  1. Hey knee drgr last time I checked the m&p does not have a grip safety. Did you mean the xd?

Edit by the way you have some nice 1911's.

The M&P doesn't have a grip safety, however, there are model variations with ambi thumb safety option. I have an M&P9 that doesn't have a thumb safety option. But if you go onto their website, you can see which models of the M&P does have them. The grip safety on the XD is similar to the 1911, but the thumb safety is the key safety that 1911 users are used to, because it's a safety that one have to manually turn on/off, therefore, S&W put that option there so the 1911 users are familiar when using their M&P. But if you don't like it, you can always take off the thumb safety on the M&P. Wish I had gotten that model.

    Here's my M&P9:

Thanks. I really like how simple the 1911's are. Heck, it's a proven design that has been around for 100 years, and has been thru numerous wars. Let just say that JMB was a GENIUS!!!

  2. On my list too. Once I buy one, I plan to eventually build my own, down the road.

First 1911 build for me. But already have plan for a second build, down the road. Maybe next year's tax return... :D

  3. Very nice one of my bucket list guns. Had one sold it now wish I never had...

Thanks. That's what a lot of 1911 owners (or prior owners) have said about their 1911's. That is if you know to stay away from certain manufactures.

  4. looking good man! i know nothing about the parts you listed, but ive always loved 1911s...cant wait to see the finished product

    Thanks!

Rest of the parts were ordered. Should have it by end of the week.

  5. So in honor of JMB's ingenuity, and the adoption of the 1911 on March 29th, I celebrated with this kit; a Remsport railed government with slab slide.

    It might not be a purist's love of the M1911A1, but it's still a 1911. At least it's not a 2011 :tongueout:.

    Specs from Remsport:

•*Stainless steel rail government fitted frame and slide.

    • Fitted stainless steel match barrel and bushing.

    • 15 lpi FS checkering.

    • Serrated top of slide.

    • Novak cut front and rear sights.

    • Bare magwell for a custom bevel.

Here's a partial list of some of the parts that will be going on there.

    • EGW monogram barrel bushing and plug.

    • EGW oversize beavertail.

    • EGW recoil spring guide.

    • EGW oversize firing pin stop.

    • 10-8 gen 2 slide stop.

    • 10-8 flat trigger.

    • 10-8 solid rear sight.

    • 10-8 brass bead front sight. (Maybe Tritium, still up in the air)

    • Wilson rebuild pin set

    Initial impression:

The slide and frame is SILKY SMOOTH. It's almost like they are on bearings. No play whatsoever.

The 15 lpi doesn't feel that bad on the hand. They are pointy, but then I haven't shot it yet. Might have to flatten them out a bit.

The lock up on the barrel lugs are nicely fitted, and brakes out of battery smoothly. Could use a hair bit more meat on the top lugs. We'll see how she will actually do at the range.

The trigger tracks are smooth. No play vertical nor horizontal play on the trigger.

    Now onto the porn:

  6. I've never carried a 1911 but I wouldn't choose a sidearm based on what is "American". You need to carry something you are comfortable with and you can shoot well. There are a wide range of firearms that people carry on here. XD, Glock, M&P, LCP, Bodyguard etc etc. Most were chosen due to reliability, how they fit the hand, how well they shoot with it, ease of carrying (could be concealability) etc etc.

So you've never carried a 1911, and you're only relating things you've read in the interweb? :wtf:

the 1911 has one of the best grip angle. Oh, BTW, the S&W M&P pistol was model after the 1911 for these elements: grip angle, beavertail, and thumb safety option.

A 1911 can be carry easily with a quality gun belt and holster.

Let must say that I conceal my 1911 way better than my old Glock 26. YMMV.

the Adjustable Target Night Sights are a pretty neat feature. Im thinking about putting a bone grib on there as well, or a good wilson combat

    Congrats on the new purchase.

If you're going to carry that thing, I might suggest switching out the adjustable rear sight for a John Harrison fixed rear sight. This will help with with the possible snagging issue.

Make sure you find out any issues within the first year, as Kimbers are only 1 year warranty.

And get some decent mags; Wilson Combat or Chip McCormick.

  8. My advice is don't. Of course that is based on my first and only handgun that happens to be a 1911. After almost 1000rds of "break-in", lots of tinkering and frustration, I finally completed a 90rd course of fire this evening without a malfunction. That's the first successful range trip since the first 50rds. I feel like I got a lemon but a search of the internet shows it to be a common story these days, with manufacturers across the board apparently pushing the limits of their tolerance capability and parts quality.

I wouldn't count on something like this for defense. Get some tactical tupperware that will go bang every time you pull the trigger. In my opinion (again, based on my rather limited experience), 1911s are for people who like to tinker.

    Para Ordnance. :nono:

    Key words are highlighted above...

Canada is good hockey and maple syrup.

  9. Great Britain Population: 60 million

    United States Population: 300 million

    British Superbike:

30+ superbikes on the grid, six manufacturers

    12 rounds

    A few former MotoGP riders

    AMA Superbike:

20+ superbikes on the grid, four manufacturers

    9 rounds

Nobody who's raced at the World Championship level except Ben Bostrom and Roger Lee Hayden, who had one year on the slowest bike in WSBK

Something ain't right with the state of roadracing in this country...

The majority of the US population thinks that 2 wheels are only used for recreation. While in Europe, it's also a form of daily transportation. People ride in the wet there all the time. While compare to Americans that get into their "cage" and drive everywhere.

That's why NASCAR (aka Stock Car) is the most popular cause they "look like normal daily drivers."

But then again, something needs to be said about the promoters of these events.

  10. the stator "fix" from harley doesn't work. People have either swapped to the 08 stators or to mosfet rectifiers.

Since it is a rotax powered motor look at the aprillia sites they are dealing with the same issues

I am not sure how "great" that deal is, I got my 08 new during the fire sale for $5400 out the door (tax, plate fees, blah blah) so use that as a reference

Pretty good deal for a new bike. But damn, all of the problems and recalls will make the owner think otherwise.

Sat on them at the bikeshow and wasn't completely impress. All I can say is the Eric does have passion for his craft.

  11. I work at 7100 right there. I almost wish I still had a street bike. we could piss off the brecksville park rangers during lunch together.

Sweet! LOL. I've been thru that section of the park with my car. And let just say AWD drifting is pretty sweet. But damn, the exhaust can give away my position.

My CEO loves my bike and car. He's another gearhead too. :D

  12. Since the washers are not under load there is no need to have splines on them. I had to use them on my klr to space the sprocket out. If the OD is to large grind them down. Only reason Play isn't a okay is that a loose chain could twist the sprocket and bind in the empty space resulting in a total lock up of the rear drive.

I'm surprised no one has come out with a bushing that can be stuck to the inside of a sprocket. Again since it's just a spacer it doesn't have to be attached too securely, just enough to keep it centered during installation.

+1. My 520 conversion came with a washer to help w/ the sprocket alignment. It's important to get a straight path from the front to the rear sprocket. Slipping a chain on a moto isn't as forgiving as on a bicycle.

  13. Honestly, now it's just my daily driver. I was heavily into cars, but once I got into bikes and guns, the car budget got diverted.

But I do know those Forced 4 guys, and have been up to a few of the meets.

    Plus there aren't many silver WRX – I mean 2.5RS ;-) – rocking gold BBS's around here.
