For the most part, I don't plan on rebuilding whatever I find in the junkyard. However, the head will be removed from the bottom end for work, and a Ford Motorsports head gasket will be installed. If I had to rebuild the bottom end, It wouldn't take any time at all, and if it comes to me having to build my own 2.3t shortblock, I am willing to pursue that also. Edit: and Matt, I am sure that when I get my engine, the PM's will start flying . I have an engine stand ready to go.

Bill, here is a video of a stock motor in a Merkur. They all look pretty much the same, except the Thunderbird Turbocoupe had a small intercooler between the turbo outlet and the intake mani, which replaced the hose in the above video. Also the valve covers differed slightly.

Little update. We toured some junkyards today, planning to leave one of them with a 2.3. Unfortunately, the ones we hit up only had NA 2.3's, so I am still searching for a motor. I also have been talking with the owner of that FC for when it would be convenient to pick it up, that may happen some time within the next 2 weeks. I still need to track down some way to tow it back....not a rental preferably.
