DoD has a mantra that almost everybody knows about (Atleast in the USAF)...do more with less. It takes money and resources to train individuals to do their job. No matter how small the task seems to a civilian, the military is able to take that small task and turn it into a mountain. So instead of dedicating a uniform to that task, leadership has seen it fit to have those bodies fill more important roles. Which I agree is probably the right maneuver. This makes military contracting and acquisitions an even bigger part of the war effort. I wont go into military contracting/acquisitions, even though its my field, its extremely in depth and convoluted and confusing at times. I havent looked at the latest recruiting numbers but I think the Army and Marines are still busting their asses to try to fill recruiting goals...I may be wrong though. I know the USAF isnt struggling.

Its a new DoD out there...things DoD-wide are continuing to be contracted out. From IT to flight test to cooks to MX...things are being contracted out at a higher rate now a days in an attempt to save money. Personally, I dont agree with alot of it but its a reality everyone who puts on a uniform has to deal with.

Ferentz is not mediocre. Hes a solid coach. Just bc youre not playing the FBS NC every year does not mean you are mediocre or bad. He's been solid, consistent and perfect for the Iowa program. Most of Belichik's asst coachess are solid. I think eric mangini, jim schwartz, and josh mcdaniels are solid coaches. Mangini and Schwartz unforuntately are part of some pretty bad organizations where politics has negative influence on the team performance.

I understand where youre coming from. I do my own investing. I took out this exact loan 3 years ago. Spent 1/3 of it on frivolous things...travel and whatnot. Invested the rest and earned about 20% since then. 5% return in 4-5 years is VERY doable and modest. I have the frame of mind where youre money should always be making money for you...it shouldnt just be sitting there. The check scanning is awesome, but for some reason it cant read my checks. What are you doing with hardcopy checks?! I assume youre DoD, what happened to direct deposit?

Its not the same as the other loans through USAA. Though its not completely free, any investor with a little investment savvy can turn this easily into atleast a 5% return.

There are tons of good coaches out there right now...Brian Kelly, Gary Patterson, Butch Davis, etc. Im sure theyd want to lock in a coach first before firing Weiss publicly...which would probably mean after the bowls are done.

Thats why you get a new bike for about 7-8k and invest the rest in some high dividend large cap stock. Gotta have some type of toy after getting out of college and commissioned.

Its a horrible idea for the new LTs to turn it down. Its practically free money, thats why so many people use it to buy a new car. FYI to everyone not familiar with the USAA cadet loans. Those of us that just commissioned are allowed the opportunity to pick up a $20k-$30k loan with 2% fixed interest paid over 4 yrs. If youre not an idiot, youd take the loan since most savings accounts offer a higher interest rate.

Sounds like a cadet loan being used for a LT mobile. One of the worst investments you can make...but so many LTs do it. I spent mine on stocks and a few trips around Europe. RX-8s are nice...wish they had the turbo, but there are some dealer incentives right now for the 09 model. Check out edmunds.com for all the manufacturer incentives right now. USAA offers a car buying service online. If the manufacturer offers a USAA discount and youre able to combine it with current incentives than the deals can be killer. I plan on picking up my 09 SLK350 this week that I got for 16k off MSRP. RIght now is a really good op to pick up 09 models for cheap with all the dealer incentives. My buddy got a Mazdaspeed3 and LOVES it. Its a pretty cool little car.
