  1. Heeeeeey according to that, I'm equipped to go as fast as I can probably go in a mile. No mention of a cage on an N/A car until you get to 175....which doesn't make sense really.

Other than the rulebook, that sates the five point safety harness must be mounted to a roll cage which is required above 135mph+....

  2. Doesn't matter which. Stock for stock---mod for mod, not much can come close to the z-06.

You are correct but not necessarily dollar for dollar. Why else do people buy Mustangs, they are typically cheaper in all those categories... ;)

  3. There are a dozen or more here that do it every Saturday on 270 with not a fuck given. Hell, I bet many go well over 150mph on multiple occasions. For the record, no I'm not one of them. Now perhaps on your bike given it's capability it would involve a little pucker factor.

Sure they do.....only problem is passing tech which is a little more difficult. Once you do that, probably only a small % will even break 150+ and an even smaller amount over 170+...

    To go to 135 MPH:

    Speed rated tires

    Three point seat belts

    Long Sleeve shirt/jacket

    Long Pants

Snell 2005 or 2010 full-face helmet with face shield

    Open Cockpit cars must:

Have a Four Point Roll Bar

(Required for open cars with no hood or side opening only)

    Suit – SFI 3.2A-1

    Boots SFI – 3.3/5

    Gloves SFI 3.3/5

    Head Sock SFI 3.3

    135 to 150MPH:

Five point safety harness SFI 16.1 or 16.5 (no more than 5 years old)

    Unblown car:

    Suit – SFI 3.2A-1

    Boots SFI – 3.3/5

    Gloves SFI 3.3/5

Head Sock SFI 3.3 (Required for open cars with no hood or side opening only)

    Blown car:

    Suit – SFI 3.2A-1

    Boots SFI – 3.3/5

    Gloves SFI 3.3/5

    Head Sock SFI 3.3

Four Point Roll Bar (Open cockpit cars must have a six point roll bar)

    Speed rated tires

    Hood Hold Downs

    Kill Switch

Electric fuel pumps require an inertial kill switch to disable pump

    Arm restraints OR door net

All vehicles running under 150mph using factory high-back seats and using a racing belt system, the shoulder belts can not go around the seat but MUST go thru the seat back. The belts can not be deflected up, down or to the side because of the location of the seat slot but must go straight to the cross bar of the rollbar/cage. If under 135 MPH and without a rollbar/cage system, you can not use racing belts as they can not be mounted per manufactures specifications.

    150 to 175MPH:

Five point safety harness SFI 16.1 or 16.5 (no more than 5 years old)

    Unblown car:

    Suit – SFI 3.2A-5

    Boots SFI – 3.3/5

    Gloves SFI 3.3/5

    Head Sock SFI 3.3

    Blown car:

    Suit – SFI 3.2A-15

    Boots SFI – 3.3/5

    Gloves SFI 3.3/5

    Head Sock SFI 3.3

Six Point Roll Bar (Open cockpit cars must have a full cage)

    Speed rated tires

5 Lb fire suppression system- driver compartment (not a fire extinguisher)

    Arm restraints OR door net

Electric fuel pumps require an inertial kill switch to disable pump

A metal seat designed for racing. A maximum of 1.0" of padding.

    175 to 200 MPH:

Five point safety harness SFI 16.1 or 16.5 (no more than 5 years old)

    Speed rated tires

    Land Speed Parachute

    Full Roll Cage

SFI 38.1 type head and neck restraint system

Full Containment metal seat or a roll cage structure to provide restriction to lateral head movement of less than 2.0” per side inclusive of structure deflection.

    Suit – SFI 3.2A-15

    Boots SFI – 3.3/5

    Gloves SFI 3.3/15

    Head Sock SFI 3.3

Window tabs required front and rear

Electric fuel pumps require an inertial kill switch to disable pump

10 Lb fire suppression system- driver and engine compartment ( may be two five pound bottles. (Not a fire extinguisher)

    Arm restraints AND door net

    To go Over 200 MPH:

    Suit – SFI 3.2A-20 Blown

    Suit-SFI 3.2A-15 Unblown

    Boots SFI – 3.3/15

    Gloves SFI 3.3/15

    Head Sock SFI 3.3

    Roof Rails

Five point safety harness SFI 16.1 or 16.5 (no more than 5 years old)

    Speed rated tires

    Land Speed Parachute

SFI 38.1 type head and neck restraint system

    Full Roll Cage

Window tabs required front and rear

Electric fuel pumps require an inertial kill switch to disable pump

10Lb fire suppression system- driver and engine compartment ( may be two five pound bottles. (Not a fire extinguisher)

    Arm restraints AND door net

Full Containment metal seat or a roll cage structure to provide restriction to lateral head movement of less than 2.0” per side inclusive of structure deflection.

    ;)

  4. Really. What else can you buy stock and have this much power and ability to track?

    Yes,.....drag, roadcourse, auto-x, which?

There are many types of track days....and if he means road course then I hope he's paying cash.

Nothing worse then stuffing a car into the wall and the track insurance not covering it...

  5. (former) Air Force 10-years

    1C1X1 Air Traffic Control

I could go on forever talking about it. Would do it over again in a heartbeat. Would change a few things but not much.

My biggest recommendation to anyone joining - "PICK A JOB THAT WILL GET YOU HIRED WHEN YOU GET OUT!"

I've seen to many people get into jobs, not careers that get them no where when they get out. Get something you can use, apply, and run with when you have to go to plan B, F, X, whatever....think, plan and look long term but always have multiple backups. The only thing that is certain is change (besides the hurry up and wait)..

Whatever, you do SIGN UP FOR THE GI BILL!! Even if you don't use it, your spouse, kids, family, etc. may be able to use it down the road. Or if you decide in 5 or 10 years to go back to school and get a Masters, whatever. It costs little and the payback is unbeatable...

After basic, call USAA and get setup with a checking/savings account they are probably the best bank/insurance/etc. company available IMO.

  6. Not even close.

    Go do some research...

+1 gotta say that's the worst color combination on a car i've seen yet. dark blue, white stripe, black wheels? no thanks

I don't think its bad in person, my coworker has that combo...

    u serious bro?

Yes,....not really a cost factor since he's looking at used Z's to a new BOSS.

But a Griggs setup Mustang will flat move around corners....

If he was more concerned about cost, I would say a used 5.0 with Griggs suspension but he's not primarily tracking it so the Z06 would be the better buy.

If he needs more seats for family fun and use, the BOSS may be what he wants. If he's single/gf only then the Z06 may be what he wants if he's just cruising, DD or the once in a while 1/4-mile run.

Still don't know what the main use of the car will be...

  7. 1) Not sure of my top speed; a very fast glance at the 3/4 marker looked like 175 to me, but I don't trust any factory speedo to be accurate that high. I got no time slip, and the trap speed wasn't announced, but when I was getting yelled at by the Race Director he said I went through the trap at 162 with the brake lights on. I was, in fact, trying to get it down to 150 so that I would get a warning but not get booted.

    2) I loved the event, but like any event, you have to judge it for what it is, not for how you'd like it to be. This is a group of mostly close-knit old timers from Maxton, some of whom also go to Bonneville regularly. A few of the real old timers ran around the time of Burt Munro (World's Fastest Indian). They're almost all great people. They come from Alaska, California, Maine, Canada, Texas. They might cut you a little slack here and there, in a friendly way, but you're not going to steamroller over them at their own event. They really don't care if you like it or not, this is the way they do it.

    3) I don't build anything. It's a matter of what I buy. I admire people who do their own builds, but it's not work to which I am suited. I don't own anything other than the Bentley that's going to be impressive at a mile. I've thought of seeing what the 999 will do, but that would just be for the experience of riding it that fast. If I entered the Viewt, it would be for comic relief. I'll most likely just spectate for the 3 remaining events of 2012.

I think it would be more fun if we took a big group from CR there, set up a shelter, cooked out, and had a good time. Get away from the group when you want to talk with the drivers/come together at the shelter when you want to jaw with your buddies.

Heck, it's only an hour from Columbus, cost for the whole weekend of spectating is only $15 ($10 for one day), young kids get in free, servicemen get in free. Hard for me to imagine skipping this if you're into fast cars or into car shows.

I figured they would be nazi's about the speed then again, with what happened at Maxton I can understand some of it.

So are you going to buy/build anything to race again?

I won't make the June race but hope to see you guys in Sept. It would be nice if there was a CR gathering/pit area for everyone to hang out and watch, BS, etc..

  8. The bigger news is that it will be able to hit 200mph out of the box. It's probably the cheapest price point, in relatively dollars and maybe even real dollars, that's every happened. Maybe even the cheapest ever, including into the future?

    http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2012/04/2013-shelby-gt500-662-horsepower-200-mph-why/

Not true, only the Performance Package version with 3:31 gears will go 200mph, the base model will not...

  9. The banished one sitting in the corner with the buses and vans….

A lot of guys told me today that they loved to see the big car getting a taste of the whip on Saturday, they just wished that the speed would have been announced after the run.

    Doc,

So how fast did you end up going? What did you think of the event and are you building something to run again?

  10. You said 1670 and then changed it to 1300 for your comparison. It's more like:

    SV-MUCH > 1600whp - RWD - 3,250 - 3,300 pounds

    -VS-

SL - 1500whp - AWD (meaningless since not racing 0-60 or 1/4 mile) - 3,503 pounds (assuming UGR kept it as light as Heffner).

Also don't forget that UGR dyno's all of their cars in RWD because they kept snapping front driveshafts in AWD and, because of this, have been desperately trying to have a certain company make them quick-disconnect ones. LOL

That's why they say "whp". they don't want to say what kind.

I changed it because that's what you said in the video posted when you were interviewed "1,600hp making around 1,300whp." That's why I asked, how much power will the car make?

How are you getting the car down to 3,300lbs with the added weight of the turbo kit? What other parts are you removing or replacing with lighter options?

The fact that you keep saying AWD is meaningless at that power level is... :lolguy:

You do realize that most cars making 1,300whp+ won't hook from less than a 90+ roll? Are you really going to be doing 100mph+ roll races just to have a chance?

You are also aware that UGR has made more than 1,600whp+ (Holt made 1,900whp) with the Gallardo's even in RWD configuration?

Completely depends on the situation. If that were a blanket true statement, Formula 1, Dragsters, ALMS, Indy Car, NASCAR, etc. have all missed the AWD boat. Therefore, there are obviously many disadvantages to AWD in certain applications. In high-speed runs, it mostly saps power, PARTICULARLY in Lambos terrible AWD system. The G isn't nearly as bad as the M, but it's no Haldex system either.

Only problem is none of that is relevant in a roll race scenario on the "street" where there is zero VHT or track prep...
