  1. INAL, but because you felt your life was threatened, who wouldn't be staring down a barrel, then you are justified in engaging and neutralizing the threat. You do not shoot to kill, you shoot to neutralize the threat and if he dies, then that's how it goes.
  2. If they weren't willing to shoot you, chance are good they wouldn't have a gun in the first place. It all depends in the circumstances. If i had a gun pulled directly in in front of me, say at about 3 feet, disarming him would probably be my best option. I probably cannot get my gun out, aim and fire before he can squeezes one off. At a greater distance, I may be able to duck and slide over while drawing, find cover and engage the threat. I may be the one who happens to witness someone getting a gun drawn on them, I know the exact circumstances not assuming the guy with the gun is the bad guy, and be able to engage the threat without him knowing. I don't carry just to protect my life, my daughter's life or my wife's life. I carry to protect those who cannot protect themselves as well.
  3. If someone pulls a gun on you, would you feel threatened for your life? At that point, looking down their barrel, do you know whether they will shoot you or not? Where would you say the odds are?
  4. I'll have to double check on the bag to see if I can find a tag. 200 degrees? Do you bake it when you do it?? And how much do you want to dye it for me?
  5. For one thing, you are not discerning between those with a valid permit, and those carrying illegally. Those of us with permits know the risks of violating the laws and the consequences are usually greater for one with a permit.
  6. Except when you win the lotto, you're winning some money. You're not gambling with your life.
  7. If you really want to read about real life encounters, browse this forum: http://www.ohioccwforums.org/viewforum.php?f=6 I've never needed mine, thankfully. But I have only been carrying for two years. I do have buddies that have needed it. My friend was pulling out of the parking lot and a guy ran up with smaller gun, like a .32. Tried to carjack him. My friend pulled his .357 magnum out of the center console and the carjacker high tailed it out of there.
  8. Yes they do have the right to not allow CCW in their establishment. This is the truth. If "no gun zones" worked, we wouldn't have had Columbine or Ft. Hood... When was the last time you needed a fire extinguisher? Do you keep one in your house? When was the last time you needed your seat belt? Do you wear one in your car? Also it's more the fact of the gun getting stolen from your car and then some criminal has a loaded firearm. Or the fact you stand a better chance of getting jumped walking from/to your car. The "no gun" sign doesn't mean no one has a gun. Tell that to Nikki Goesner who is a spokesperson for allow guns into alcohol establishements. She watched her husband get shot and killed by her stalker because she wasn't allowed to carry her CCW at the bar. She was working as a DJ and couldn't even carry it. People get shot and killed everywhere. No place is safe. Heck, there was a little old lady a while back shot and killed in the parking lot leaving Sunday church.
  9. I have a tan backpack I want to dye black, for tactical reasons of course. I don't know what kind of fabric it is but it's made by Camelbak. Has anyone here done this before? How do I do it? Any specific brand of dye preferable? I don't want some cheap crap that will come out. Yeah I know I could buy a black bag but I don't have the money to buy another one and then just have this as an extra. It looks like this:
  10. Too much is better than not enough. I always carried water purification tablets as well as a way to boil water. Yeah, probably overkill too....
  11. What do you carry water in? I'd recommend a camel back and some collapsible 2qt canteens. http://www00.mailcar.net/catalog/index.php?seller=uscamo&main_page=product_info&mode=s&schm=1&cLink=c&products_id=390300765928&psemtrk=google&utm_campaign=EcommerceStoreMarketing&utm_source=GoogleBase&utm_medium=GoogleBase&utm_term=GoogleBase Make sure you use things that can serve dual purposes instead of two separate items, if you haven't already done so.
  12. It starts getting real nasty at 160 degrees in full combat gear. Nothing like smelling your own stench coming up from your flak vest right into your face. Glad you had fun. I've been to the canyon but never hiked it. Sounds like it would have been a blast.
  13. Why'd it take so long to get it?
  14. Sorry to hear about her fellow troops. She's in my prayers, brother.
  15. btw, browse this thread. Were quite a few replies in it. http://www.ohioriders.net/showthread.php?t=64384&highlight=knives
  16. I have a CRKT M16. Bought it in Iraq in 2005. I had a buddy sharpen it about a year and a half ago. I didn't realize he got it razor sharp and since I use my knives hard it chipped the blade up. I actually just ground it down and resharpened it last night. It's heavy, well made and takes the abuse I dish out. Not an auto but I keep it lubricated with graphite and it will flick open very smoothly every time. I love it. That being said, I want this Benchmade auto:
  17. Knew about Bexley and Otterbein, they are on my list. Have to check out Nationwide and Grandview. Jolly Pirate FTW. This would be an armed position correct? What kind of salary?
  18. Good looking out. Thanks. Nah, I want to do more than just traffic stuff. Thanks. but Gotta go through their academy and I have a specific department I want to eventually get to.
  19. Just as the title says, looking for security or law enforcement openings. Just done with the police academy and taking the OPOTA test in a few weeks. Thanks all.
