  1. SE Ohio and WV have some amazing roads for sport bikes.  If you're willing to ride a few hundred miles in a day, you may just find sport bike Nirvana.  When the weather cooperates there will be plenty of group rides posted.  There's a good number of seasoned ride leaders that post on this board, with plenty of knowledge about riding/motorcycles/routes.

Get some gear if you don't already have it.  Helmet, armored jacket, gloves, and over the ankle boots at a minimum.  Armored pants or a riding suit are a really good idea, too.

    Learn proper riding/cornering technique.

Don't be one of the guys that wants to show everyone how fast he is, only to crash on your first group ride...never to return.  There have been too many of those guys to count.  No matter how good of a rider you are or how fast your bike is, there will always be someone better, faster, smoother.  Leave the ego at home.  Use it as an opportunity to to learn.  Ask questions at gas stops, ask someone to follow you though the corners to give feedback, etc.  And read this:  http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/flashback/122_0911_the_pace_nick_ienatsch/

I'm sure others will chime in with stuff I didn't mention...

Please excuse my untimely reply, been swamped...

Sportbike nirvana is exactly what I'm looking for. No doubt, you'll find me at some rides and the track this riding season. In addition to the gear, which I'm pretty much have, I'll be bringing along with me a list of questions if you don't mind.

In regards to Twist of the Wrist II, since your recommendation, I've listened to the video probably around 7 times now lol and will be quick to admit just how much I've learned. I strongly second your recommendation of this material... Any new riders out there, this is a must!

Tpoppa, cant thank you enough for the advice. I owe you a brew!

    I

Come to Coshocton with Hutch and I, as long as you listen to our warning talk before the ride you'll have a great day.

If you don't, you'll find yourself under a guard rail or in the woods somewhere. This is common knowledge.

"Fighting for the front" on our ride is also encouraged, but not from newbs

Count me in! I'll pm you
  2. Again, I like this guy. In a non homo way.

Agreed, the ability to take a joke in stride is refreshing!

    He passes.

He gets our sick humor, that is a rarity! :)

Thanks! I'll be here all week;)

Depending on you goals as a rider, you may want to rethink the Club thing.

If you really want to learn how to ride that 1000RR, you aren't going to do it bar hopping in formation wearing a vest.  Plus most skilled street & track riders (that have tons of riding knowledge) probably aren't going to join you.

Kinda of like you, I have a large group of old friends.  None of them like to ride the way I do.  So, I found a group that likes sport bikes at hyper legal speeds and they're skilled enough to do it without crashing.  We ride every weekend the weather allows.  We ride uber twisty backroads.  It's ridiculous fun.

Beats the hell out of formation rides

Wow for 23 I'm impressed. Let me give you a little nugget though. Everything you want and state you are looking for can all be done without a club. When I started riding I had zero friends who rode. Almost 5 years of being a forum member and I bet I have at least 30 friends I met through this forum. You don't need no stinkin club!

Also, ride with the right guys and your skill level will develop 10 fold

Lastly, "fighting for the front" for any group ride is about the worst idea ever and will surely result in some serious wrecks. So in the interest of fellow motorcyclist safety, please rethink that

You sir have made some valid points & I thoroughly enjoyed the video evidence! that is definitely moreso what I am looking to get involved in. Where might be the best place to start? I am hoping to get on the track for the first time (on a sportbike) this summer.

Regarding the "fighting for the front" comment, I was just puffing my chest ;) I am a aggressive but cautious rider, with still a lot to learn.

  3. wanna buy some drugs?

you've effectively gotten me to spit food everywhere in a spurt of laughter

    Hello, Ohio riders!

I just moved to Athens, from flat and boring Florida...

I'm looking forward to ride the roads of Southeast Ohio and region.

    Take care!

Best regards to you. You have much to look forward to once this weather turns around!

  4. can we make bets on how long before he gets banned?

I didn't know you were allowed to post on here if you don't own a bike ;)

Will there be all kinds of silly 3 patch rules?

So many it'll make your head spin!

    But seriously, no. Lol

This isn't that kind of place dude...plenty of guys have come in here trying to recruit for one MC or another, they all vanish after being ridiculed and laughed at. I know I know, your club is different, and we'll all have a wonderful time and hold hands and sing songs and do $1.85 on the freeway standing on the seat flapping our arms and throwing 'bows....but no....we aren't club people...we abhor the posturing, politics and general idea of clubs. We ride. Sometimes alone, sometimes in groups but we don't dress up in colors and patches and go from bar to bar in formation. Not trying to be a dick, I'm sure eventually someone else will tho.

No harm, no foul. Please refer to my post on another thread: "I can understand that the MC concept may not be as appealing to others as I and had been expecting some ridicule... but hey, this wouldn't be a forum without it lol, let alone be the Internet I've got thick enough skin and plan to endure. I'm just looking to make friends, participate in said gatherings and lie-telling... and not just in the club but in OR as well.!

I'm 23 and have no friends that ride... Just looking for a good time, to talk motorcycles, shop and women, in no particular order. Coming from a very tight knit group of 13 friends that all seem to be drifting different directions in life, I kind of miss that comradery and hope to achieve something similar with this MC. If you're looking for the same, let's get rowdy! If not, that's cool too (yawn)."

Note that you sound like a grumpy old man in your posts...additionally, this will be a sportbike club. No formations, you fight for the front.

I'm interested. Can I join even though there is a contingent of people who feel my bike isn't a "sport bike"

If you are truly interested in the opportunity, please PM me.

  5. Yep.  Here we go...

Suggestions of clubs seem to not go well in here.

There's a lot of poking fun at the idea, and many

leave in a huff when their good intentions are met

with ridicule and harsher teasing than one should

have to endure when approaching under a banner

    of friendship and brotherhood.

We'll post up rides open to others, announce

gatherings in far off places, and sit around a

campfire, smoking cigars and telling lies.  Clubs

require something many here lack the interest in

involving their time in, though others may be

    interested.

Prepare for an ass raping at the mere suggestion,

learn to laugh about it, and give 'em back as much

as they give you.  Don't stomp off.  Just shake it

    off and join in.

Welcome to OhioRiders.  We're glad to have you.

    .

Thank you for the kind words of advice, JackFlash. I can understand that the MC concept may not be as appealing to others as I and had been expecting some ridicule... but hey, this wouldn't be a forum without it lol, let alone be the Internet ;) I've got thick enough skin and plan to endure. JackFlash, I think I'm going to stick around these parts and want to thank you for having me.

  6. Welcome, and

    Thank you, Tonik

Hi. You had me till the bad ass part. Sunofabitch. I like patches.

Hey. Tell you what dude, we are pretty lenient on the badass part... I mean, hell you ride, so you gotta be cool, right? ;) come get some patches!

I'm in Lewis center and like patches....

Please PM me if you are really interested in getting yours. Regardless, how about we get together and cruise sometime?

    What club?

I'm not sure I'm allowed to advertise that, but PM me if youd really like to know. I'll tell you it is not some gang or a 1% club. There are background checks (which I'll pay for), no felons allowed. Sorry felons, lol society has it out for you.

:welcomeor: sub'd for future entertainment value

......and, we're basically already an MC here -- except we do stickers and t-shirts instead of patches

Hello Hellmutt. Well glad to be a member of this MC. Looks as if I'm going to have to buy a t-shirt then ;)
  7. Are there any bike nights around that get more sport riders? QSL gets a handful, but that makes me wonder where all the metric riders hang out. It would be cool to help out with a metric focused bike night.

I'll second that, tro.aimee. I'm putting together an Ohio chapter of a sportbike motorcycle club in hopes to find fellow metric riders to meet up with. PM me if you're interested in learning more. If you'd like to put meets together, I'd be more than happy to help!

  8. Hey guys, first time poster, long time lurker... looking to be more involved in the OR community. Hello everyone! How you all doing? If you're anything like me, you're cursing the fact that you don't live closer to the equator!

So anyways, I'm putting together the Ohio chapter of a well-known sportbike motorcycle club. Yes, it is going to be badass. So if youre a badass and are interested in learning more regarding this MC and it's membership, don't hesitate to PM me. You know you want to join. You'll get cool patches like those guys in sons of anarchy! Lol

Well, nice to meet you folks. Gotta get some nookie before she falls asleep!

congrats! should have alot left in that! should see 10 teens before snow flys

  10. my bad, ill change it to SBC>SBF lol.

either way, they are still more expensive. also i dont know about after market heads, but stock 302/351 heads flow pretty good on the intake side, but not so much on the exaust.

302 and 351 are every where

finding a decent not beat to hell 350, well go find one

    heads cost about the same

stroker kits cost about the same

cams cost the same, but its cheaper to have a roller cam sbf

put some cleveland heads on a winsor and tell me they dont flow

now, honesty you can make power with what ever! and make good power. sbf/sbc/lsx what ever. all matters on what you want.

now just to prove a point. how many guys on here could toss some spare 302 parts together and go 10's? on spray or with a turbo? (alot i'll beat) now try that with a sbc...might be better off starting with a lsx tho.

  11. Sorry I didnt mean all year triton motors, or all plugs.. I was thinking of something else, I meant you can leave them in or change them... Like the Original poster, he just replaced them not too long ago.. And had one blow out.

So for better MPG I would personally just replace them when you buy the truck.. And fix the plug holes when they strip out..

I had a friends 2004 f150 that didnt blow out, but when I went to do his tune up none of them wanted to come out.. Luckily he was wanting to trade it in, so he got rid of it..

like already stated, 2002 and up heads have 10 thread heads, some 2002 / and before all had 4 thread heads.

time sert kit is the only way to fix it correctly
