  1. Don't know if I'll make it now, not sure if I'll have my bike back together by then. Still waiting to get body parts and tank back from my guy. Should be any day now though. Moving to Colorado on the 26th, so that doesn't make it much easier either. Although I'm looking forward to having way cooler roads than all of you ohioans [emoji12]

  2. I ride an SV also, and can relate. I have rearsets, on the lowest setting with is probably close to stock height and also get knee stiffness. But I'll get a 2nd bike before I get rid of this one (got it too cheap, & first bike nostalgia)

I did recently ride a V-Strom 650 for about 2 minutes, has same motor as our SV minus the cams being slightly different. But I was shocked how high those sit, never even realized. And I think they are very sporty for a ADV bike, and Cleary it can hold its own in the twisties no problem, might not be for track days though unless you really wanted it to be I guess.

But coming from someone with similar experience and taste, I wouldn't rule out sporty-tourers or some adv bikes, they can change your perception with a quick ride or sitting on. I'm going to be looking in that department for my next bike likely, if not maybe a 675 for me also, they're pretty badass.

  3. Been driving around topless/door less in the jeep for the past 2 days. First time I've done it and it really is the next best thing to riding my bike, since I can't ride for another week or 2, it really helps curb my anxiety to ride in this fantastic weather. 11fd445f5dd00a755e645226303a23ae.jpg

  4. Hell yeah!!! That was freakin awesome!

Would totally have done that with him if I had all that legit gear. Looked like one hell of a rush. Glad he didn't get pinched by the law.

  5. Yeah. Poly is for the track but will make you car ride like a pickup truck on the street.

Most people are steering away from poly all together anymore for performance means. It's all about replacing as many bushings as possible with sphericals now. Other than the few good places to use poly that have been mentioned, steering/sway bars, full car poly bushing kits are a big hoax and actually hinder suspension performance and articulation. If you're replacing suspension parts on a daily driver, always stick with oem bushings if you can.
  6. Just dropped 135 for a tow last night, pilot bearing is likely in several pieces on my 95 s14.

Of course I only got to enjoy my badass new coilovers for 2 months. I'm having wonderful luck lately.

Twas my last donut for a while... not the bakery kind

I do agree on the car payment thing, I'm staying away from one as long as I can. not a bad choice to fix what you got.

  7. Chad: Sorry to see your SV going back under the knife….mea culpa. :( If it's the same or similar to a Wee, lash check is pretty easy, although most folks say taking the radiator out is the way to go. Adjustment is another issue. Cams have to come out to change shims, which means pulling the cam tensioners--and I've read the rear cylinder can be a mother-- and then re-timing the valve train according to the cam timing marks. If you have to go the whole route, set your clearance to the high range of adjustment, since valves tighten over time as they recess into the valve seats. Good luck, dude!

It's all part owning and riding, I'm fine with it. this was already planned actually (a touch up anyway [emoji6] ), just needed to get it apart and to my buddy over in indiana before I move since he's so good to me and my wallet.

I'm sure the valve check is the same as the wee since they're identical motors mostly lol. Maybe someone who's done it before on here could be bribed with beer to help me out or at least supervise me so I don't mess anything up. Did read a good write up on the process and it certainly is time consuming.

  8. If you find something let me know to please I just moved out here and I'm trying to find a nice place to ride and unwind for a bit.

You're not too far from Northern Kentucky, doing a half day ride over there tomorrow, free to join. http://www.ohioriders.net/index.php?/topic/107340-NKY-Ride--Friday,-5/1,-@-9-AM,-200-Miles-of-Twisty-Goodness!

There's not much of anything around dayton, but if you venture an hour or so out in a few directions you'll find some very good roads. good luck and have a good first season in ohio.

  9. OB: Hate to be the harbinger of bad news, but….

Hillsboro is a 90 minute/70+ mile roll for me one way, and the roads between here and there--for the most part--suck!!!

It's difficult for me to convince myself to do 3+ hour RT just to get to the good roads in eastern OH when I can be across the river in 20 minutes and in the middle of NKY goodness.

As the days get longer, our best bet to meet up and ride together is prolly gonna be for you to head south and for me to head east and we meet in NKY and ride for a few hours there.

If we meet in Maysville, it's still an hour and a half for me and an hour for you, but at least I can take some sweet KY roads to our meet-up. Let's keep each other in the loop, tho.

Would be interested in hitting up some NKY with you, I'll keep watch on this.

  10. If you come up I75 North for about 10 minutes to the tricounty/springdale area, there are 2 very good shops/stores.

    Springdale has Cycle Specialties

And tricounty has Sport Tour, both about 10 minutes from each other and both very nice stores with a great selection.

  11. Depends on the year, I have a friend with a lighter blue 05 fz6 and I have a dark blue 08. I usually ride with a red jacket unless I'm riding 2 up in which case I'm wearing a giant gray one.

I live near Pisgah if you're familiar but go to Miami Oxford so I ride through hamiltuckey fairly often.

Gotcha, was signed in a wrong account for some reason when I posted.

But I've seen a dark blue fz6 in and out of my apartment complex a few times, LakotaLake, but could've been someone else, don't remember jacket color..

Next time you and your buddy get out for a local ride post up again and I'll probably meet up with ya.

  12. If the Battlax is a steel-belt radial construction, plugs can be difficult to get a perfect seal, and I've heard anecdotally that the belts MAY end up cutting the plug as the steel belts flex during riding. A plug works just fine in a poly belt tire, whether radial or bias. If it's steel belt construction, I'd recommend de-mounting the tire and having a vulcanizing patch installed.

Yeah mine that is plugged is a steel belted radial, and it was indeed the most difficult plug I've ever put in because of that. But it has worked with zero issues. I do agree that a vulcanized patch is the best of the best in terms of tire repair though.
