When: Saturday July 31st. Leaving promptly at 11am
Where: Meet at Speedway....2619 Cleveland Avenue Southwest...Canton, OH 44707
2hrs - 86 miles
Count me in. Looking forward to meeting you guys. I'll be on the 50th R1...bald headed asian guy.
-
weekends are better for me. if you guys ride on Sat or Sun, I'd like to join and meet you guys.
-
Would love to join you guys for a ride if you guys don't mind.
Weekends are always better for me than evenings. Wife is home all day with the kids so she's usually ready to dump them on me as soon I walk in the door.
I'm still in the process of moving but will be bringing my bike down to Ohio this weekend.

Emergency bike braking is never any fun. But you have to practice it once in a while so you know how your ride reacts.
This is the best advice out here IMO. every situation is different and every solution is varied. I think I'm a safe rider, but I'll there are times I haven't left a safe distance. I think we've all done that.
However, practicing emergency braking is the key to knowing the point at which your brakes start to lock up. Every spring that is one of the first drills I do to remind myself and shake out the cobwebs. Also at least once a month I practice again.
Find an out of the way parking lot and get up to about 25mph and brake both front and back with a progressively stronger pull. Keep it straight incase you do lock up. If you do lock up, just ride it out and maintain brake pressure. Now you know where the lock up point is. Do it again at 35mph and then 45 mph. If you have a buddy we usually stand to the side and then raise an arm to indicate when to emergency brake. Doing it on your own tends to have you anticipate the emergency braking start.
The more you practice, the more your muscles will remember and react in the same way when you need it. This is saved me on NUMEROUS occasions.
Also remember the 12 second scan ahead rule.
The good news is you'll remember your gear next time. Not sure about you, but I'd rather sweat than ruin this perfectly good looking Adnois-like body. I'm just too damn pretty.

Welcome. would love to see your bikes.

Welcome to the party.

This thread is a bigger letdown than the petting zoo.

pretty accurate here, the 06 had bearing issues that were resolved in 07. 08 i think is the best year by far because in 09+ they were stiffed with emissions which caused yamaha to cut back on power with the ecu, of course a reflash at jett-tuning in cali would solve that problem. but out of the box, i would have to vote for 08.
Spot on with this comment. 08 is the best.
For your choices listed, it depends on what your riding style is.
For track, I'd lean toward R6. Best Track bike on your list, and plenty of upgrades available.
The Duck is sweet. Underpowered? maybe, but on the corners, you'd be fine.
Not much into the other bikes. But again it depends on what your purpose is.

that's a great year for the R1's. Carbs instead of FI. A LOT more low end grunt. I'd love one for a track bike.
Personally I think you traded up, but I'm biased with the Yami's
As mentioned, at least you're riding.

working on getting a redo on the canton ride as we speak
aww man! Not sure I can get my bike from Michigan and back in time. May have to wait for the next one.
-
I'm still in the process of finding a permanent home in this area but would love to join you guys if you get this planned out. Just got to get my which is in MI right now.
Putting an offer on a house in North Canton today so hopefully I'll be me active.
Been jonesing for some twisties...

cash only for luxury items. unless this was my ONLY mode of transportation. MY BELIEF is that if you can't afford to pay it outright (including all the gear) then you should wait for non-essential items.
I've seen people who get the $99 a month deal on new and then get jacked on the interest.
-
Welcome!
I'm new too and just got relocated to Tallmadge for work. The family is still house hunting, but we'll end up being in this area.
Looking forward to finding some riding partners as well.
Thanks for protecting our freedom and welcome home!

I did the same thing from Cali. Bought the trailer in Cali, same deal with the plates. Just keep your trailer registration with you in the truck and you'll be fine.
Great. Thanks man.
-
hmmmm...
I guess I won't register the trailer in MI then. I'll have temporary housing in Ohio from my relo so I wouldnt be able to register it for a couple of months until I find and close on a house.
So that means I'll be unregistered while using the trailer to move from MI to OH. Will I get fined from an LEO or should I be ok as long as I have a proof of purchase on me?
-
OK, I'll be moving to Ohio soon from Michigan. I don't own a trailer, but am planning to get an enclosed one this week.
In Michigan, there is a one time registeration fee which gets you a permanent license plate with no expiration. Should I wait and register it in Ohio? Or will a permanent plate from out of state be a problem. Just thinking if I get pulled over and I have MI plates on trailer with (eventually) Ohio plates on my truck I'd get questioned.
If it's not a problem then I'm inclined to just register and plate in MI and then I don't ever have to worry about it again and have to pay money again.
thoughts?

well, I haven't moved yet, but I'll be in the NE soon.
Here is LMS (Little Miss Sunshine). I used to call her the Yellow Banshee but then I laid her down twice. So I thought a name change was in order. Call it superstition, but she's taken care of me well and gotten me out of some sticky situations instead of trying to buck me.
THis pic is before some of my recent mods but is a clean one.

BlackBetty;
My first bike was a 2000 YZF600R as well. I miss that 'ole girl...
Zixxer, I'm gonna check Stow for sure. thx.

good info gang! Appreciate the responses and suggested areas. I'll make to check them all out. I have a friend who used to live and Brimfield and my Father-in-law works in Medina. So those are top of the list now as well.
Thanks for the warm welcome from all. I will definitely look you guys up for the next ride once we get settled in.
Also will check out Nelson Ledges.

not sure how many miles you have, but 5 year old plugs (assuming the original ones) definitely should be replaced. At least pulled, regapped, cleaned. Most of the time they are a PITA to get to so it's just easier to replace while you're in there.
-
Thanks for the welcome all.
Not too sure about the schools and areas around you in tallmadge, but there are good schools down here. If you want a lil commute check out North Canton or Jackson Twp. Very good schools and great communities.
My current commute is an hour, so anything less than that is a win for me. I'll check out North Canton.

Well, been lurking for a few days so thought I'd introduce myself.
I currently live in Canton, MICHIGAN, but My company is transferring me to Tallmadge, OH...which funny enough is near Canton, OHIO. Ill be moving in the next couple of weeks and we'll begin the house hunting soon so know idea yet where we are going to live. THe wife and I are looking for family friendly area with top-notch school system. So i'll take any advice on where.
I ride an '06 R1 50th Anniversary. I've been riding for 5-6 years. i love the twisty-spirited rides. I am a recent track addict but can't afford more than 2-3 track days a year [read: wife owns the purse].
I've got a close group of friends I'm leaving behind; which we all met because of our love of sport riding. Anyways, looking to meet some new people who can show me all the secret roads.
I like to pretend I am mechanically inclined, but I usually cry uncle eventually. So with that in mind hoping to find some good advice on here for general mechanical stuff.
Anyways, that's all I got. if you want to learn more you gotta buy me a drink.

That is actually good to know for someone like me who doesn't know the area.
I can do 10 as well if that is what we are changing to.
