  1. Wow, that's horrible. I thought they had sand traps and other things to slow the cars down before they hit the wall head on.
  2. I think that's wrong. At least it's an option in 2009...
  3. It weighs more than the GT500, but is still stops in a shorter distance and has better weight balance (even though it's still a pig). As for the power/wieght difference, there is already a S/C kit out for it. I'm not sure why you think it needs larger rear tires. It seems to hook pretty good to me. The 6-speed comes in the 2009 model year.
  4. The new Camaro is a MUCH smaller car than the Challenger. It will no doubt weight less. *(I'm probably the only one on this forum that has had both parked side-by-side, sat in both, and driven every configuration of Challenger)
  5. Traverse City and Torch Lake are supposed to be very nice. I haven't had a chance to get up there though.
  6. +1 If it's at Auto Assets it's his old car. (At least I think they had it for sale again) Be sure to check the floor pan for rust.
  7. The problem is is takes a lot of energy to perform electrolysis. Yes, you could use solar or wind power to create the H2 from water, but you would get much more value out of putting the electricty straight into your car. There's an interesting presentation on Martin Eberhard's blog (http://www.teslafounders.com) comparing the different technologies. (The bolg is titled "Focus Green" if you want to look for it on his web site.)
  8. They donated a bunch of cars to universties, but they stripped the motor and controller out of them. I believe they were allowed to do whatever they wanted with them, including rebuilding it with new components. I think the EV1 was around 8 seconds 0-60. The Volt will not be marketed as a sports car. Think Mini. Take a look at the Saab 9-X BioHybrid if you want an idea of what the body will be similar to (according to rumors). AJ - Yeah I know the classes they make you guys take. But from a mechanics prespective the Volt SHOULD be a much simpler car to work on than the Hybrid trucks. It should also be much easier to diagnose a problem on the Volt.
  9. Technically they should be much simpler than a Hybrid Tahoe.
  10. Oh yeah, I forgot about the 3-wheeled vehicle loophole. I'll believe Aptera's claims after I see the test results. There's virtually no crumple zones to absorb an impact. Hell, even a Smart car has more energy absorbing material in the body. In an accident the forces on your body will be much higher. The entire interior had better fill with airbags.
  11. Good luck passing government crash tests. pdqgp - Supposedly the chemistry of the A123 Systems battery is much more stable than other LiIon batteries out there.

  13. Please do not use the term "everyone" when you have no idea how anyone feels. Who cares if he "wasted his money" on his Grand Am turbo. It was his money and I'm sure he learned a lot from the experience, which may have helped him get where he is today. Hell, if I wanted to do a project and a bunch of know-it-all's like you told me 'it was stupid,' I would do it just to try and prove you wrong.
  14. I saw one of those in Novi, MI one day. Some old guy has it and daily drives it to work on Detroit roads! (According to the tech that was wokring on it)
  15. I just bought a house and lost all my free time I'll hit you up sometime though. I'm still waiting to get my exhaust manifold back...progress is slooooooowwwwww....
  16. Yeah. I've seen the images posted around but would someone clue me in?

Here's what the Magazine's had to say about the MSP:

The Sky has been ok. Mine was one of the first batches off the line so there are some things I would like changed/fixed. The rear diffs are the biggest issue, but there's a recall for that. Nothing is really "unreliable" about the car. Mostly they are comfort/noise issues. The 2.4's have ok power, but are torque monsters with a turbo. The 2.0 SIDI turbo's can't be beat for the price/performace ratio.

Thanks! Actually it is a cool car...in stock form. Once you start modding, it gets expensive quick (if you don't want to shoot a rod through the block or shear your diff in half).

Quite a few LSD's have broken. When it breaks you can either go with a $1200 Quaife or weld the stock one together at the area it normally shears in half.
  21. Wow. If you had a harness bar why would you install the harness to the floor? (The worst way to possibly mount it...and there's a harness bar right there....) That car is disgusting.

essentially = exactly. There is much to be gained by tuning what's there, even without cranking the boost on it. It runs lean at the beginning, then maxes out WB02's at 10:1 A/F through the upper half of the rpm band. That's why all the MSP's have soot all over the back of the car. My guess is they did this because the intercooler is horribly inefficient. (It's from the European diesel Protege and is obstructed from almost any direct airflow, and it's tiny. That would be the first "power" upgrade I would do, but it would be mostly for reliability.) Have you had the car for a while or did you just buy it?
