Don't wanna mail my crap to Jet Hot - anyone know of any place in Columbus or anywhere in Ohio that ceramic coats exhast stuff and turbo pipes? Thanks, Don

I need a front (timing) cover for a Fox body 5.0 - anyone have one you might let go for cheap? Email: don@lasotaracing.com Thanks

Actually, it's not the Mod Shootout - it's Smackdown - open to any domestic car, no matter how fast or slow. Starts at 9:00am, I think it's $40 for all the runs you want. It's a Ford event, but not limited to Fords, the past few years a Firebird and a T type have been the quickest car there. That'll change this year because Dave King will be there and maybe James H. 5.0 Magazine will be there covering it.

Block, crank, oilpan, oil pump, pistons, and rods from my 140,000 mile Mustang - you can still see crosshatch on the cylinder walls. Ran fine while it was in, but I guess it needs a refresh. Pick it up for $200. Email: don@lasotaracing.com

Mac Long tube Headers for 94-95 Mustang GT with 5 speed or automatic. 1 5/8" primaries. There is an extra 02 sensor bung on the passenger's side header. Also included will be an X pipe that will bolt right up to it and onto a standard catback system. $230 for all of it. Don't post and expect a reply as I don't get on here very often. I ran water injection for a while - if you don't - or can't have an intercooler, it's the best way to cool the intake charge at boost levels over 8#. By itself, it will cost, not add HP, as Renner said, it will let you add boost and timing. And I agree with him - if you run out of water or the system fails, you are in trouble. I did a homemade system and documented it on one of our websites - here: http://home.columbus.rr.com/dlasota/page3.htm

Hope you weren't referring to us, because if you are, you should do your homework before you blather on about something you don't know about. Here's a little tidbit that you may not know, we also work directly for SCT - I do a lot of things, including all of their documentation and tutorials. And we also travel around and provide training to other SCT dealers, teaching them to use the software, and how to tune a car properly. IMHO, that's a pretty stout qualification, plus there are other things I could list. If you weren't referring to us, then sorry - nevermind. BTW: Ken and Gene of MD Motorsports/Apten Performance are terrific, they do know what they are doing, and run an honest shop. They are good friends of ours and we recommend people that are around Cinci go to them. But Columbus also has people that know how to tune Mustangs - and we'll soon have software for GM and Chrysler. Help me understand how an in-line fuel pump pumps more fuel...
Don 95Vert replied to excell's topic in Tech and Tips
Sometimes it helps to picture these things in everyday situations. Think of a garden hose delivering water with no restrictions. Then put your thumb over the end, partially blocking it. What happens? The water shoots farther because the pressure is increased. But it's obvious that unrestricted, the hose delivered a higher volume. -

No offense intended - I was just adding to the good tech in here. No need for the sarcasm. -

If that were true, than every time you increase fuel pump size, you'd be running pig rich. It just doesn't happen. On a return style system the FPR trims fuel to keep a constant FP. On a returnless system, a fuel rail pressure sensor measures pressure drop across the injectors and then sends data to the ECU to trim voltage to the FP - on returnless systems you have to use a turbine style FP because they can more accurately vary operation rate. When you add an FMU to the return style system, it raises FP to the injectors by tricking the FPR by a fixed ratio and makes the injectors act bigger. On a normal system, the fuel is controlled by injecor pulsewidth, not inceasing pressure to the injector. I'm sorry, but their calculations are basic engineering facts and are VERY correct. -
Could be a lot of things. Are you sure it's not pinging? Sounds like rocks in a can. If it is, run a code check and look for blown off hoses etc. Could be transmission, U joints or rear end. Any problems with any of tthose parts in the past??? Good Luck! Don

If you took my reply as rude, I'm sorry, wasn't meant to be, I knew of no other way to convey that your price was too high for me. No rude intentions.

My car passed a random state inspection by the state highway patrol. I had smoked license plate covers. I asked him if they were legal, because my wife got a warning about them from a Delaware County Sherrif's deputy a couple of months previously. He said there WERE legal. He said the law only states that the plates have to be visible, and he said mine were visible.

Drain the oil-if there is water in it-add a few quarts of kerosene, turn it over without starting it, let iot sit for a while, drain it. Then add 3 quarts of oil, turn it over without starting it, drain it. To be sure, I'd repat this, then fill it with oil. The kerosene will absorb the water.

Those values are from the EEC Tuner software-not all the tags from a Ford EEC are in the software, but enough to do a good job of tuning a car. To turn off the check engine light with an EEC Tuner you just turn it off where he highlighted it. It's a bit tougher changing the timing and fuel curves, but not too hard. Some people originally thought that turning off the function would automatically mod the curves-no one was really sure though-based on my experiences when I had my Tuner-turning off the function does not affect the timing and fuel curves.
-
Yep, a chip can delete the function so it won't throw a code, but then you also have to mod the timing and fuel curves to make them normal. It's real easy to do with an EEC Tuner.
-
Actually, there is nothing performance-wise to be gained by removing the EGR. It only functions during part throttle when the engine is warm. It does not operate at WOT. When it is functioning, it actually cools combustion temperatures (less oxygen). Additionally, the EEC adds timing and pulls fuel at part throttle to compensate for the inert gases the EGR is adding-so while YOU may not have problems, it will certainly make a car much more susceptible to pinging than a car with an EGR. I suggest he get one from a junkyard and clean it with carb cleaner.

Yep, it's an E40D. Thanks.

Anyone know of any good/inexpensive automatic transmission shops in Columbus? Rob's (rl) tranny went out in his Lightning. Thanks, Don
