I have long thought the Triumph triples seemed like the perfect engine for my needs/wants. Based on my 10 minute test ride, I think I may have been on to something

I posted a while back about wanting a Speed Triple. I still do want one, but it looks like that will be a while because I came across a sweet deal on a Tiger, so it's mine. Well, it will be when I get the money to the guy and pick it up. 2005 Triumph Tiger 955i with matching side cases (dark green) and non-triumph top case, 17k miles, for $3,000. He has had it advertised on CL since early this year, first at 4k, then 3,500, and now at 3k. I would have bought it at 3,500 except it hasn't had the valve checks done at 12k miles. Most people say that the 12k valve check isn't necessary anyway, but it will definitely need the 24k done, and that is expensive. He let me ride it and it was all over. Compared to my Bonne, this thing is a freaking Cadillac. And the power, whoa the power. Such a sweet engine that triple is. So, unless someone wants to give me one, the Speedy will have to wait, but I'm not really bummed. This thing is pretty sweet. I didn't even think to take a pic, but I will post some pics eventually.

Yes, those are low miles. I see the britrider link on your sig - did you go to the Triumph rally at Salt Fork? I was there, but left around 11:00 Saturday morning when it looked like the weather wouldn't clear. Rode back to Columbus on my Bonne in the rain.

Thanks for the input. I actually rode through Piqua twice yesterday. I've heard nothing but good things about the 1050. Of the three bikes that I'm currently desiring, the 1050 Speedy and the 1050 Tiger are two, with the Street Triple being the third. Everyone at the Triumph rally last week at Salt Fork raved about the 1050 also. There were several Sprints there 955 and 1050, I believe. I mean, it isn't a life and death decision. I don't have to keep it forever. But I'd like to get something that I'm happy with for at least a while

Here is a pristine 2012 Triumph Street Triple in Reynoldsburg. I eventually decided that I wanted something else, but if you are looking for one of these (I think the Imperial Purple was only offered in 2012) you will not find a cleaner example. I was worried that it may have been neglected, but it wasn't. This guy really seems to take care of his bikes, he just doesn't ride a lot and switches them out often to try new things. He said that he bought it in spring of 2014 as a new leftover model and that it has had the first service performed by the dealer (Motohio). The price is (IMHO) good. The bike appears to be perfect. The seller seemed like a great guy. I almost bought it. I'm just guessing, but I doubt that every single Speed Triple owner "wants the front wheel to lift off every time you touch the throttle". But maybe I'm wrong. I've seen them on the street, and they aren't always on the back wheel only. You're seem to be exaggerating, but I have no idea by how much. I get that they are more wheelie prone than the Street. My reasons for the Speed over the Street are: Slightly more space for the rider and smoother power delivery. That's about it. Those seem to be fairly common themes in the Speed vs. Street threads, but they could be wrong. I need to arrange a couple of test rides. I would be happy to have a Street instead, for less money, if it suits my needs and wants.

I returned to motorcycling this year after 26 years away. No real reason to be away. I just sold my bike and quit. I flirted with it again for the past 15 years or so, then this year bought a new 2014 Triumph Bonneville. My thoughts thus far follow. Good things: I am really glad that I started riding again. I enjoy it more than I remember. I love the Bonne. It may not be the right bike for me long term (more later), but it's nice. It gets more looks than the other bikes nearly everywhere I go, and that is fun for me. The Bonne does everything reasonably well. Nothing great, but everything well. It is an easy ride. It's just easy to ride around anywhere. (Unless you're on the freeway at 75+ with lots of large traffic. More on that later also.) Room for improvement: At 75 mph and up, with lots of large traffic on the freeway, it is a bit of work on the Bonne. I can do it (did it today), but there is a better tool for that job. (That is with the Dart Classic windscreen, which helps A LOT. Previously it felt that way at about 60.) Upgrade the suspension. It isn't that terrible, but it could be a lot nicer. Upgrade the seat. It really needs that if you ride far often. What I want: Speed Triple. Years with round headlights and 1050 engine. Why: Because the Speed Triple is the reason that I first seriously started considering getting back into motorcycles. The first time I saw one, it had me, and that has not changed. I think it is the coolest looking motorcycle that I have ever seen, and it is nearly universally lauded as pretty fantastic to ride. Why did I write this: I felt like it. I've considered getting a Street Triple. Looked at one this week. I still may do that, but I don't know if that will do it for me. I'm pretty sure I need a Speedy. (Probably cross-posting)

Before it arrived, I found one on Craigslist in light tint and bought that one. Turns out that I like the light tint, so the dark tinted one is for sale. I only have a short period of time before I need to return it to BC if I'm going to do so, so please contact me soon if you are interested. I'll update the thread if I send it back. I don't have a pic because I haven't opened the box, and I don't intend to unless absolutely necessary. I stopped at this last week for the first time. Sadly, my bike was in the shop for its 600 mile service. The weather looked very threatening, though the rain did stay south of us. There were maybe 8 bikes, which I think was pretty good considering the weather. (I got there around 6:30 and left at 7:15) I know they got a lot of bikes when they were on Grandview Avenue. The Grandview Avenue businesses didn't want them there, apparently worried about their precious parking, so they moved to Hofbrau Haus. It's a nice spot. I would guess there are plenty of bikes when the weather is better. As it was, about half the bikes were Triumphs, so I was pretty happy

Welcome. The above, from Whaler, I feel is important. For some reason, most of the bikes at the MSF course were cruisers like this, with forward controls. A few were standards, Suzuki TX250U's, and very few dual sports. I recommend that you get to the class early and choose one of the standards or dual sports. I rode a TX250U, and I loved it. It was like a miniature version of my Bonneville. I was in Xenia for the first time last Sunday. Turned right and rode to Yellow Springs, then Springfield, then back toward Columbus. The roads just started to get a little curvy when I turned, so I'd like to go back and explore further sometime. Enjoy the course and the site, and ask lots of questions.

I did buy a pair of gloves last Saturday. I think they are the Storm model. $29 and really quite nice. I may go get a pullover or something if they still have them when I make it over that way.

Yep. I bought a similar set recently on clearance. They aren't nearly as nice, but I'm having trouble justifying buying another pair. If they had the "regular" type leather gloves in my size, I'd have bought them for sure.
