The accident was reported just after midnight near Hayvenhurst Avenue, a fire department spokesman said. Police had no immediate information that racing may have been involved. A sports car was westbound on Roscoe, crashed and skidded across a set of railroad tracks, coming to rest upside down, Los Angeles police Lt. John Romero said. A body pinned inside the sports car was believed to be that of the driver. Three other bodies were found on or next to the roadway. As of 4 a.m., it was unclear if the other victims were pedestrians or if one or more had been thrown from the car, Romero said. Killed were two males and two females, he said. Police initially told a camera crew at the scene that the sports car struck at least two pedestrians. Police also were checking out reports that a motorcycle may have been involved, Newsreel reported. "There is no indication of another vehicle, but we are still investigating," Romero said from the crash scene. "It may turn out to be one was a pedestrian and the rest were in the car," Romero added. "It's too early to tell." Video from the scene showed sheets covered bodies in the sports car, on the road and on the side of the road, according to a RMG News camera crew. The sports car appeared to be a yellow Chevrolet Corvette. "The debris field is from Balboa to about 250 yards west of Hayvenhurst," Los Angeles Fire Capt. Steve Ruda said, "and along the railroad tracks." No one survived the accident, Brian Humphrey of the fire department said. Police closed Roscoe Boulevard between Hayvenhurst Avenue and Balboa Boulevard, and that stretch of road near the Van Nuys Airport was expected to stay closed as late as 10 a.m. The road closing could affect Metrolink traffic, since the tracks cross Roscoe there, Ruda said. Romero advised commuters to avoid Roscoe by taking Nordhoff Street on the north side or Sherman Way on the south side. Authorities hoped to have Roscoe re-opened by midday. Romero added that the railroad tracks that cross Roscoe have been re-opened as of 5:20 a.m. Trains on those tracks will have to slow down but delays should not be significant, Romero said. Los Angeles police with the Valley Traffic Division are handling the investigation.
