  1. I left for Defiance around 5 AM, which meant I made it back around noon, and that means we had a whole half a day to not waste and do work. We broke the car loose from where it was sitting in the back lot of Northend Wrench, and dragged her around with Sean’s truck. I focused on draining and unhooking stuff while Sean did some work on his new Outback. I basically got it to the point where we needed to pull it, and Sean came over to help after he finished up. We had some issues with figuring out what was holding the clutch to the factory torque tube, but after some YouTube viewing we figured it out and Sean got the pin that holds the clutch fork out. The last thing that was holding us up was the steering shaft. It clearly had not been apart since 1985. After heat and hammering and heat and hammering and destroying my steering rack, we we were able to drop the subframe enough to sneak the engine out. Its got a really funky slant 4 design that seems to hit on absolutely everything. It took quite a while to unhook everything and fish the harness out without cutting things I thought we would need, but we finished up around 9:30 and dragged the car back behind the shop. (Some photos by Mike Luong who came to visit)
  2. Alrighty! Here we go! Its been surprising difficult to find a decent used engine where the person selling it was responsive and would answer questions I had. However, I did eventually find a pretty nice looking DOD 5.3 aluminum engine that I was really happy with the price, and arranged with the guy to get it the following Saturday in West Salem. I borrowed the truck from Sean’s shop, drove an hour and a half…and he didn’t show up. Also didn’t answer any of my messages after that. Thanks asshole. I went back to Facebook marketplace, and finally got a guy with an OG 99 4.8 with 4l60e attached for $500. Perfect! Following weekend, May 11, 2019, I made 2 hour trek to Definace, and picked up my engine. Ironically, this guy lived about half a mile from the Defiance GM plant where they make Gen V stuff. I took a few touristy pictures since I was there.
  3. **REPOST FROM Dec 28, 2017** The Plan: Build a bulletproof reliable warm weather toy for a little money as possible. Basically something that I can roll to Cars and Coffee, then go to an autocross and hopefully some track days. The Swap: More than likely a truck LS of some kind. I am not even opposed to LT1's (with LS coils obviously, opti lol) but the swap kits are a little harder to come by. I am going to buy a complete Texas Performance Concepts swap kit. This includes adapters to make the 944 torque tube adapt to a C6 bell housing with appropriate clutch components, oil pan, mounts, everything. I have to wire and plumb it myself obviously, and will probably use one of the 2893129038 services that strips down truck harnesses. I want comfort too, so I am going to do everything I can to make the AC work. I will probably be asking for advice from guys here a lot. Murica stuff is fairly new to me, which I am excited about learning new things, but will need pointed in the right direction here and there.
  4. **REPOST FROM Dec 28, 2017** This has been in the works for a while, but things have been on hold while I deal with the Legacy. Thats about to be wrapped up soon and up for sale. I won't really dive in to it full on until the Legacy is sold, though. Bit of history, for a hot second my dad was in to Porsche 924's and 944's. He had come in to possession of a Porsche 924S (924 with a 944 engine). He had intention of turning it in to a rally car, because obviously, but never got there. He was working on a family friend's fleet of Porsche's at the time as he was the local German car expert. Then he got sick and I don't really remember what we did with it, but eventually he passed away. At the same time my dad had VW's, Audi's, and Porsche's, we always had Chevy pickups and vans for tow vehicles. I wanted something that was kind of a combination of all the vehicles we had when I was a kid. I had been shopping for a 944 for a while, but for some reason didn't look in the most obvious place, which is Sean's shop, owned by Porsche and VW enthusiasts. They had this one which had a snapped timing belt and they had been pulling parts off of. I agreed to buy it and give them the engine for a few more dollhairs off. Interior is pretty decent too minus the dash cracks which they all have it seems.
  5. Hey guys, I was delayed a couple of years in getting this going, but we are off to the races now. The next couple of posts are going to be reposts from the first thread, and then after that will be what we did this weekend from here on. I got married, my MIL passed away, and I changed jobs, so all of that added up to not getting anywhere for a while. We are back on track now though!
  6. Sorry I am asking a lot of questions on this stuff recently, I am about ready to pull the trigger on everything and I plan on moving fast so I have lost of questions to ask as a relative newcomer to LS stuff. I know in my swap the truck accessories hit the hood, and most people switch to some sort of car accessory drive. The goal of the swap I am doing is to basically do as little effort and spend as little as possible to make the car move under its own power with a different engine, so I am trying to reuse and repurpose as much as possible, leaning heavy on Matt Happel and the Sloppy Mechanics wiki/YouTube channel/Sloppy private FB page for information. I have seen brackets for relocating truck accessories from ICT, but I haven't see if anyone has actually used them? Or if anyone has the hookup on a whole accessory setup thats cool too lol
  7. I still maintain that HP Tuners is a hilarious ripoff. We are close to accessible open source tuning for GM ECU's, and they will pretty much instantly be irrelevant at that point.
  8. They have said that they plan on offering it for other platforms soon, starting with Coyotes and Hemis.
  9. A few guys on Sloppy have been messing around with this Chinese harness too, good things so far. This apparently is the same thing as the PSI harness, but without the middle man. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1997-2002-LS1-LSX-STANDALONE-WIRING-HARNESS-W-T56-or-NON-ELEC-DBC/33002100271.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.43.6d5e7820msqi93&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_7_10065_10130_10068_10890_10547_319_10546_317_10548_10545_10696_453_10084_454_10083_10618_10307_537_536_10059_10884_10887_321_322_10103,searchweb201603_52,ppcSwitch_0&algo_expid=eadff35c-c8db-4705-8a4e-08e44ad33e26-7&algo_pvid=eadff35c-c8db-4705-8a4e-08e44ad33e26
  10. ...and a display (with option to get the fancy big ass one), a real Bosch wide band, self tuning features, multiple inputs, and a clear zero effort upgrade path if you ever outgrow it! It really is hard to beat if you are like me and haven't already invested in HP Tuners. That said, I am not 100% sure what I am doing yet.
  11. I pick it up on Saturday morning after being ghosted last weekend on an aluminum DOD 5.3 (drove all the way to West Salem only for the dude to never show up and stop responding to messages). I really don't care what engine I end up with as long as it runs, and this one comes with a 4l60e that I can sell if anyone is interested.
  12. Gen 3 4.8, 99 i think, DBC, wanted to cut the harness down to just the bare minimum to run in a manual transmission application. The Terminator X is incredible value for everything that you get, which is why I have been considering it.
  13. Does anyone have a person that reworks LS harnesses? Trying to evaluate the cost of HPTwizzlers and a reworked harness vs just getting a Holley Terminator X kit.
  14. If there is such a thing as a name brand of chinaboi turbos, thats what On3 has evolved in to. I would put them just ahead of VS Racing in popularity. Good product. More than gets the job done and has more than proven all of their past critics wrong. I remember when On3 got nothing but hate for selling Chinese turbos, now thats the only thing people run, especially in the junkyard LS world.
  15. Does anyone have any information on making power steering lines or have experience with doing it? What about any local hydraulic shops? I will need some lines made for a system that will include a GM LS Pump, a Mustang Hydroboost, and a Porsche 944 steering rack. Thanks!
  16. We had an excellent experience with 2 Men and a Truck in December when we moved, everyone was quick and very gentle with the stuff we had them move. We ended up tipping them very well because we had such a good experience.
  17. about damn time, a mid engined corvette has been rumored for how many years?

  21. Have a good day, brother Unless your birthday on FB is an April Fools joke, in which case just have a good day in general.
  22. This. Mail it back and make them do their part. Thats not on you, especially to ask someone to risk their license.
  23. Only the seller needs to get the title notarized. Both parties do not need to be present. All they need is your name and address. Any bank will do it for free if the seller is a member.
