I'm luke warm on the VW. Probably because I'm not a big 'vert person at all. However (Cred), I did see your car at Auto Assets Saturday when I was up there doing some work and I'm a big fan. Those IC pipes are pretty crazy. Andy

The only time It's ever triggered is at a DE between seessions after parking and when I didn't open the lid. It pushes hot air OUT of the bay, doesn't draw it in. Only triggers when the car is not running or sitting still with extremely high engine bay temps. I have unplugged it to make sure there's no associated electric issues that come up and all seemed fine.

Actually yes it is. Nelson has a 24 hour "real" race each year. You'll need to be SCCA licensed and have an appropriately classed car to compete though.

Forgive me as I don't even know the best way to title this thread. Here's what I'm looking to do. I have a K&N intake on the 996. I feel the design can be improved upon but I need assistance with ideas on how to do what I'm attempting to do. I've never really done any fabrication in the past and would like ideas on how. The K&N's main issue is it's horrible at actually sheilding heat. The cats sit directly below the unit and there's an engine compartment fan that sits directly above the unit keeping it from sealing to an alternate source of air...and allowing hot air to escape directly above the filter. I'm going to use reflective tape on the obvious areas to keep heat out the main issue I'm concerned with is how to get the intake to seal to the lid. What I'd like to do is remove that fan from the lid and find a way to modify the intake to seal to the engine lid (and the additional source of cold air behind under that fan) but I'm clueless what techniques and materials I should be using to "build" upon the existing air box. Any suggestions are welcome. Here's a picture of the setup on another car so you can see what I'm talking about above. http://www.myvividracing.com/main/kn996dyno1.jpg Andy

I seem to remember some of my Johnny Blue missing on your account too! And the Chivas Royal Salute

I understand the concern...BUT with a few simple rules in place most of those risks are minimized to the point where you should fear more running out of talent on your own than having anyone ever contact you. Even on open lapping days there are still generally 3 run groups to divide up the Talent / Speed. Beyond that passing should still only be allowed on the straights and even then not without a point. This way when you're on the brakes everyone should be in the same place on the track and not trying to divebomb for a pass. Usually passing is only done on one side which also cuts down on confusion. Generally there's also rules about offs to single out people that may be over their heads. First time you put 4 wheels off or spin you get a lecture...second time in a single day event you usually go home. It's suprisingly effective at keeping people under control.

Civics are pleanty capable. NASA runs an entire series (Honda Challenge) of Front Drive Honda's that are pretty quick. There was a local Honda Challenge car at one of my track days last year that was stupid quick.

Wait...you've got a V8 325 'vert?...and I missed this cool project how?
-
There's a Lapping day there in May organized by the S2000 club that was like $225 for the single day. But I have no clue how many cars they're planning on having. The track is VERY close to being done. The Pavement is down as you can see from the Youtube link above. Andy

You have good taste, I'll take mine Neat though. If I'm in the mood for mixed drinks I go straight for the Long Island. Not a huge fan of beer.

Not to be a party pooper here but most of you should expect this to cost >$200 unless we do a private rental and have like 75 people guaranteed to attend. Thats why Nelson was soo appealing to those of us who went last year at $120....and I think only 5 people showed up to that. Maybe I'll be suprised and someplace like Putnam or Bluegrass will be cheaper to rent then I imagine. I was lucky enough to go to a private rental of Mid Ohio a couple years back. I think we had 60 cars total that day. Entry was $400 for a single day but for the amount of track time we got and the lack of traffic it was priceless. I'm fairly sure the host lost money on the deal due to lack of attendance.

I"m in. Doing an event with MVP may be the best way to go unless we can organize enough people / interest to do a private rental of Nelson. What it boiled down to last year was it was cheaper to just go to a Nelson Funday on a Friday than it was to try to do a Private Rental. When I inquired last year, Nelson charged ~$5500.00 a day for a rental which includes staffing, insurance, on-site ambulance, etc. So I suppose if we could get 50 people to pre-pay that's doable...otherwise it's not really any cheaper than going for a Funday which people can back out of last minute if they want. I'd actually be more interrested in going to Putnam as somehow I havn't managed to ever do an event there! Andy

I was just giving you a hard time about the key chain. I know you guys respect and treat the cars you see with great integrity.
-
Tell Graham to call me for a detail to get rid of the key chain marks Hot cars. The Aston is a V8 Vantage not a Vanquish....not that it matters it still gives me tingles
-
I'm totally fine with that I suppose...still back to 2007 levels. It's the >$4.00 that really pissed me off last year.

We leave our dog out all the time now. It started when he figured out how to get out of his crate. We'd randomly come home some days and he'd meet us at the door when we swore we had locked him in his crate. At first it was just here and there but eventually it got to the point where he could get out of his crate in about 15 seconds. Since he never destroyed anything while he was out, he immediatly won our trust and we decided to not even bother using the crate anymore. The only thing he'll tear up is paper if we carelessly leave it laying around. Then again he's only 9lbs so his level of distruction compared to a bigger dog is minimal if he decides to go crazy one day. The only real impact is that there are constantly toys scattered around the house from him playing all day. Andy

Andrew: What suspension is on your car? Is it really soft? I think everyone blows the track surface at Nelson way out of proportion. With them re-paving the surfaces in the turns over the last 5 years or so it's really not bad at all. It's no Mid Ohio surface but it's definitely not pot hole types of changes in pavement. My 996 is nearly at Porsche Cup Car ride height. The front splitter clears speed bumps by about 1/4 inch and I sometimes scrape the brake ducts going over said bumps. Yet I've never experienced any bottoming issues at Nelson at all. Thankfully my wife has never come home with missing parts either since she drives it most of the time on the street. Same splitter is still in-tact 2 years later. However, I do have 900lb springs in the car which is why I ask how the suspension stacks up. Andy

Great car. Welcome. Andy

Dunno where it's at...but I could care less if it ever shows up. I like being able to drive my cars in the winter and enjoy them rather than looking at them in the garage.

You take away all the fun when you remove the 4th value that used to be there ...not that I was gonna post it.

01's and '02's are getting cheap...but that's $2-3K lower than most are going in Private Party sales, 4-5K lower than retail. Spend $200 on a PPI from Kelly or MAG and if they give a thumbs up bag it. Make sure in particular they check the rear sub frame. If abused the sub frames crack where the diff mounts to it. Could just be another victom of the poor economy. There's Deals out there from people who are desperate to unload stuff. Andy

This is horrible news. I only met Brian once when I did some work for him but we stood around and shot the shit for nearly an hour after the work was done as if we were life long friends. Great guy. R.I.P.

Approx. how much are you entry fees on average? This group looks very interresting. I was thinking of signing back up for Chin this year but this may be a better bet. Andy

It really needs to sit on there and get worked in pretty well to do it's job. The oil itself would almost be more of a mess running down the side of the car. PB will stay put unless it's really warm out and most people have it laying around the house vs. the oil.
