and I don't know whats good. I've always used Asus, but to be honest, I'm getting tired of fighting the board. Right now, I can't get the board in my desktop to let me install the driver for the built in NIC. It's frustrating. I've had issues with a lot of other Asus boards too. Enough rambling, thanks in advance for the help.

  11. From what I've been seeing, these chips are ~$50, a couple bucks less if more than one is purchased (hint hint) But, I suppose that is just the start. Next step is a bigger hard drive, which I may be purchasing tomorrow (black friday). Other than that, are BIOS flashes free for download? Anyone?
  12. http://www.pavementsucks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=53743 click the link on the site that comes up A Diesel Ram that's as far from running 10's as Anthony
  13. http://www.americanxboxmodchips.com/ozxodus-xenium-solderless.htm that one? And memory slots, as in, more RAM?
  14. X-Ecuter 3 is out. Any thoughts on that? I couldn't tell, but I think it's solder only which I don't want to deal with.
  15. Does anyone on here know anything about modding an XBOX? I'm wanting to do it so that I can save games on my hard drive, and use it as a Linux box. I've been looking around online at the different mod chips, and the info feels misleading. I haven't really found any information that seems concrete enough to rely on. What I am looking for is a mod chip that is solderless, can be defeated with a switch to use it normally, can play games saved on the hard drive or burned, will accept an upgraded hard drive, and will allow me to run it as a Linux box. Right now, I'm looking at the X-B.I.T. chip here: http://www.americanxboxmodchips.com/xbit.htm But what confuses me is that it says that it is "Flash Free" but it allows modifications to the bios via USB cable? Wouldn't that be flashing it? TIA

  19. + Firefox I still cannot comprehend why people are complaining about getting popups when it's so damned easy to use software that is not only secure, but has more features, and looks better. I'll never leave Trillian or Mozilla EVAR.
