WOW!! This seems to be a hit!! I guess it shows that no matter how big, bad, and ugly your are you're still a sucker for ice cream. Ya just need to unlock your inner kid - LOL. I've been to Tommies in Z-ville but not on my bike. That is the ultimate "Old Skool" ice cream shop. It's like you just stepped out of (or into) the 40's. Knight's IS da bomb!!! For those that have never been, go there and get a Knight Stick. It's basically a nutty buddy but homemade. It's a small little joint located at Cleveland Ave & Schrock Rd, just north of I-270 & Cleveland Ave by St Ann's Hospital. Keep your eyes peeled though as it's tucked in a little tiny house behind CVS. Thanks for the tips guys - keep em comin!!

When the Mrs. and I take our rides our stopping points/destinations are ice cream stands. We don't drink while on the bikes so that's what we've decided to do instead. We try to find a new one each time but we have our favs. We like to stay NE Central Oh area - Johnstown, Utica, Mt Vernon, Sunbury, Alum Creek. We live in Westerville so we primarily stay east of 71, north of 161 so anything in those general directions is fair game. However, if it's within 2hrs of home and accessible by back roads we're there. She's a newbie rider and not ready for the highways yet, but I wouldn't ride her GS450 on the highway anyway, let alone expect her to do it, so back raods it's got to be (they're more fun anyway). We prefer the small town mom & pop places that have been around since dirt was new, but DQ, Friendly's, and Greaters aren't out of the question. Our current list of places includes - Whit's in Sunbury & Johnstown, Kent's in Mt Vernon, Velvet in Utica, Creme Corner & Hershey's in Sunbury, Sticky Fingers in Galena (Alum Creek & Cheshire). We need some new destinations. Can anyone help us out? Where have you been and what's their signature scoop if they have one? Anything near Loudenville perhaps?

Good idea Mello!! She's been wanting to go to Hocking Hills, get a chalet with a hot tub, do the nasty thaaaang, you get the idea. I know there is a website that list bike friendly cabins and rates the grades leading to the unit so you know whether you can get your bike to the door or not. She likes the slower more layed back rides. She's got an 82 GS450L and I have an 06 Kaw Concours ZG1000 so we're not really twistie kinda of people anyway; in other words WE'RE OLD F@&KERS!! I'm with you on Bambi & Yogi. I don't need a rack in the face - unless it's hers of course!! LOL

Ok here it is I had too many attachments already. See my previous post on page 138 for the description.

Here she is in all her Pink glory. A 1982 Suzuki GS450L. This is the bike I bought my wife to learn to ride on. I paid $700 for it and it was sizzle can painted Maroon, rusted out pipes, covered with mud, cobwebs, and oil. The PO had attempted to strip the side covers to polish them. He stripped them ok but the polish? Not so much. Over the winter I bought NOS covers on eBay, new petcock, windshield, sissybar & rack, and front tire. Earlier this spring we were in Iron Pony and she saw this metalic pink pearl HJC helmet and loved it. She bought it and I took it into Ohio Auto Kolor and had some PPG paint color matched to the helmet. I contacted the company that makes Color Shock decals and had them custom make some Breast Cancer decals for me. I found a better tank on eBay for $30. I took it to StreetWerks and had it media blasted to bare steel. The graphic artitst at my office spray it for me. The weekend she took her MSF class I spenthe days cleaning 28 years of dirt and grime off the bike and reassembling it for her. I kept it covered while she was home so she had no idea what I was doing. When she got home Sunday night and told me she passed, I unvelied the bike for her. She loved it!! Yeah, it's pink, but it looks 90% brand new, showroom clean, and runs like a top. Let's just say that night was "berry berry go to me"!! So, here she is in all her Pink glory and no, it's not secretly mine. I own the GS850 in my signature and an 06 ZG1000 Concours. Well, I don't know what's going on but it won't upload the pics. It says it did but obviuosly not. Once I can figure this out I'll post em again. Sorry!!

Well we're not looking for massive twisties, just a nice slow ride through the mountains. Like I said she's a newbie so she can't handle that stuff anyway. I'd love to do BR Pkwy, but that's a little further than we want to travel for the timeframe we have, plus I think it might be a little much for her right now. I've watched the vids on Youtube and it looks like a nice enjoyable ride. I haven't been there since I was a six year old kid, but I love the mountains and can't wait to go back. I'm originally from upstate NY (Rochester) and spent most of my summers camping in the mountains from New Hampshire to North Carolina. Look on the map. If you can find some type of historical marker, slave owner's home, somebody's log cabin, chances are I've been there. I just wish I remembered them all. I would take a week in the mountains over two weeks on the beach. Now, I'm 48, empty nester and the Mrs. and I are looking for places to go!! This ride is on my bucket list and will be first to be crossed off.

This is the kind of info I'm looking for - the stuff you don't find online or in the books. I considered the gas situation. I have a ZG1000 Concours with a 7.5 gal tank so I'm good on fuel, but hers has a 3.5 gal tank so there is some concern. She should get just about 120 miles but one never knows and I'm not going to push it. I'd be a dead man if she ran out up there. One thought I had was to carry a one gallon can in my saddle bag as a backup so if she does get low she'll have enough to bail out and get more along the way. I will scout for gas stations along the way before I go. Mapquest can do that for you. I knew it was a National Park and I knew about the fee. It's $10/per and is good for seven days. Didn't know about the speed thing. I guess I figured 1) too steep and twisty to go fast (in a car anyway), and 2) where would they run radar from up there? Thanks guys and keep em coming!!

So who has ridden Skyline Drive in Virginia? I taught wifey to ride and bought her a starter bike - 82 Suz GS450L. I think I created a monster when I taught her to ride - she loves it!! I'm tossing around the idea riding the Skyline in October. Since she's still a newbie I thought the Skyline would be good for her. It's 105 miles and 35 mph - perfect for a beginner. She'd never make the 500 miles from Columbus to Front Royal so I thought we'd trailer the bikes to Front Royal and stay the night at a motel. The next day we'd ride to the end in Waynesboro and stay the night. We'll ride back to Front Royal and spend another night. Head back to Columbus the next day. Share you thoughts, experiences, tips and tricks. I'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance. PS - I really don't mean to sound like a dickwad, but right now I'm only interested in Skyline Drive. I know there are better, cooler roads, but I'm not going there this year. So, if your story is about another road, hold it til next time or start another thread. Sorry and thanks for understanding. Jim

I'm originally from Rochester NY. I've been in Columbus since 1999. I had a CCW permit when I lived in NY but I never renewed it here although I still have my gun(s). Up there we were never allowed to carry in a bar and I didn't need to. Sure I've been in my fair share of bar brawls. I've been in places loaded with mobsters (I'm Dutch BTW so I won't claim to be a mobster). Never once have I needed my weapon. So, that being said, do I think we "Need" to carry in a bar? No, we don't "Need" to. Should I be allowed to should I choose to? Yes. Most CCW people I know would really hesitate to pull it, yes, even my mobster friends. Why? Because it brings too much heat, too much attention, and nothing good comes from it. now, would I pull it if I had to? You betcha. Would I shoot someone? Yes, but it all depends, and not for status. Most people that pull them like they pull their dick wouldn't shoot you anyway. Like the mobsters, it's not the loud mouths you need to be careful of, it's the quiet ones. I'm pretty quiet.

Man up!! You're funny. Brother, I'm all about bustin my knuckles but man these suckers won't budge. I'll try the oil. thanks Bro!

I'll swing by. I'm only two miles away so why wouldn't I? I don't think there is a ride this year. I haven't seen anything posted. I know IP took a bath on T-shirts and doughnuts last year, but that was a good ride. Police escort, stopped traffic, people waving, clapping, cheering, saluting. Good times!!

Once again this weekend the Field of Heros will be on display in Westerville at the intersection fo Cleveland Ave & County Line Rd. Take a ride by and pay honor to those who have fallen so that we may stand. Support the cause and buy a flag. Dedicate it to someone special, and just any Veteran from any conflict. Take on home a fly it proudly! http://www.fieldofheroes.org/

You know something Chevy? Sadly enough there are some people that just don't get it. Stand along any parade route, you can tell the ones that do from the ones that are there for the candy that won't be thrown. Unlike like those in that vid I didn't fight for anyone, but I did serve for nine years, and yes I'd pull the trigger in a heartbeat. Hoo Rah my brother, Hoo Rah!!

So what's the trick to getting those pesky little exhaust gaskets out of the head? I'm wrenching on an 82 Suzuki GS450L, putting on new(er) pipes. As you can imagine those gaskets have been encrusted in carbon for almost 30 years. I've tried yanking them out with a hooked pick like thing (it worked on my other bikes) but these are stuck pretty good and all I'm doing is chewing them up. Is there a spray of some type I can shoot in there and soak them for a while to dissolve all that crud? PB Blaster? Carb Cleaner?

Rain sucks! Wind sucks! Know what sucks worse than wind and rain? HAIL!! I got caught in a hail storm a few weeks ago. Saw it coming right towards me. Had no place to hide so I had to tough it out. Freakin hail hurts!! I was getting pelted in the face, in the hands, everywhere. And, it's LOUD on a helmet. To add insult to injury I was less than a mile from home.
