  1. Supposedly the bleach is supposed to cause "instant rust" in the gas tank. Which then fouls the fuel system. But it seems to me that the large amount of plain water would win out, and cause the engine to stall. The tank might become rusty inside. Boston Globe Car Doctor: http://www.boston.com/cars/researchandadvice/2008/07/10/the_car_doctor/ Mythbusters episode: http://mythbustersresults.com/episode15 edit: Oddly enough, I clean rusty tanks with acid. And then recoat the inside with a surface treatment to replace what was originally there on the inside of the tank. Not as effective as buying a new tank. On cars/trucks, a new tank is pretty cheap. The fear is that the corrosion will get to other parts of the fuel system. But if the fuel lines and fuel parts are stainless steel or brass, it won't happen. The concept of rusting the pistons or other parts of the engine is not very plausible.
  2. Gladius looks like a standard. Yay, I vote for standard. The best of all worlds. Does look better than the Euro Hornet re-make. I wonder if the Gladius has enough ground clearance to be considered back road worthy.

    white dudes

I was about to say something like what Sara said. You are intimidating to them, but yet they aren't afraid. And pretty much kids (up to 68) like to try to force muscle bikes and cars to launch. Blame the movies for that. But aren't you special, no one ever does that to me. So I guess they are flirting, in their own special way. The only thing they could think of in their limited vocabulary. And not a very good method at that. So don't be smiling at them, either ignore or laugh or give that special motorcycle "Look of Death" if you're not in the mood. I'm still amazed at SUVs going to work in the morning. Or soccer moms/dads on the freeway. The ones that not only think they can go faster than my bike, but STOP faster as well. What are they thinking. I let them go, they are accidents looking for a place to happen.
  4. Well then, it's on to how much bike weight can be picked up when it's on it's side. That's the world of off-road, heh?

  6. The usual has happened. As usual... So anyway, let's try and pick out a bike for Sara. She looks pretty tall, but adventure bikes are taller than tall sometimes. What's the tallness limit? Sara? how tall? And what bikes of the adventure class type have you sat on to try out?

    I'm poor!

You know what? People think that once out of school they never have to go back. I had to, there was too much stuff in engineering that had changed. Like computers, for one. So don't plan on never taking classes again. It will happen. And of course, it's even worse now. It's said that any technology will completely change in just two years. That's all it takes at the pace of discovery that is going on now. Makes me want to become a farmer... they use computers now also, I'll feel right at home.
  11. http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2009/05/cyclist_track_worker_killed_in.html A motorcycle rider and an employee of Barber Motorsports were killed this morning when the employee was struck while cleaning debris from the track during a test run for the motorcyclist, according to Capt. C.W. Mardis, spokesman for the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service. The 33-year-old woman on the motorcycle and the track worker, age unavailable, had massive head and body injuries after the 10:15 a.m. wreck, Mardis said. They were pronounced dead at the track. Identification of the motorcycle rider and track employee were not immediately available.

  14. Aeroquip distributors in Columbus: http://web2.fluidpower.eaton.com/DistributorLocatorHyd/DistributorLocator.aspx I'm not going to list them all, but I've used Fournier before. FOURNIER RUBBER & SUPPLY 1341 NORTON AVE COLUMBUS, OH 43212 US Phone: 614-294-6453 Fax: 614-294-0644 Email: jdempsey@fournierrubber.com www.fournierrubber.com Take your brake hose with you, it's possible they might crimp it there for a few bucks. edit: a lot of these places don't do walk-ins anymore, call ahead and check first.
  15. Next is little rearward firing missiles and a tiny targeting system? Very cool. Fire rearward missiles dammit! - Clint Eastwood - FireFox (Dammit реактивных снарядов палаты пожара заднее!)
  16. Aeroquip or Earl's Performance. Summit Racing in Northern Ohio, I'd use the catalog on line and mail order it rather than drive there. Aircraft supply stores around the airports. Aeroquip probably makes one of those. If they don't have one, should be able to order it. Aircraft parts cost more than car parts, even if it's the same part. You didn't say what size. Need specs for it. But here is an example: looks like 20 degree -3 AN 10 mm http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1∂=EAR%2D9978034ERL&N=700+4294733687+4294847273+115&autoview=sku edit: I just looked, Summit has brake lines that are 48 inches long. That's the normal max. There is one at 86 inches, too long.

    Army Mule

Understand how far this has all advanced. Early prototypes at OSU in the 70s, would take a few steps an hour, big as a dump truck, and then fall over. The future is batches of scary creepy fast mechs that will be running circles around you.

  20. Mentioning lots of cops... I've been told that the roads going SE out of Columbus toward Coshocton and Amish country are being patrolled with speed trap units. Especially the long straight stretches of road that invite high speed. I've only heard of 3 such areas, but there are only two major roads going out that way. Part of this is the high number of motorcycle fatalities that have been seen in several of the counties up that way. Never mind that it was almost all riders not wearing helmets. And the fatalities were not on open stretches of road. But that means they will be targeting motorcycles, I think.
  21. I try to put down 300 to 500 miles every weekend, in good weather. And ride every day to work, even if it means getting wet on the way home. I had almost exactly 8000 miles last year (2008). Which I don't think is very much at all. I don't ride in the Winter, or the salt, but I'll try to ride in December, and then again in early March. Yeah, a lot of my riding is solo. And sometimes it's pretty cold temperatures. I really need a second bike with ABS and long range willingness. More comfortable would be nice.
  22. cripes! warm weather is here, accidents all over the place on the way home. Flashing lights behind me, flashing lights in front of me, accident on the freeway, and one big ass wreck on 5th Ave between Cassidy and James (Columbus). Right in front of the dang little grocery store. Cars, vans, a semi, and at least one big cruiser over on it's side. I think that was who went home on a stretcher. I'm guessing he low sided when cars crashed in front of him. All 4 lanes blocked, I'd stay off of 5th avenue for a while. So it's warm, and people are doing dumb things, don't be one of them. Be careful tonight, and this week... Nothing on the news yet.
  23. didn't see you say, but your's is a 600 Katana? rear 140/80-17 stock? Iron pony don't have a Shinko listed in that size on their website, but I did see a BT-45 BATTLAX for 94.99
