  1. Your HSA contributions are tax-free (like 401k contributions), distributions for health care are tax free, and all investment gains are tax free as well. I think you can typically invest anything beyond $2k in the account.

My employer puts $1200 every year into my HSA and I've got it invested in index funds similar to my 401k. It's really starting to build up a decent balance since I've been lucky and haven't had to use it. I've got a high-deductible health care plan (is there really a low deductible plan anymore?) so if ever need it, which I'm sure I will eventually, I won't have to pay anything out of pocket.

  2. I'm a robotics engineer/integrator. I don't mind the job most of the time when I'm actually designing or programming. Dealing with management, procuring funding, etc really sucks.

I do some side work that I find much more enjoyable. I think I really just like working for myself...

  3. The girlfriend asked what I wanted for Christmas and one of the things I've been wanting is a new back protector. Been looking at the Forcefield Pro Sub 4 or the Pro L2 Evo... then I was thinking maybe the EX-K Harness Flight might be a good idea since it's got the built in chest protector too... then I saw the Flight+ with the additional shoulder protection that might be good for shoulder/collarbone protection... then I figured I probably wouldn't be able to fit much more than just the back protector into my suit with my ever expanding waistline and the harness might be hot(ter) in the summer. There's not a lot of room in there as it is.

What are your experiences/preferences with back protectors? Think the chest and/or shoulder protection is worth it? My current one is an old Knox that I got for free with my used suit and it's getting pretty haggard.

  4. Welcome, I'm also located in Marion. There is a small group of us here that race 100s and ride Mid O frequently during the summer months if you are ever interested in trying it out. I don't ride on the street much anymore...

Where do you mountain bike? Alum Creek or Mohican I'm assuming?

Signed up for the 8th.  I'll grab a spot in the garage if you have room.

I think it's just me and you so far... weather forecast has been off and on. As long as it looks like I'm going to get at least a few decent sessions I'll go.

I could list about 10 reasons that track doesn't interest me, but there's no point.  I just doesn't.  Riding has never been about being competitive for me.  Shaving seconds in 20 minute bursts, doesn't check my boxes.

The thought of endurance racing was mildly appealing at one time...but there's zero chance of me actually buying a race bike, trailer, or going through the process of becoming eligible to race.

There's an interesting shitting story here though:

I know it seems to be a very polarizing subject around here but maybe you should give mini racing a shot. There are many people on this board (myself included) who would let you borrow an XR100 for a day if you showed up to a practice or race. First race is also free. It's a hell of a lot of fun bangin bars with a bunch of other cool dudes (no homo) near the limit of the bike while still only doing about 30mph. You're not watching the clock, just the riders around you, and the likely hood of getting hurt is fairly low. With the XR100 you could enter 3 classes (6 races per day, plus 2-3 practice sessions) and still have a short 10-15 min break in between races.

  7. Tried racing/track days? That's pretty much the only riding I do anymore. Get yourself an XR100 and come tear up the little tracks for cheap with us and a beater 600 for trackdays on the big tracks. I've been thinking about selling my street bike for a while now and upgrading my track toys...

  8. I just signed up for I group on Monday and got pull thru garage 19. If you are having trouble getting through on the phone just hit 0 instead of 3. They did say garage 20 is also available if we have too many people to fit in one garage.

So far it's me, Mike Dempsey, Jacob, Andy, Jacob's dad, Todd, and I'm not sure who else.

Anyone know of photographers that are at the mid ohio track days?  I haven't been to one in a while so I'm out of the loop..  Also new to the forum so hey!  I was there 8/19-20 in A.  It was good to be back.

Kyle Hunter is there on occasion. If you want digital copies of his photos you can only buy the complete set for $85 now instead of picking and choosing from what he took. Too spendy for me. I liked it when you could just buy them individually.

  10. Gearing question for you 600cc guys at Mid-O; I'm banging my rev limiter for a second or two right before T1, T2, and T12. Shifting up sucks because I have to shift back down almost immediately after or my drive out of the corner sucks. Would it be better to go up a tooth in the back so I have time to shift or go down a tooth and not have quite as good of a drive but not have to shift? I'm only running up to the top of 5th on the back straight.

This is on a 2004 R6... I think I'm running a -1 front/stock sized rear sprocket right now. Been a while since I've swapped out the sprockets/chain so I'll have to double check.
