  1. This is nothing like the hazings we got/did back in highschool. Freshman would get cornered in a locker room and repeatedly smacked in the face with the football teams jockstraps AFTER practice. Or held by a couple upperclassmen while a line of guys would take turns whacking the kid in the ass with rulers. We never kidnapped little kids, was always low-totem teens in our initiations. These boys should be sentenced to clean public bathrooms for a year over dumbshit like this
That is funny but the little kid wasn't a part of any team with the twice his age teenagers. I hope it was stupidity on their part and nothing sinister was planned.
  2. I saw a really good post on making bacon. Step by step directions including pics. There was also a post about making some venison sausage sticks and the pics looked awesome, they looked like they were from a commercial food company but still artisan. Being that this is the gun forum that sometimes talks about motorcycles, I thought maybe some of you gun guys hunt and would like a new recipe for your venison ;)

  3. Could get a Work Sharp tool/knife sharpener, will give you a consistent, perfectly sharp edge.

And not kidding, but Ginsu Knives hold an edge surprisingly well and are inexpensive.

If you just can't bring yourself to go Ginsu, Victorinox is a quality, mid-priced knife.

Wusthof makes great knives, but dear God they're expensive ($100+ / knife). I have some from my chef days, as stated above they need to be sharpened often. They have enough heft and are balanced so that

they do the work, not you.

Maybe you know this, maybe not, but if you store your knives in one of those butcher block things, put them sharp edge up, or else you're sawing wood every time you put them in that thing. Just store them in the drawer and save some counter space.

If you are serious about cooking you want Wusthof's, Henckels will work also but the W is where it's at. It was the only thing I put on the wedding list that I gave 2 shits about actually lol.

They are by far the best knives on the market, BUT they also cost the most. With knives I have learned you get what you pay for.

I like Wusthof and jblosser said they are balanced but if you are willing to spend the money for good knives you have to try them out. I have a mix of different brands. You have to purchase what feels right to you. The most important issue that jblosser pointed out is the knife has to do the work for you. Most kitchen accidents are caused by using a dull or cheap knife.

  4. Mines has 2 lines am I pregnant?
If you are pregnant can I throw the baby shower for you? All food will be provided to OR members for free, so no need for a temporary license from the health department;)
  5. I have a set of Henckels that are 8 years old and are just know getting to the point they need sharped. Great knives

Yes they are great knives I used mine six days a week for twelve hours a day and had my chef knife sharpened every six months so for home use I can see you getting by for that long. Pretty good investment for eight years and you will get another twenty out of them with good care.

  6. she has the cash saved from babysitting to either replace the ipod (which seems to have recovered from it's bath) our buy her own iphone. . the issue is the $30/mo it adds to the bill. I'll give her credit. she looked at our current plan and compared it to the new ones and realized if she can convince the wife to upgrade to a smartphone, the difference for a second smartphone on the new plan is only $10 more than adding one to or current plan. she might be able to work her way in to an upgrade that way for only $10 a month. sneaky.
Another issue to think about is are you ok with her having access to the internet whenever she wants. Does she have internet with the dumbphone? Is your wife ok with having a dumbphone? Kids are sneaky, good play on her part but I wouldn't give in. Convince her to save her money for college. Even if you have a plan in place to pay for college she WILL need extra money.
  7. Go figure on the timing. Daughter who has been crying for an iphone accidentally dropped her ipod touch in the toilet last night. Now she needs a new ipod, and gee, a new iphone is about the same price....

She is going to be one disappointed kid for the rest of the summer.....;)

What the heck was she doing with an ipod in the bathroom? Is it necessary to twitter and facebook about bodily functions? Just kidding, back in the day kids brought their boom box in the bathroom to listen to music while getting ready for a night out. Times have changed, can't drop a boom box in the sink or toilet. All I can say is my son will pay for the repairs. I want him to grow up and know that a "good life" is just not handed to him
  8. I feel your pain. At six, they thought it was special to be allowed to use my stuff and treated as such. Now as a teen, and almost teen, they just use it like it's a disposable piece of crap toy. My daughter thinks just because her two year contract is up on her first phone she should get upgraded to a smart phone and keeps asking for an iphone. That little pos phone she has now works just fine as far as I'm concerned. ;)

I did not allow my son to have a cellphone until there was an issue with the school bus being almost two hours late and i purchashed him a prepaid phone. Probably a bit different frim your situation because he was only eight years old at the time. I sometimes feel that all video games, computers, and cellphones should be destroyed to protect our children from turning into a bunch of zombies.
