  1. The LS swap on my IROC should be done in a month or so and then my plans are to absolutely drive the wheels off of that car. It has been about 30 years since I daily drove a 3rd gen in the summer and I am hoping this is the year that I will start doing that again. I also am hoping to get to a bunch of shows with one of the Camaro's and really enjoy them as they have pretty much been garage art for the last few years!
  2. That's just gosh darn beautiful. Why not swap the hard top one instead? It'll already have the pedals and like.. hardtop bro. Racecar.

     

    I really prefer the T-Tops for cruising. The two hardtop cars are pretty rare so am keeping those mostly stock. The T-Top was an LG4 car so it REALLY needed a motor swap. Truth be told that at some point I will part with one or two of them as it really is hard to really enjoy them as much as I would like to. They are garage queens and it is all I can do to get a tank of gas run out of them each year.

  3. Over the past year and a half I have been collecting all the parts that I need to complete an LS swap in my 87 IROC-Z. I had a buddy who was going to take care of it for me as I have been planning this for years, but never seem to have the time to get it done. I just about have all the parts but due to personal issues, he is no longer going to be able to do the swap. Wondering if anyone knows any good places that I could take the car and parts to get the work done? While I am sure there are some little pieces that I may have missed, I have all the major components included a rebuilt motor, trans, Holley Terminator, all mounts, etc. While I would love to do this swap myself, I simply do not have the space or time to get it done in any realistic timeframe. Normally I would just let it sit on the shelf and wait for my buddy to get his situation sorted out but he is not sure how long that will take plus I have a warranty running out on the motor and trans that I bought. If I can find someone who will reasonably do the work, I also have all the brake and suspension parts to upgrade the car so it would be safe with the new powerplant. Car has a lot of sentimental value to me and really want to make sure whoever does it is trustworthy and does a really good job as I have plans to drive the wheels off of this car and reliability is the #1 priority. Appreciate any leads on a good place to get the work done.
  4. These guys were quick. Came with rollers so the lift can be moved around.

     

    Most of the 110 lifts also spec a 20amp circuit. Something to look out for. From what I have read most people don't have any issues running on a 15amp.

    Nice! I called the place that you got yours at, but would not deliver to Columbus. Found another place that will ship to the depot down off Alum Creek and will just pick it up and assemble myself. Sounds like it is several weeks out (which is good since I will be on vacation for a few weeks in a week or so). I did see the spec on a 20amp. I am running some 220 out to the garage later this summer for a heater, so will run a dedicated 20 amp circuit then. Hoping the 15 will work to put it up and down a few times until then.

  5. You might already be doing this but, definitely get multiple quotes on the garage track move. I got three quotes and the price difference was around 1k between the highest and lowest quote. This was all for the same jackshaft door opener. So it was just labor mark up that was the variance.

     

    Appreciate the heads up. I had thought about calling around to more places. Care to share who supplied you with the better pricing?

    The garage door becomes a problem if the opener is mounted too low. Brent installed a jackshaft-drive opener which eliminated the common residential-style opener.

     

    Great info here. Yep, in looking at my garage, this would definitely be an issue. Ceilings are over 10ft so I think I am good there, but that was something I was looking at trying to figure out...

  7. No swap is ever cheap unless you fab everything yourself and have access to free extra parts.

     

    Absolutely! I know and have talked with folks that have done this swap for under a grand, but I prefer not to use a junkyard engine with 200K miles and basically rig everything up. This swap was done with the emphasis on reliability and longevity, so basically everything is either new or rebuilt. I wanted a car that I could drive and enjoy. We all know 3rd gens are not known for their breathtaking performance (certainly not anymore), so it will be nice to have something that will be quicker than the average minivan. Definitely not building a race car, just something with a little get up that is also fun to drive. When done, the entire brakes, suspension and complete driveline will be updated so it has been done as a complete package. I always lived by the motto of figuring out what you think it will cost and then doubling it, but this project has tripled it and then some! Oh well, that is cars for you!

  8. I am going to set my goal to something that I should be able to achieve and say that I just want to finish up the 6.0 LS motor swap in the IROC. I have collected nearly every part and the motor and trans are coming back from the engine and trans shop so I should get all of that by the first of the year. The rear is at the powercoaters and that should also be done next week then back to the rear guy for assembly. Then, the fun begins (along with the million other things I realized I missed and still need to buy most likely). I hear all the time how cheap these swaps are supposed to be, but I definitely have found that absolutely is not the case if you want them done right!
  9. I have an old 9 bolt Borg Warner rear from an 89 IROC-Z that I want to see if I can get checked out and possibly repaired if needed. I know from research, they use Posi cones unlike the typical 10 bolts that they put in the majority of these cars. Anyone have any experience with a good trust worthy shop local that can do this work? I would not be concerned if it was a typical 10 bolt, but I know these are a little different. I would also love to get the housing blasted and painted while it was there too. Figure the car is going in for a total mechanical overhaul this winter and want to just get this freshened up while it is all apart.
  10. I will start off by saying that I hate taking my car into any dealership!! Now with that being said, I have a 2018 Camaro SS with the A8 transmission. These have had service bulletins for the transmissions because they have a known issue with TC shutter. While mine has not demonstrated this behavior, I also only have 3k miles. I would like to get it in and get the fluid flushed with whatever GM's latest "magic" fluid is and handle this before any damage is caused to the TC. Now with that being said, anyone know a good one that would just do this service without having to fight with them about it. I know tons of other Camaro owners have just taken their car in and told them that it is doing it to get the service, but I also know some dealers want to recreate the issue before they will do the TSB. I have been told that the latest TSB doesnt require diagnostic, but I also know how difficult some dealers can be too. I just want to protect my investment from a known issue. Anyone have experience with a good dealer that will just do the right thing and flush my trans without a fight?
