Have never been a fan of the BUELL/EBR bikes with the exception of the Ulysses.  If that bike had the Rotax or current mill I would have considered.

This bike would be ok if it was not lowered.

As IP said, there reliability is suspect and parts availability would keep me from considering.

The non-lowered verison is the SX, basically a hooligan naked.  I personally love the clean lines of the EBR's and find a lot of the new stuff coming out of Japan and Italy to be  very overwrought and busy.  On the Ulysses though, even the EBR fans have been screaming for an ADV EBR to succeed that design.  The EBR site has even had a mystery future model AX  listed which we all think will be the Uly replacement.  As far as reliability goes the bikes are solid, the 2014 had some first model year issues and my RX is 2016 bike number 7 off the line so it was subject to a couple issues with some soldering station changes to the fuel pump line (that's why its in the shop now).  I've ordered several parts directly from EBR (Quick Shifter, Tall Windscreen, replacement Rider Peg) and they always ship very quickly.  I know there is some hesitance due to Buell/EBR history but I truly think they've got it right now.  The 2018 release sub $10K bikes will really help them over the top, I hope.

  2. What is support like for your RX?  Are there actual dealers?  Are parts readily available?

I've ridden something like 60k on Buells, but lost interest in EBR.  For awhile Badweb was the best place for Buell support, and that forum was run by idiots...least it was when I was forced to use it.

Support has been great for me so far. Had a bit of a fuel pump issue and I emailed EBR support for help. They called me and stepped me through the trouble shooting, discovered it was an issue covered under the warranty and it's actually at the shop now getting fixed up. I've emailed support a couple times with off the wall questions (like asking for the paint code for some color matching) and they always get back to me within a couple days. The dealer network is small right now... very small. But I've spoken to several dealers around here about carrying them and I always get the same answer, "we will look at carrying them after they've got a couple years under them up and running"... so hopefully finishing the year in the black and still having enough to go to IMS is enough to bring a few more on board. Getting factory financing through thunder road will help get dealers interested too.

  3. EBR history scares me more than their bikes. Who knows who will be investing in the company, it changes so frequently. They have been through some ups and downs for sure.

Absolutely, that's why I bought my RX as soon as they came back. I wasn't sure how long they'd be up and running this time. But I've been really impressed with their progress and the way the new owners are handling the company. It's not some big bike company only interested in snuffing out competition or bleeding Erik dry with hundreds of engineering projects this time. It's an owner that actually has a vested interest in the success of EBR. As soon as they came in the set up a very conservative 5 year plan of determined and deliberate growth and development. They just released this bike and have also released that they plan to have a sub 10k bike for sale by 2018. I'm trying not to buy in just to have my hopes crushed again, but with the good work they are doing... they are making it hard not to.

  4. I'd be interested next time around but that bad mofo probably has a higher sticker price than I'd ever think of paying for a ride.

It's 13999, which isn't bad for 185 crank HP and 110 ft lbs, TC, and general all American badassness.

  5. Any one see the new 1190 model from EBR?

    EBR_Black_Lightning.jpg

Anyone familiar with the 1190sx will notice it's basically the same bike with a few street friendly tweaks:

    • Rider pegs lowered
    • Suspension lowered
    • Higher handlebars
    • Lowered gearing
    • Blacked out... everything

I think it looks bad ass (but riding an RX I might be a little biased).

Different helmets(+shell sizes) can act different off different bikes' windscreens. A touring screen(laminar lip, double bubble) might be a cheaper experiment? Run without the screen to see if it changes any? Then get any helmet you want.

Yea, I just installed the taller windscreen from EBR, I haven't had a chance to test it yet though.  I like the Alliance GT (Large) well enough that I'll keep it if it fixes the problem but after living and learning riding with some other EBR guys its not well known for its proficiency at speed.

  7. So, I looked around the posts to find something that would help me out but didn't find anything. Riding the 1190rx at high speed my Alliance GT helmet is ALL OVER THE PLACE even in full tuck. Looking for a better helmet, and I'm willing to pay for it this time. The #1 need is better stability at speed, secondary is the ability to easily add a comm system. I've been looking at the Nexx XR2 carbon pure, and that seems like it would definitly fill the #1 priority, but compared to the XT1 with the (optional) integrated comm it doesn't seem that it's designed really for adding a Bluetooth solution. Obviously there are other manufacturers out there and I don't really care what brand I end up getting. Really what I'm looking for are Supersport Rider's (full tuck to 3/4) opinions on streetable helmets that offer the best in stability but also off track practicality.

  8. There were quite a few Buell Friendly HD dealers out there but, the majority of HD dealers wanted to hide the bikes in the back behind the "Made In China" HD merchandise.  That was the problem many Buell fans faced, I was at an HD dealership wanting to look at the 1125 and when I asked to look at it the sales guy litterally said "Aw Man wouldn't you rather ride a real bike? I've got a sportster over here that I think you'd like" needless to say I left.

I called Biketown as soon as I saw them on the dealer list to ask when they would have one in stock and they are aiming to have one by December.  They seem very excited to have the bike and the guy knew the specs of the bike at least.  I'm not adversed to Harley Dealers carrying the bike and don't think I reflects badly on EBR at all but rather the opposite.  HD shut down Buell when the dealers who sold them right were struggling to keep them in stock and the ones who weren't selling them were the ones telling people not to buy them.  So i'm not supprised that the Buell friendly dealers are more than willing to bring in EBR and I will be happy to buy mine from Biketown.

  9. I understand what your saying about uniqueness of a 338 AR platform but when you talk about recoil and action manipulation causing target acquisition problems on a bolt rifle, you don think your going to have recoil issues with  338AR? :) The chances of a SHTF scenario where you need the stopping power of a 338 in a semi platform is about slim to none. Besides, if you cant hit your target, it doest matter what caliber your running. I would venture to say that 98% of people could not hit a 12" target at 400 yards. Let alone do it on the first shot. A quality .223/5.56 is plenty accurate to 700+ yards with the right ammo/shooter. Yeah windy days beat it up at distance though. If you want something different, can get ammo for and is still  a bit unique, check out an AR in 6.5 Creedmoor. Its a great cartridge.

yea the 338 idea came up while I was budgeting parts for an AR-10 in 308 with the end goal being a long distance rifle.  Think I'll go back to the 308 idea.

  10. $2900??  Holy shit. You could have had one of the best gunsmiths in the business build you a 100% custom for that and been way better off both in parts and performance.

    Example:  http://www.gaprecision.net/ga-precision-2013-custom-rifles/ga-precision-g.a.-precision-gap-10-.html

Can I ask why you want a .338 AR platform?

Yea 700 of that was the optic and that that and the fact that the weapon came with a standard A2 stock rather than the optional one pictured would make the one you gave as an example more expensive .  I really started liking the EcoTech sight on my M4 in the Airforce, much faster target acquisition than Irons (for me at least).

And the .338 SASS is bust, that one that I thought I found is .338 Fed not .338 Lapua, darn.  Really just want to build it for the unique, hobbyist and fun factor not to mention the SHTF potential.  I was q'd with BA and SA rifles in the AF even getting to use the Barret M98 and M98B back to back.  No matter how hard you try or how smooth you are with a bolt, target re-acquisition is hindered not only by recoil but by operating the action, this was especially a problem when dealing with a group of multiple targets.

  11. I'm liking this bike.  how much is it going to cost?

No official pricing yet but its safe to expect Duc / Aprilla pricing on the bike being that, even with the funds from Hero, EBR will not be able to churn out production like the Japanese brands.  Speculation has been that it will be some where in the $15,000 to $19,000 range.  I know that's a pretty large swath but Info is coming out of EBR in trickles right now.  The RX has been confirmed to be revealed in all its glory at the AIM Expo on Oct 16th...... needless to say... I'm a little excited.... just a little

  12. Let me know when you don't have to reboot your phone because it freezes. Then I might consider checking out Android. My number one priority is a phone that works all the time. Apple wins that one hands down against everything else out there (smartphone wise anyways). Oh, and you could say I'm tech educated.

I have had my S3 for over a year and I have never been forced to reboot it.  I reboot it once a month on the first just as a maintenance thing but it has never frozen, bugged and every app i have downloaded works flawlessly.  I have actually converted quite a few Apple users from the non tech side of the office to Samsung just by letting them play with the phone.  Don't really have to worry about the other IT guys here since NONE of them have an iPhone....
