  1. Haven't gotten all the details yet, crash site still under investigation. I hope the club catches this asshole Honda driver before the cops do though. Rest in Peace Brothers & Sisters: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/nov/13/5-dead-6-hurt-in-socal-crash-with-several-cycles/
  2. I give up.............. Trying to talk to most of you is like trying to nail jello to a tree.
  3. Guys, you don't get it do you???? Ask any woman who is interested in learning how to ride (At least those of you guys who can get a woman to even talk to you without a large application of pepperspray to your face) Anyway, ask her what her understanding of what motorcycles really are. They'll tell you "They're dangerous-They're scary-They're loud Blah, blah, blah. To us guys,it's an extention of our bodys, minds and souls. It's a guy thing. We've been around mechanical things all of our lives, they haven't. They need to understand the basics and need to know their way around a bike. Most women crave to learn and most of them will jump in head over heels (No Pun) to learn. Have you ever been that excited to learn how to cook, knit, sew or do any other domestic chores or hobbies that women do? In general a motorcycle scares a woman like how a sewing machine works baffles most of you to no end. Difference is they are willing to learn how ride and/or work on their own bikes. I don't see any threads on here how you bunch of machos tore up the ol' Singer last night or bent your favorite #4 knitting needle two rows from finishing a project or broke your 3rd surger in the last month. How many of you got a 3 day crash course in drivers training and got your drivers license and your first car???? Didn't happen, Did it??? It takes practice and patience from both partys. It's all about skills. Is the MSF and BRC important??? YES it is!!!! Very much so. I think it should be required every 4 years. I'd take it,gladly. But you still need basic skills before you walk into a room full of strangers and spend the next 3 days with a frustrated insturctor who has the personality of a piece of burnt wheat toast trying to teach what?? 20-25 people how to ride who have no idea what the difference is between muffler bearings and muffler clamps?? Women need to understand whats being thrown at them. They think differently then us, but I still love 'em..... I have known many women who have gone in cold and failed misrably and was very discouraged and most quit after the 2nd try (And Failure). I love my wife and explained to her that when she took the test that she'd be ready. She was, in fact she was top in the class of 25, she even beat me. I had been riding for 10 years at that time. I'll admit it,bad habits. But what I tought her wasn't riding, it was what she was riding. I wouldn't let her take the test till she could tell me the name of every part of the bike I pointed at (in her own words), I explained to her that she didn't need to know what it did, just what it was. What it does can come later in time, and it did. She can now walk into a dealership for service by herself and knows shes not getting stroked by the service writer or mechanic.
  4. Not to thread Jack but.... SilverFox, We are Charter Members of that Chapter too. There wasn't enough Full members in C-bus at the time to Charter, So since we were Chapter officers, National allowed us to help out so they could get started. Her email is wowwlr1@yahoo.com and right now is serving as Asst. Chapt. Dir. for now. We need to get the chapters togather this year and RIDE!!!! Scott
  5. I taught my wife the basics then took all the riding courses with her (First one was at the Honda training center in Troy in the middle of August, 128 degrees on the blacktop for 2.5 days). Bought her a old POS to start with and get comfortable on. Taught her not to be scared of it but to respect it and let her know if she dumped it that I wasn't worried about the bike but only her safety. When she felt she was ready to move on I let her pick out the bike she wanted. (#GUY LESSON#: Most women don't care about how fast it goes, how tight it turns or none of that garbage. It's all about how "Pretty" it is. NEVER buy a bike for her that fits you or what you like, If it's going to be her bike, let her pick it out, even if that means taking her to 12 different dealers and her sitting and test riding 11 different versions of the same bike. If she's going to do this, let it be her choice. It could be the ugliest bike ever built, but if she keeps talking about it or going back to it just give her all the information and details you can and LET HER DECIDE.) Personel experience speaking here. Wifes first new bike was a 1988 Suzuki Savage 650cc single we bought new for her in the spring of 89. She only stands 5' tall so we had to get her something with a 26 inch seat height. She kept that until 92-93 and put 13K miles on it, I paid 2K for it at F&S and sold it for 1500.00 when we picked up her new 92 Yamaha Virago 750 from Joyce & Jeff Hinds in Columbus, she was ready to move up to something larger CC wise and she rode the shit out of that bike. It had 33K trouble free miles on it that were all her miles except maybe 100-150 were mine 'cause when I'd take it out and play with it or run somewhere and hers was parked in the back of the pack. That bike was solid & bulletproof. When we sold it and moved her on to a new 05 Vstar 1100 Classic that is dressed as a Silverado only because she couldn't get a Silverado in the color she wanted. We've done a few other modifications on it to suit her needs but she loves this bike. Yes. I paid more for that, I know. Just because it was "Pretty", and I know when she tells me "I'm going for a ride" and I can't get away to go with her I know she has the skills, talent and training to take care of herself and the bike will take care of her too and not leave her stranded somewhere. Now she gets a TON of compliments on it because you don't see another one like it, She has had other Star riders asking her questions like if it was special ordered or who built it, She just looks at them, smiles and tells them "I built it". I even bought her a Tshirt she wears all the time that says: " YES,Its mine & NO,you can't ride it." She's also been very active in a Womens Motorcycle club called "Women On Wheels"INC. www.womenonwheels.org for the past 20 years, she even chartered a chapter here in Dayton that is still quite active and meets monthly in Beavercreek and they ride quite a bit together along with doing social and community things as a club. To them it's not WHAT you ride, it's THAT you ride.(As it should be everywhere) They don't do Bars or have anything to do with drugs or alchohol, it is forbidden in the National Charter and strictly enforced at every Chapter level Lee, It looks like you live close to us, let me know and I'll send you meeting info if you both would like to come check out the group. Or we'll help where we can on getting her on her way to 2 wheeled freedom. There are Chapters in most of the large cities here in Ohio so if anybody else needs info, PM me. BTW Guys: These women do not use this as a dating club and NO they don't want to hook up with you, date you, have your babies or listen to your none of your old, outdated BS pickup lines, most of them can beat you down both verbally and physically. Then the "Sisterhood" thing kicks in and then you're really in trouble. So you can stop typing your smartassed commits about women riders now and thank me for saving you from a LOT of future embaressment on your behalf in front of your friends.
  6. Just ask her to explain which is heavier, a ton of bricks or a ton of feathers.
  7. I would have loved to heard this phone call.......... rifle was missing for 7 hours before he noticed it. Police looking for officer’s missing rifle By Lucas Sullivan | Monday, February 15, 2010, 11:08 AM DAYTON - Dayton police are looking for an officer-issued rifle missing that might have fallen off the roof of an officer’s car Sunday, Feb. 14, police said. Officers were called to the 2700 block of Wayne Avenue about 11:20 p.m. Sunday to investigate the missing rifle after the officer coming on duty at 4 p.m. noticed it was missing, the report stated. The officer missing the gun was not named in the report and Major Mark Hess declined to release his name this morning. “The officer recalled placing it on the roof of his cruiser as he inspected and prepared his cruiser/equipment for his tour of duty,” Hess said. “We are looking into whether he drove off with it still on the roof or if it was taken from atop the roof.” If any wrongdoing is found, the officer will be disciplined, Hess said. The gun is described as a Rock Rivers A15 .223 caliber rifle, the report stated. It is valued at about $800, Hess said. The gun’s serial number has been entered into a nationwide crime database, Hess said. If anyone knows the gun’s whereabouts, you are urged to call 333-COPS.
  8. They are planning on putting 2 stops in Dayton, 1 is pretty much right in my front yard. It's going to be right across the street from the Air Force Musuem in Riverside on Springfield st., They were talking something like 6 stops a day there. Well, there goes the neighborhood. As if Dayton isn't turning into Detroit fast enough already. Heres Da' Gubment thinking for you, lets build a high speed train line and use 50+ year old tracks and operating systems to make it go. This is nothing more then a land based Titanic in the making.
  9. Yea Baby!!!!!!!!!!! It's in the box and on it's way to me. Wife saw the email and asked " What'd you buy???", I told her about it and she asked "What do you need that for?", only thing I could think of is " Cause I don't have one yet!!!!" Next comes the Defender synth stock and God help whatevers been shitting in my back yard. BAM, BAM, BAM is all it's going to hear.
  10. I was kinda figured it had been on here, I hadn't seen it before. Mods please feel free to kill this post as needed. I'll see if I can lower my standards to fit your needs.
