  1. They seem to be testing things. China flew 9 planes in Taiwan's airspace earlier. Not unheard of, but horrible timing. China taking Taiwan would screw every western country really hard but especially the US. You think the global semiconductor shortage is bad now, wait until the country falls.

My wife's family, who are all from Taiwan and China are pretty split between "Oh shit this is really horrible" and "It was always going to happen, lets hope there's as little bloodshed as possible".

  2. I think a lot of us saw this coming, as forums in general have been running on fumes (no pun intended) the last few years.

Any time I got a new computer in the days before syncing your favorites with an account was a thing, the first shortcut I always setup was to CR. I still instinctively check it every day, as I have since I was 15.

Made so many life long friends here, and will still be around no matter where we all end up.

Now I gotta figure out how to export my project thread lol

  3. I was like 14 or 15 I think, didn't even have a license yet, and I Googled "columbus racing" like Otis, literally just looking for car stuff in Columbus. Loitered for a while, but eventually met Anthony at a small meet at the old old IPS Motorsports shop.

Ever since, made more friends than I can count. A lot of which are no longer with us, both literally and metaphorically.

I remember when I had an 89 Ranger that I bought from Sean's shop for like $500 that I was dailying as a freshman in College. I brought it to a Quaker meet, got the nickname Danger Ranger. When I got home, I couldn't log in to my CR account and I had no idea why. I simply guessed that my login name had changed to "Danger Ranger", and whaddaya know, I was right. ha ha. So many good memories.

  4. The clutch master that was in the car was old and crusty and leaky. It had to go, and I had a fresh one. I climbed my fat ass under the dash yet again, and unhooked the old one from the clutch pedal. I got the old one undone and fished out. I didn’t realize there was a paper gasket behind it, so I got creative and made my own. It doesn’t seem like its that important a seal.

  5. Hey, long time no see again. You’re not gonna believe this, but my wife got pregnant again. We lost that one too. Lets not linger on that, but thats where I’ve been. I think I’ve come to the conclusion that at some point sooner rather than later, I will have to part with the 944 to help cover some of the bills we have accrued during the last couple of years. 944 prices have shot up, and LS swap ones in particular pull a premium. That said, I don’t plan to do so until I get it running and get to drive it a bit.

I got back to it this weekend. I’ve started to try and finalize some of the wiring around the car. I’ve rerouted things that I had hanging out of the engine bay back under the dash. I soldered the temporary connections I had made for the tachometer. I didn’t leave myself tons of meat, but as the picture shows I made it work. I also put heat shrink on the unused side just so it isn’t rubbing around on anything it shouldn’t be. I’ll work on cleaning up the rest of the wiring probably in the next post.

I turned my attention to the clutch and brake master cylinders. Things are tight thanks to the hydroboost setup. My first problem was that one of the ignition coil standoffs was bent over from hitting the hydroboost unit when we lifted the engine into the car in Sean’s shop. I wasn’t sure how to properly address this, so I snuck the sawzall in there and cut off the stud. I am still looking for a cost effect coil relocation system for the driver side.

The swap kit comes with this machines metal dowel to adapt the hydroboost unit to the Porsche brake master, but I am not sure which direction it goes in. One has a groove in it, so I am sure thats probably important. Going to ask the Porsche swap groups for more info.

  7. After I got the car running again, I wanted to go back to getting the Oil Pressure sender wired back up. Not knowing if this was going to work or not, I just loosely twisted the wires together to get it tested. I will clean this up later when I finalize more of where the LS harness stuff meets the Porsche Harness. 4 bar is 60-ish psi, looks like its working alright for a beat up truck motor.

  8. Meanwhile, in 2021....

This is the first time I worked on the car since last year. The intake manifold was off, I don't remember why, maybe to make accessing the oil pressure sender easier? Its one of those situations where you come back to something after a long time and its like picking up some other person's work. Either way, I really wanted to hear it again, so I slapped it back together and gave it a crank. Battery was super dead, charged and reconditioned it overnight. I must have sealed some vacuum leaks or something because it runs alright on its own now without me touching the throttle.

  9. Unrelated but sorta related to the build, around this time I procured a 2002 Tahoe from my Father in Law that I am so madly in love with I sold my 17 Civic to Carmax. I felt nothing for that car lol. This thing has been a little project in itself, I’ve done lots of stuff to it. Replaced all the speakers, replaced the factory Sub with an upgraded one, installed a Chinese 10 inch android head unit and back up camera, installed a dash cam as well. Its pretty awesome. May ruin it with a turbo kit some day.

  10. I ordered a new Porsche oil pressure sender, and an adapter to help it fit in the GM location. At first, I ordered the wrong size, because of course I did, but I go the right one eventually: M16x1.5 Male to M18x1.5 female. Thread that in to the engine, thread the Porsche sender in to that, wire it back up to the lines that you cut like an idiot when taking the old harness out.
