  1. How can they do this. What about if you had personal items in there. You guys who allow this are fucking phaggots. I've never had a car just taken away without me getting stuff outta it.

he can always go to the salvage yard and get his things. They "shouldn't" be moving with out permission. and most tow yards won't allow anyone to take it unless owner releases.

  2. You work for Progressive right? I do CCU claims and a few of the totals I've seen are crazy. A brand new Mercedes R350 got totaled after hitting a pole, started out repairable but after a couple weeks the estimate was up to $28k.

Also saw a one or two year old Nissan Armada that got struck by lightning, and fried something in the electrical system. Body was easily repairable, but after 3 weeks of diagnostics the dealer said it would be nearly $20k in parts that they'd have to go through one by one before figuring out what was wrong.

yes. and damages can add up fast when a car goes to a shop. Once you start taking parts off you always find more damage.

avenger - our estimates are the same whether the car totals or not. I am still required to write an acurate estimate.......

  3. 80% of KBB is what they use for the total point (well, most insurance companies do). It's AMAZING the amount of "hidden" damage they can find on a car when it's in that magic 7-15 year range...where they aren't new, but aren't a "Collector" car yet. They'll probably total it by quoting new OEM parts from their tame bodyshop to get the price of the repairs up.

most insurances are using a market value, not book values. and Ohio is 100% of the value (west virgina is 75%). but you have to take into consideration what the salvage value is (ie. worth 5k and salvg is 1k, then the estimate only has to be 4k for it to total.) And insurance companies will right whatever parts are most cost effective whether is a total or not, they want to do whatever is more cost effective.

with this car, it will bring in good salvg value and the parts are not cheap and not much aftermarket or used available so the damage will add up fast.
