  1. I've always bought cars for around a few grand or less. Fixed them and ran them for a while. My S10 killed that for me. I rebuilt the tranny and did all kinds of repairs. Needless to say last year I bought a Mazda 3 for 0% apr. Now I'm spoiled after driving something I dont have to cross my fingers every time I hit the key. As far as leasing goes I almost did it but held off due to I wasnt sure where I was gonna buy a house. In a year give or take I'll probably just lease. All the Pro's and Cons have been listed, and basically I take great care of shit and dont drive a ton.

  2. Plusses:

+More fun than should be legal on wheels

+torquey motor makes you feel like a hero

+unique bike that won't be mistaken for a cbrgsxrninjawhateverrocketboybike

+brakes on the later models are outstanding

+comfortable enough for 12 hour days on twisty roads

    +the sound is beautiful

+single-sided swingarm makes tire changes and cleaning so easy

+an easy 15 more horsepower on the later 200X models can be achieved with the right pipe and a tune. (get's you close to 130 at the wheel).

    +free tuning software is available.

    Minuses:

-hard to ride it legally. It begs you to use only the rear wheel

-motor is not up to current 1000cc sportbike standards in horsepower

-a total lack of wind protection beats the crap out of you at high speeds (it's naked, duh). Windshield options look stupid, in my opinion.

-the upright riding position that makes it so comfortable is a compromise for sport riding. It feels not-quite-right trying to ride it at a really fast pace.

-the non-R suspension leaves some to be desired. It's adjustable, but for some reason I've never gotten to work quite right yet.

-Odd type of single sided swingarm means you will sometimes run into trouble getting a tire put on and balanced.

    - doesn't fare very well in a crash. Be sure to get some protection.

-shifting is a little British feeling

-electrics are a little odd at times- does not like to start hot

Everything he said! I had an 05 and it was the best all around bike I've ever had, and I've had lots of bikes. Just be sure to pull the spark plugs out once a season and put anti seize on them. Also watch what oil you run in it. I put Royal Purple Max Cycle in it and the clutch started to slip (first bike ever this happened with). I had more looks and questions when I pulled up on that then anything else. And yes the new look is hideous...

  3. My dad recently added a 4th bike to the stable and has been bugging me to come ride it. So Monday I grab my gear and head to his house. He picked up an 08 Vulcan.

I pull out and start heading down the road. I get into downtown Kent and am sitting at a light. The lights about to change so I start getting ready to take off. I start putting my toe down and click through a lot gears... I dont think much of it and go to take off. The bike conks out... In a panic I hit the horn :D then the ignition and rev the hell outta her and start to go only to have the same thing happen again... I pull off the side of the road beyond embarassed :o and look down to see what the hell's going on. The bike has a hell and toe shifter. (I've rode lots of dirt bikes, sport bikes, and a few cruisers. The cruisers have all only had the toe shifter). I had shifted into top gear using my toe (on the heel part). Wow did I feel like a heel :nono: I shift it correctly and take off! The rest of the ride was a blast but damn I was too ashamed to even post it here for a few days.

  4. I k ow me too, but I wanted to get the bike out, hit the range, and a little trailer maintenance before vacation in a week. Oh well at least the plow and spreader are still on the arc although apparently I need to fix the tire.

I gotcha, hopefully it wont stick and will be very mild.

  5. Yep. My first real tour of that distance. It did get to me after a while. I'm not sure a Corbin would help all that much. But I may start looking for a stock seat and have a custom one made.

Yes it was awesome and yes it was quite a memory blast.

Yep, likely me. Kid just re-deployed from Afganastan 60 days ago.

Yes. It is. I'll never forget mine. But it's not something I expect civilians to understand. The entire point of Airborne is to take the fight to the enemy in a place and time they never expect. It takes a special kind of person (or crazy in some cases) to volenteer for the military, let alone Airborne, and also in her case Special Ops Command. Training can sometime be pretty damn tough. Little thing like blood wings is nothing when you think of the job that were sometimes called upon to do. It's tradition, a right of passage.

Col. Charlie Beckwith, founder of Delta Force, was once questioned about the violence and injuries that his soilders were aflicted with. His responce was kinda cool. "We're not making no god damn corn flakes here!"

Ah ok, that makes sense now.
