  1. Still waiting to hear on whether it is totaled or not to be clear

It really all boils down to business. Everyone basically wins but there is better ways to win more.

    Let us know what happens.

  2. I imagine places like co-part (friend just got a job there actually) that specialize in salvage vehicles will make a killing off it. I would be completely shocked if insurance companies and places like co-part didn't have some sort of exclusive partnership.

No doubt they do, copart isn't the largest either.. they recently bought out another local auction called "salvage direct", it was a great place with tons of deals but after they were bought out it went down the shitter and cars/bikes are sitting at the lot rotting away.

My friend bought his R1 back for $1000. Instead of taking the $6500 he got the bike + $5500. If he didn't then it would have went to copart/IAA and sold for 2-4k easily [2006 with 6k miles] (bike was barely damaged, he is probably riding it right now).

That's why I stress buying it back from insurance and either keeping or selling it to someone who would rebuild it (me) or any of the other 20 people who will want it.

  3. Am i the only one that feels they total cars just so they can make an assload in parts when the tow it to a salvage yard?

Yup. If the owners don't buy them back, auctions will and most of the time they double-triple there money when they sell..

  4. Yeah really 2 options...take the money and consider a new toy at some point or buy it back, fix it, and keep it.

& some people wonder how rebuilt title cars can have such minor damage and still get totaled out.

You have another option. Buy it back and sell it for more. You would make more then the money you would take from the insurance^ guaranteed $500 at least depending what kind of deal you want to make. If they total it out ask them -how much would they give you if you wanted to keep the car-

Let us know. I support the boost build :gabe: but also got in line if you want to end up making the most (if not keeping)

  5. A buddy of mine just did this with his Saab SUV (6.2l version). Go the vehicle for dirty pennies from the insurance co., bought a new front clip, used it to replace his, kept his motor, sold the other one and had the vehicle painted like new. Kept the big fat check from the insurance co. and ended up putting it down on a new MBZ SUV.

Right on! Similar situation happened to one of my buddies a couple weeks ago on his low mileage R1, actually a member on here also. Lady rear ended him and her hood went between the tail and rear tire and popped some of the fairings out but the bike never tipped over. The estimator looked i over and long story short he was offered an amount and I told him to ask what they'd give him if he wanted to keep the bike. He ended up making money off the check they wrote out and still has the bike (popped the plastic fairings back in position and fixed his rear plate & is currently driving it) No way of even telling it was ever in an accident but will be issued a rebuilt salvage title once a police inspection is passed.

  6. Jesus vulture.

It's sort of my line of work so I'm making him aware..

90% of the time its better to buy the car back from an insurance company and receive a lesser amount since you will most likely get the car for pocket change of its worth.

I'd hope it wouldn't be totaled but any bent metal starts looking sketchy to estimators. Just interested in seeing the outcome.

Had a kid that wasn't hers in the car too?!? :fuuuu:

  7. Sad sight to see! :(

If its totaled out (which it looks to be) I would be interested in knowing what insurance would want for it to buy it off them. I'd offer you some cash on top if you wouldn't want to hold onto it.

for example they may total the car and give you 30k

if you buy it back they'd give you 25k + the car.

& I would offer 5500 making you an extra 500 then the first insurance offer

PM me if you have any details, its going to wind up on an auction and probably go triple what you can get it for..

  8. Talk to a semi-driver and ask who they know that dispatches, once you have that contact they will be able to post the car up for you with a low price until someone bites to pick it up. I usually go with every mile is a dollar. So 500 miles away is $500, 1200 miles away is $1200 etc.. But from past experience its usually cheaper.
  9. Cleveland? But, this is COLUMBUSRACING? Are you in Columbus often?

Ya, getting parts/cars and visiting friends.

Welcome, do you hang out with the PPE crew?

Nope, I'm not familiar with the PPE crew.

Apologize for the garbo cell phone pics.

Hope to see some more action popping up around OH. Recently had a bit of fun with a newer built mustang just waiting on the kid to send me the vids they recorded...might be too ashamed...

Looking forward to meeting some new people.

    Thanks!
