No, it’s not a rubber helmet – it’s just that the helmet has an interesting finish to it! A rubber feel on the paint, to be more precise. If having any shade of color is offensive to your street gear loadout, then the Rubatone is your lid!

This helmet features a massive flip-up faceshield in front of a standard chinbar design. The faceshield itself has vents in front of the mount, and user-adjustable intakes are fitted just above the forehead. These all, of course, are complimented by a series of exhaust vents carefully placed on the back of the helmet to keep you cool on hot summer days.

CE-certified protection for your feet in a comfortable boot, from the last all the way the way up to the collar? “Yessir!” say the Alpinestars SMX-6 v2 boots. The v2 denotes that these are a second generation variant of the popular SMX-6 boots. Improvements were made all around, too. Starting with a new rubber sold that’s grippy in the wet, but doesn’t come apart when facing grippy footpegs. The surefootedness gained here makes riding in any weather conditions a non-issue, rain or shine, you’ll feel the pegs and your boots won’t slip off. A unique take on the half-helmet, Scorpion’s Covert helmet is an interesting design that can be configured in three different ways to meet your riding needs. This patented design can be used as a ¾ helmet, a half-helmet, or a pseudo full-face lid by using all of the included components that come in one single box.

Starting with a polycarbonate shell that’s DOT-approved, the helmet is fitted with a drop-down visor that’s interchangeable between clear and smoke lenses, both of which are included in the box. All you have to do is reach up with either hand and pull on a tab to deploy the visor in less than a second. You have the ability to head out ready for whatever light you encounter. If things get a little cold, you can add the included lower helmet portion to go for a three-quarter lid, of if that’s not enough, add the included chinbar for a unique look that’ll keep the wind off your face. A premium full-face motorcycle helmet, Shoei’s RF-1200 combines a myriad of features specifically aimed at the road-going and trackday rider. It’s lighter, more compact (to the eye at least), better ventilated and yet, more protective than all other RF series helmets to come before. Its evolutionary design is worth your attention, especially if your current helmet is a little long in the tooth.

Ventilation is addressed with a wind-tunnel shell; four intakes and four exhaust vents draw air through the helmet and straight to the scalp. Enhancing exhaust flow is an integrated wing on the back of the helmet that creates a low-pressure area right behind the helmet, but in a way that doesn’t cause buffeting or whistling. The result is a passively enhanced cooling action that you’ll be happy with on hot days.

The RF-1200’s shell uses Shoei’s AIM+ six-layer design that’s of a proprietary configuration. The material is hand-laid by skilled Japanese craftsmen before being molded into shape. Four different shell sizes are used to accommodate the entire size range. This is done to insure that these DOT and Snell-approved helmets are as safe and light as possible. The safety aspect of each helmet is aided by two separate, multi-density EPS liners that fit between the comfort liner and the outer shell. The foam itself absorbs energy in the event of an impact but also, aids in ventilation with carefully engineered ports that allow air to pass through to the rider and back out of the exhausts.

That brings us to the 3D Max-Dry interior liner. This fully-removable and washable liner works with all of the ventilation channels to keep you comfy. There is some truth in that, but most of them are quite capable on the track.

Yoshimura engine case savers are an easy, logical investment in protection that require no permanent modifications to your machine. In literally five minutes, you can add a layer of thick metal on the outside of the ignition and stator covers on the Yamaha’s engine. Once installed, should you ever throw your bike down the road, you’ll probably thank yourself for the spending the time to put these on your bike!
