So I've been told.
-
See the last sentence in my post above yours.
-
Getting a bike set up to run and handle it's best is part of the fun for me. The SV just isn't a bike that turns my screws. Last year a looked into supermoto's but that's just not my style.
-
I think you're gonna have to keep repeating that.
EVERYONE: BACK OFF
LOL. No worries brother. Feedback on other options is always welcome if not just for the fact of learning something. Knowledge helps us make educated decisions, yes?
-
Not sure if I am comfortable with the idea of putting more in upgrade parts than what the bike costs. I like the idea of the Blast just not the execution.
-
The 3 things that bugged me about the Blast I rode.....the 5 speed trans, the low redline and the pegs.
I did like the torque, the exhaust note and the handling.
-
Holy crap, the rear seat are almost as much as the 515cc stage one kit from NHRS. Banke doesn't even list a price.
But, I learned something today. Thank you for the links!
-
Pegs are too low for good cornering. I have ridden one. I have yet to find pre-made rear sets.
-
I have ridden a nicely modded SVsixfity. Just not in love with the bikes. Can't give you a specific reason. I do like the exhaust note, though. I want something real simple to maintain as well. I really have it narrowed down to a GS500E or Ninja 500R at this point.
-
I am looking for as standard a seating position as possible due to an entrapped nerve in my right elbow-no more than about 20* lean angle. I am hardly ever on the freeway except riding down to 10/22 in NKY or other destinations-maybe 5% total.
Top speed/corner to corner speed is not as important as cornering ability is. Low maintenance and durability is also important.
I have set a $4k upper limit as this will give me funds left over out of my yearly profit sharing check to tweek the suspension, get sticky tires, exhaust and re-jet the carb/carbs after the initial bike purchase.

Suzuki GSX650-F
This is the Katana re-do, correct?
-
What about a Ninja 650R??
These look like a viable option but a little out my set price range.
I know a few riders that have owned these. A capable carver and a unique ride with a cult following. They definitely are holding their value.....the ones you can actually find. Very intrigued by this bike.

Truly.........

Anyone have experience with the Honda Hawk GT (NT650). I have this thing for obscure, interesting bikes.
-
I really can't go any more than about 15 degrees over on top and ride for any length of time. That is one of the reasons the GS500 is pulling ahead at this point. It has more of a standard seating position. The engine is simple and has proven to be bulletproof, the chassis is stiff, has good brakes and handles well.
-
Some nice feedback, info and opinions being posted up here. Thanks fellers.

I would think GS500's would have good real world street speed. Not looking to set the streets on fire any more. I like carving corners more than going fast in the straights.
-
Wow, the Ninja's are that slow? Makes me lean towards the GS500 even more.
-
Yeah, my entrapped nerve would last about 2 seconds on that torture device.
-
Ahhhh, hell no.
For one, I am needing an upright seating position. Two, looking for a low maintenance, reliable steed I can just ride and enjoy.

This won't be till after Xmas. I like to buy used bikes after the New Year and before folks that have taxes due have to pay 'em.
-
I've never considered carbs simpler than fi
I like tweaking carbs. Cheaper and easier for me.
I would probably go with the Kawi due to the huge aftermarket for them, unless you are a bigger guy...then I would probably do the GS500F.I am 5'8" and 185lbs. or so in gear.
-
I do realize this as I ride with someone that has a 650. It is way more flick-able than the 1K was. I just want to keep this next bike super simple.....air cooled, carbs, etc. but something with a good chassis.
Back road corner carver project-Ninja 250R or 'zuki GS500F?
