  5. Runnin' with the Animals Poker Run and Bike Show Saturday, July 14, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Host: Lycan Society Riders Association Event Type Benefit - Charity The poker run is approximately 96 scenic miles with no interstate highways. Trophies will be awarded to the three best poker hands. There will be five classes of trophies awarded in the bike show: Custom/Modified, Metric Cruiser, Stock, Historic, and RAT. A plaque will be awarded to the bike club with the most attending members. In addition to 18 trophies to be awarded, there will be door prizes, 50/50 raffles, and a Chinese auction. All proceeds will be donated to the all-volunteer Ohio SPCA to help pay for feed and veterinary bills for rescued animals residing on their 40-acre sanctuary. Starved, abused, and homeless animals can’t speak for themselves. For this reason, our bike club decided to help out an organization that really helps animals; to get a couple more bales of hay, a little more grain, or medical treatment. To sum it all up, to help out the people who give the animals a voice. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Location Stooges Bar Address 2932 Noe-Bixby Rd. 6. You know how they say things come in threes. Apaprently that also applies to idiotic cagers. Saturday, I was heading south on Riverside Drive in Dublin at the intersection with East Bridge St. There is a very dangerous junction there where a feeder roadway on the right, which is actually a split of Riverside Drive rejoins the main road. There is a Yield sign there but the Dublin Yuppies not only ignore that sign they actually speed up apparently in an attempt to head off southbound traffic on Riverside Drive. I'm well aware of it that that doesn't really lessen the danger. Two cars about 40 feet apart coming in from the right both gunned it and the second one nearly sideswiped me. The moron, of course, was on the phone chatting. 1/4 mile down the road the van in front of me comes to a screeching halt. Wasn't turning, there were no animals or other obstruction in the road. Driver apparently had a brain cramp. 50 feet down the road a huge black caddy pulls out from a driveway on the right and slams on his barkes at the very last second. I ride a good sized Vulcan which is lit up like a Christmas tree so I'm not hard to see. Thinking of writing a letter to the Dublin PD and Dispatch asking that the Yield sign at that junction be replaced with a Stop sign as I think its the only thing that will get that situation under control. Otherwise its a disaster waiting to happen.
  7. I'm told this year none of it is being held at the fairgrounds but the events are being held in different places. My experience up there has been pretty good, depending on the weather. Its not that big and typically once we make the rounds of the events at the outlying areas we would cruise into downtown, park and walk downtown to the block party.Have seen some good shows there like Black Stone Cherry and will be there to see Jakyl this week. Haven't had the bad experiences with traffic others have had.
  8. I would argue that a number of factors come into play. First we now have at least 2 generations that were raised under a paradigm that 'self-esteem' was considered far more important than critical thinking. So now we have self absorbed Yuppie cagers, thinking the whole highway was built just for them, screaming through super market parking lots at 50 MPG, not signaling or even looking when they change lanes on 270 very often for no reason at all. Having been stationed all over the world and all over the US I feel that the worse drivers in the US are in the deep south. However Columbus area drivers combine incompetence, no 'feel' for their cars or the road, with a deep seated rudeness. That's a dangerous combination. Having spent 6 years in Germany I don't think these 270 hotshots would last 10 minutes on the autobahn. They would be arrested or in a wreck. Propably both. Add to that the fact that Ohio's traffic laws are ranked the 9th most dangerous in the US. There are no unmarked cars allowed to reign in the stupidity in Columbus. So the only enforcement is for speeding, not for reckless stupidity. Again, dumb. And I'm convinced a corpse could pass the joke that is the Columbus area 'driver's exam'. It lasts maybe 10 minutes and I once watched a legally blind man get talked through the vision test here. In the UK you study months for your test. If you fail they do not tell you why. You take a test on driving theory, they open the hood and you have to tell them the parts they point out and what it does and the driving test can take an hour. And heaven help you if they catch you texting. DEspite the narrow roads in the UK driving there is a pleasure as the drivers know what they are doing and are typically polite. So I am convinced all those factors contribute to the stupidity on the roads here in the Columbus area.
  9. The Missing In America Project has identified the forgotten, unclaimed remains of 10 veterans at a funeral home in Columbus, Ohio. American Legion Riders Chapter 239, Worthington, Ohio will head up the motorcycle escort of the remains to the National Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio where they will be put to rest with proper military honors. The escort will depart from the Southway American Legion Post 144, 3253 S. High St., Columbus , Ohio at 7:45am on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. If you'd like to participate please drop me a line. You do not have to belong to the ALR to participate. Help these veterans finally receive the honors and respect they deserve.
  10. Yeah its looking that way. Thing is I find it hard to determine whther the 'feeling' I get from the tires is due to newness or a bad balance.
  11. Thanks for all the suggestion. Will check them all out.
  12. Their product description has water being used to wash off the bike first then after using the Spirits. You don't use any water at all?
  13. The whole house system is not an option. I had one installed when I was in Texas and the water, which is literally shipped to your community from way out of town is basically mud and the outlay would not make sense as I plan on putting the house on the market in a few months. I need something that works on a hose.
  14. I ride a heavy cruiser, Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 2000 LT and I recently went to new tires both front and back. The new tires are Avon Cobras. Now I know new tires can be slick etc but since the switch I sometimes feel a very subtle 'wiggle' that's not necessarily rhythmic and very slight on and off for a few seconds. The shop in question, Ask in Grove City, told me that they were balanced when mounted but I'm beginning to wonder as after about 80 miles I sometimes still feel it. Thinking of getting the balancing checked by another shop. Any thoughts on this? Thanks
  15. Ok so we know that the water here is very hard and leaves all kinds of spots that have to be dealt with on a washed bike. So what's the best way to deal with this? Can anyone recommend a water softener that works with a garden hose or is there a better way to go? Thanks
