  1. Southernmost Point at Key West today. Can you believe the government is paying me to do this?

Snorkeling Friday, then returning home via the Smoky Mountains.

  2. Grassy Gap Road, just south of Suches. It was neither grassy nor much of a road.

I wish I would've started recording 5 minutes earlier. I came upon an AT&T service van trying to crawl his way through this 'road'. He didn't look too happy when I went around him. He must have been following the same Garmin suggestion.

  3. Updated post below with for sale info.

I hate to get rid of this. But it's been sitting in my living room since I bought the GSXS last year. And I miss my Grom. I might regret this even though I don't ride it anymore.

Will trade for a Honda Grom ONLY. No outright sale, no trade for anything else, trade for a low mileage mostly stock Grom only. If you're serious contact me and I'll give you the details. I'm keeping some farkles and the luggage.

  4. My GSXS1000 requires 90. It seems most places in Indiana have 87, 89 and 93, so I go for the 93. The extra price isn't that ridiculous especially when you're only filling a 4.5 gallon bike tank. Plus, like Wandering Soul said above, the 87 in the hose probably evens it out.

Everything else uses 87 except for my New Beetle Turbo S, it takes 91. I could probably piss in the V-Strom's tank and it'd run fine.

  5. Most of the trip (pretty much all of it) is going to be on boring interstate. Like the last trip, we only have 2 weeks to do this.

We haven't decided yet if we're going to do hotels each night or camp. When we went out to California, we brought camping stuff, but ended up staying in hotels every night. After riding on the interstates all day, we didn't feel like finding and setting up a campsite, hotels were just easier. It was also cold most of the trip. However I'm not sure about the availability of hotels in the Yellowstone area. They're also probably a bit more expensive.

  6. In May 2015 after I got back from my deployment, my girlfriend and I rode out to California and back. I was planning on hitting all the northern states on the way back, however bad weather kept us on a southern route for the way home.

I still want to see the northern sights, like Crater Lake, Yellowstone, Devils Tower, and Mount Rushmore. So we've started planning our Go West Part 2 trip for the first two weeks of June.

  7. For the longest time I collected and restored old Schwinns. At one point I had over 35 bikes in my house. I still have a bunch of old ones. Phantoms, Sting Rays, Fastbacks, Krates, Paramounts, lightweights, middleweights, etc. They can be seen here:  https://blue72beetle.smugmug.com/Schwinn/  One of my favorite old Schwinn stories is the rare 1951 Paramount Tourist I got for $160 in outstanding condition. Hung onto it for awhile, then sold it on ebay for $1,200. Another one is the one-year-only Flamingo Pink Tandem I found just a few blocks from my house. They were the original owners and won it in a radio contest in Chicago (home of the old Schwinn company) in 1977. Never rode it, the crank bearings were spotless. The one I regret selling the most was the 1971 Grey Ghost Coaster in original paint.

My real bicycle addiction is the Schwinn Homegrown line. From back when Schwinn made high end bikes before they became a walmart brand. I started a Homegrown group on Facebook, it's got nearly 500 people now and we've done some cool stuff in keeping these classic bikes going. Even have Mert Lawwill on there and some people that used to work for Schwinn. I used to ride a lot, I haven't lately, I need to get out and ride more. Problem is just like with motorcycling, northern Indiana is boring.  https://blue72beetle.smugmug.com/Homegrown/

Yeah, you could say I love my Homegrowns....
