  1. Email received from rideohio today... As many of you already know, our finest member and co-founder of RideOhio, Mark Moyer (Passinthru), passed away last weekend. Dan has posted a thread with the funeral details: http://rideohio.org/showthread.php?t=14534 There is also a thread of pictures of Mark: http://rideohio.org/showthread.php?t=14516 Finally, there is a thread with details on making a donation: http://rideohio.org/showthread.php?t=14522 Mark brought so many gifts to our lives. We will never forget him.
  2. Umm, wrong Ben. I've been doing Fire & Security Systems since 1995, with 5yrears of that doing mostly residential, I think I know a little bit about this topic. I did some checking with two of my friends from NE Ohio that operate two different professional alarm companies and BOTH of them confirmed that their central stations procedure on a burglar alarm signal is.... 1. Call the premise. 2. If no answer at premise, dispatch the police 3. Start calling the contact list One of them did however confirm theirs used the "one minute delay" thing mentioned, the other had no delay. Both of them use different stations, they are "Rapid Response" and "Emergency 24", two very well know non-proprietary central stations. I'm not sure why some of you think delaying police notification is a good thing. The first phone call to the premise determines false alarm or not, why delay things?
  3. Not to mention the obvious... a dog can't call you or the police Dogs are great to protect YOU when you are home, thats about it.
  4. MaxPower, he has his own biz and is a sponsor here... http://www.facebook.com/pages/Detty-Installations-Security-and-Low-Voltage-Services/346884257658
  5. I'm not trying to yell at you, just don't know why you would consider there SOP acceptable. I think it stinks.
  6. FALSE. A delay in calling the premise only delays calling the premise, it doesn't prevent a false alarm. A phone call has nothing to do with a false alarm. If they call and you answer with the correct passcode, all is fine, there is no false alarm. This is the whole reason for calling in the first place, to determine the situation, to delay the call is just stupid. And you pay them for this service?? That is the reason right there you don't want to use them! No answer at the premise = call to police, from any other alarm company that is . What the hell is the point in calling me at work if my alarm is going off at home, send the police to check it out then call me. That is standard operating protocol for central station monitoring, its surprising ADT stays in business with SOP's like that. Just curious, what are the protocols for some of you other guys out here with central station monitoring that don't have ADT, let's see how ADT compares...
  7. Not sure where you live or what kind of system you have but your phone should be ringing (call from monitoring) in 30sec or less after an alarm is triggered, and if you don't answer, the police should be notified immediately, so were talking about minute at the most. As for police response, again, not sure where you live but here in Columbus a home alarm call gets a fairly quick response and usually the helicopter arrives before the cars. Yes, they dispatch the helicopter on alarm drops, seen it several times in my neighborhood. All I can say is that if it took HOURS for the police to respond to an active alarm at my residence I'd be more than a bit pissed and someone would have some splaynin to do!
  8. You don't want ADT. Talk to Shawn. PS. I'll sell you a couple ADT signs for $50 , seriously, I have 2 in the garage.
  9. Didn't know him, but I'm sorry for your loss.
  10. But they are not directly tied to your money. We stopped using our bank debit card for purchases/services awhile ago, the only time it gets used is at the atm machine for deposits and withdrawls. We use a Capital One Rewards Visa for EVERYTHING and then I simply take the receipts at the end of the week and make a payment every Friday or Saturday in the amount of the weeks receipts. Bank account stays safe AND we earn rewards points. I've also started using a GreenDot prepaid Visa for most of my online purchases now instead of the Capital One card.
  11. Got mine today, pretty pink Still nice for free.
  12. I didn't check my mail today, the excitement is killing me
  13. I just got home. Worked late. Exhausted. Pizza ordered
  14. Wife and I both have Samsung Fascinates, love them, only gripe is battery life but I just remedied that problem almost completely by not using a "active" wallpaper and using a standard image background. The active background seemed to be the culprit in killing the battery very quickly. It last me pretty much all day now instead of half a day like before.
  15. Your story, and the incident that killed this rider are examples of why we as riders need to make sure we give ourselves room to react to situations that we will all at some point encounter. Everytime I see a rider right on the ass of a car on the highway it makes me cringe just knowing what could happen from a simple pothole that the rider would never see in time.
  16. I got Dayton too. Also "securemailhost.info" doesn't even come up as a valid DNS record, the name shows "available" when you search on it. 69.133.106.212 IP address location & more: IP address [?]: 69.133.106.212 [Whois] [Reverse IP] IP country code: US IP address country: United States IP address state: Ohio IP address city: Dayton IP postcode: 45415 IP address latitude: 39.8352 IP address longitude: -84.2550 ISP of this IP [?]: Road Runner Organization: Road Runner Host of this IP: [?]: cpe-69-133-106-212.woh.res.rr.com[Whois] [Trace] Local time in United States: 2011-08-16 21:13
  17. Don't know if anymore details have been released yet, but knowing the area where this happened I can almost visualize it as going down like this... Rider northbound, car entering northbound from greenlawn, car shoots across four lanes to try and get over in far left to get onto 70W, car takes out rider that they did not see because they changed lanes too quickly. That's just a guess based on activity I see on that section of road. EDIT: Nevermind, more details in the video on Ben's link, looks like bike swerved around some debris into the path of the car.
  18. Got a text about this earlier. Rip.
  19. Is that code for coed adult kickball
