  1. Sorry gents, still waiting on the Legacy to sell. Just doing tons of reading and research. Watching lots of Sloppy Mechanics and the like, taking tons of notes. Deboss Garage's Audi build for the YouTube Project Car Challenge was 4.8 guts in an aluminum 5.3 block (with 2 compound International turbos, for a total of 4 turbos, not that I'm doing that lol). I am still leaning towards a 4.8 anyway solely because they are everywhere and dirt cheap, and everyone is saying they are more rev happy which is more my style. I have my eye on some complete vehicles to use as donors. I was wondering if getting a 4.8 and transplanting everything to an aluminum block would be worth it. The weight difference is about 90 lbs from everything I have read so far, and I don't want it to be super understeery if I can help it. Of course, there are other ways of dialing out stuff like that. 3. Like doing or enjoy overall? Like I love Rally, grew up around it with Dad doing it and enjoy watching/following it now, but don't have the resources to do it myself yet. Autocross is what I do mostly myself, but want to get in to HPDE's when the Porsche is done.
  4. Sorry more engine shopping questions. I've been keeping a close eye on the local market (and up near Lorain, Ohio where I travel for work a lot) to buy when the time is right, since one of the goals of this little experiment is to spend as little as possible. How do you guys feel about 4.8's? They seem to go a smidge cheaper than the 5.3's and there could always be a snail involved down the road. Also, where is the best place to find the lower profile accessories and intake mani?
  5. $10 jeans are the real hero in this story
  6. Auto Glass Now Dirt cheap and they do an excellent job 4310 Westerville Rd, Columbus, OH 43231
  7. Fair points all around. Anyone got an LS style intake setup that won’t cost me 70 bajillion doll hairs ? Maybe even a trade or two?
  8. Still been looking around for different things. The local market for truck motors is all over the place. You have the usual "I NO WUT I HAV" people, and there are other things to consider like having to buy the intake and what not for a LSX for hood clearance which based on the local prices I have seen are literally as much as the engine. LT1's on the other hand, are dirt dirt dirt cheap and you don't need to change anything to make it clear the hood. I am not saying I am going to buy one or not, but what are the downsides to an LT1 aside from Optispark, which the internet tells me isn't a problem anymore especially if you use a converter box to use LS ignition components?
  9. Anyone have a recommended VPN?
  10. Not sure what this has to do with Powerline Ethernet....
  11. Heard stories about this in apartment type applications. Never had a problem personally at my house. Low latency even.
  12. I had a powerline ethernet backed wifi network in my garage, had its own SSID "TorettosSpeedShop" lol http://www.microcenter.com/product/431924/AV500_Powerline_Kit_with_WiFi_N_Extender_TPL-410APK_(v10R)
  13. Most people only have internet now and as a result most ISP's have raised prices to offset people that don't have cable anymore. We just switched to Spectrum at the $65 100mbps tier and are paying less than we were paying for only 50mbps on AT&T. I know for a fact because we looked at it, that Spectrum has a $29 internet tier if you also bundle $29 cable and $29 home phone (old people lol).
  14. Discovery tends to buy 'New Media' companies and dismantle them (Revision3, Defranco Inc, TEN). What will likely happen is what always seems to happen, the current employees all stick together and form a new YouTube channel or network on their own when they figure out that their personalities are the asset and not the names like "MotorTrend". That said, its been really fun seeing Tony develop as a host. He was really rough around the edges at first and pulled tons of hate, but really started to grow as an on screen personality not long after.
  15. I am. I've chosen what I've chosen because by now to say these swaps have had all the kinks worked out is an understatement. There are stories left and right of people who have done the whole swap start to finish in a weekend.
  16. I may ask this info in a separate thread, but wanted to post here first. Is there a reliable resource for finding out which vehicles came with what engines so I can easily look for aluminum block engines quicker? I am tempted to just find the first beat dick work truck I see on craigslist. Second, does anyone have a hookup on auction cars and/or wrecked cars?
  17. I’m sure the headers that come in the TPC kit will be just fine. I would rather not give any money to Overpiced Hybrids.
  18. Thanks everyone! I firmly believe in “one thing at a time”, so we’ll start tearing in to this as soon as the Legacy is sold. Waiting on that to come back from getting detailed.
  19. lol and on the streetview. Peek a boo.
  20. In my experience, usually cheaper actually.
  21. Its on the list, there are companies that just sell the LSD to install as well. Nothing is off the table. Priority 1 is making the car run. The transaxles are super quick to change so thats not going to be a problem when the time comes.
  22. I hope to, but honestly its going to come down to whats accessible and affordable.
  23. Thanks! I am excited to tackle something like this. I wouldn't say I am bored of Subarus, but I just want to try something else for a while. I don't know if there is like a hot place to find engines/harnesses/computers, but if anyone has suggestions I am all ears.
  24. The Plan: Build a bulletproof reliable warm weather toy for a little money as possible. Basically something that I can roll to Cars and Coffee, then go to an autocross and hopefully some track days. The Swap: More than likely a truck LS of some kind. I am not even opposed to LT1's (with LS coils obviously, opti lol) but the swap kits are a little harder to come by. I am going to buy a complete Texas Performance Concepts swap kit. This includes adapters to make the 944 torque tube adapt to a C6 bell housing with appropriate clutch components, oil pan, mounts, everything. I have to wire and plumb it myself obviously, and will probably use one of the 2893129038 services that strips down truck harnesses. I want comfort too, so I am going to do everything I can to make the AC work. I will probably be asking for advice from guys here a lot. Murica stuff is fairly new to me, which I am excited about learning new things, but will need pointed in the right direction here and there.
