  1. For 2014's resolution, I was successful in not going to any of the 4 top fast food chains (McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, and Taco Bell (two years for TB)).

I still gained weight last year. A lot of stress for various reasons kicked in my need for beer and chocolate. My focus for this year, which is going to be much harder than last, is to cut out most of my beer and sugar intake.

I've taken measurements, photos and logging daily food/activity on MyFitnessPal to keep me accountable and record changes. I need to lose this weight. At least 10 pounds by spring.

  2. Sorry for your loss. Some of my hardest moments were the last moments spent with my two dogs. I think no matter the circumstance, you'll always feel a terrible guilt about what you could have, would have, should have done to make their lives better. Our beloved pets die, and hopefully with us by their side to ensure they've lived as comfortable life as we could give them. Hope you find your peace soon.

  3. I just got married a couple weeks ago. I wanted to elope, but my husband actually wanted the ceremony/reception. I really dislike being the center of attention; he loves it. In the end, I'm glad we had the wedding/reception. It turned out being a lot of fun. Anyhow, we spent about 5k and invited about 100 guests. We can't understand the logic of starting a marriage with debt created by a wedding.

One of the big cost savers was finding a venue that allows you to bring your own alcohol in. That was also important because we brewed our own batch of beer just for the wedding. Have a afternoon wedding instead of an evening one will save money as well.

  4. I need to get some exterior trim up on my home. This is something I've been planning to do my self; just needed to go out and buy a miter saw and some brick mould. But I'm thinking there may be a little more to it than that. In the winter, my house is freezing. I feel cold air around the windows (windows are about 8 years old, double pane), so I think there should probably be some type of insulation under the moulding? Also, since the original casing around the door was never painted/sealed, it's rotted and needs pulled and replaced.

Can anyone refer a good carpenter? I'm in Pataskala area.

Or is this just a matter of spraying in some foam insulation and nailing up some brick mould?

  5. It really is one of the worst feelings ever. I had to put my little guy down a couple months ago, and my big guy down the year before. You're doing it right with the extra treats, special meals and lots of attention. It helps knowing that you've done your best for them. Sorry you're experiencing this tough time.

  6. I don't think you can just go there though. It's a camp for under privileged kids. They also do corporate events. But I don't think it's open to the public. I volunteer there occasionally.

You could be right, I've never gone on my own. First time was a middle school field trip, second time was for a company outing.

  7. Another one of my specialties is Beer butt chicken.

Just Google it and pick a recipe that sounds good. I prefer to smoke it.

Beer butt chicken? I call it drunken chicken. Either way, it's damn good.

I used to never cook. Absolutely hated it. But in order to eat healthy, you kinda have to. So I've learn. Here's the first real baked chicken recipe I've learned that was super simple, has a lot of flavor and cooks perfectly almost every time. It's still hands down, one of my favorites.

    Preheat oven to  400F

Coat a glass casserole dish with non-stick spray

Put the chicken breast in the casserole dish, rib side up. Brush with olive oil and drizzle with lemon juice.

Sprinkle with salt, pepper, parsley and rosemary to taste. If unsure, start out with about a 1/8 tsp of rosemary and parsley per breast, per side.

Turn chicken over, repeat olive oil, lemon juice and seasoning procedure.

Add chicken broth into the pan with the chicken (not over the chicken, you'll wash the spices off). I usually add about 1/4" of broth. Add about 1/4 to 1/2 tablespoon of lemon juice to the broth.

Put dish in the oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.

  8. KZ Kari did a fantastic job engraving this and I can't thank her enough!

I picked up some Arm-R-Seal on the suggestion of a good friend who refinishes lots of furniture and wood projects, then, Bowdog offered to seal it in bartop epoxy.

    What to do?

The guys at the woodworking store on Bethel said to seal it well or it will continue to dry and crack.

Think I'm gonna go with the epoxy unless someone has a compelling reason I shouldnt.

I'm glad it turned out as well as it did, and that you're happy with it. It's certainly a great idea and was a pleasure to help. Your wife will love it. You'll definitely have to post more pictures when it's complete.

  9. I also have a 2013 optima SX, 2.0 turbo. I've had it for two years, 46k. I love it, and have had no issues. My only complaint is the navigation system. It often likes to take routes that aren't the most efficient. I prefer using Waze for navigation anyhow.
