  1. I've had good luck with Acronis, except their support sucked the one time I needed them. So, don't pay for support. YRMV, but I doubt it. I still use it, though.

The Avamar solution me and my team implemented was around $700,000 - but that's for getting approximately 200 remote U.S. servers, 50-ish European and South America servers, and around 300 here in Columbus, backing that all up to disk, keeping 6 months' worth on tier 1 storage and another year on tier 2. Around 400 TB native, 12 TB deduplicated for point-in-time restores. Around 30% of the applications have a 2 hour RTO with 0% lost data. All of the Columbus servers are real-time replicated to a disaster recovery site located in another state. All of the remote servers backup to local disk, which is then carried over the WAN to Columbus. Most (90%) of the Columbus servers and 99% of the remote servers are virtual servers. The only servers I have running on bare metal are a couple that have fax cards in them, the 3 Exchange DAG servers, and a couple of others.

Our e-mail system is 3 way redundant - 2 here, 1 at the DR site, each hold about 1/3 of the users, but all 3 are sized so that they can take 100% of the users if need be. 107 TB just for e-mail. 3,330 users. Crazy.

Thanks for the info. Looks like something I'm going to have to look into.

  2. If you have a double breast-ectimy (scientific term) you can have new ones installed that will be bigger and no doubt better than your originals. Not the same for prostate cancer or colorectal. So please no more bullshit about breast cancer!

I never thought of the advantages of having cancer until now. (not that I have it) With testicular cancer, I could go into porn with some huge replacements.:popcorn:

I guess I need to drink more city water. Fluoride Myths

  3. what could possibly go wrong?

I met a motorcyclist from Manitoba (Canada) down at the Dragon this past October. (He rode an old yellow Ducati 748, which was basically his track bike, all the way from Manitoba! {over 1000 miles [one way]}) He said that his motorcycle insurance is outrageous because motorcycling is considered high-risk activity. So despite universal healthcare he has to pay more because he's a motorcyclist.

He explained that somehow the motorcycle insurance pays money for the additional healthcare.

Could other high-risk activities be a cause for additional taxes? It seems like a slippery slope to me.

  4. Been lucky so far. Douches come from the other end of the spectrum, as in the SQUID who was riding onto 270 West from Westerville on a Kawasaki crotch rocket-something helmetless, jacket and glove-less, wearing tennis shoes AND holding a cell phone with his left hand while rolling throttle onto the freeway. WTF.

I found that speaker phone doesn't work very good while riding, but I have yet to try texting.

  5. Cool Video. How'd you upload to Youtube using music without it being a copyright issue. One video I made with a Linkin Park song and the exhaust faded in the background they deleted my audio and I had to use a song from there library. Also how did you get those little pop up annotations in your video? That was pretty neat.

I use iMovie for all of my video editing. I made sure to not use the entire song and to start the audio later in the video. This way the song doesn't exactly match the electronic signature that they are looking for.

I use the youtube annotation editor for all of the annotations. If you log in to youtube, you will see your username in the upper right. Just hover over that and you will see Account, My Videos, Favorites, and Playlists drop down vertically. Click on My Videos, and then you will have an Annotations button to click in the area near the video.

Good luck and thanks for the compliments. I take video of almost every ride, so I will no doubt have a lot more videos this year. :)

  6. i think i'll always have a twin as a street bike, or an older 600 modified for a more upright ride. .

I agree with the twin part, but once the ccs get above 900, I become less particular. And the decrease in particularity is directly related to the amount of additional ccs. My low limit of particularity would be around 1349cc. :)
