  1. Jono, have you tried calling me? I have a missed phone call from Enid, OK yesterday...

I've got 59.9 hours...I needed to do my solo cross-country, verbal exam and written exam. Because it's been a few years (2015) since I've last flown I'll have to definitely do a few hours of day/night flying to get caught up as well. My old CFI is ready to go again with me after holidays.

Would love to connect when you're back in town! :)

Wasn't me, thats creepy though haha. Ive had to change phones a few times, I dont think I even have your number anymore.

Recency is vital, you need to get flying! Where were you flying out of? One of these days I want to get a tailwheel endorsement, but finding time for the GA flying is tough

    Jono

  2. Have fun with the Bosch fuel injection system! Electrically these cars require high maintenance, and the mentioned fuel injection system can and probably will be a pain in the ass at 36 plus years old. I remember having issues with the ignition switch, window switches, headlight motors, brake warning system, and headlight switch. The older the fuel car got the more the injection system would act up, lots of old rubber parts and old switches and specific fuel pump relays to turn the pump off during deceleration. I had an 81 euro spec S and it was impressively fast when I got it in 2000 or so.

Good luck, hopefully it works well.

I'm replacing all the fuel rubber as we speak, gotta avoid those famous 928 fires. Luckily I bought the car off an avionics tech, he had already fixed a lot of the issues you just mentioned. But I'm expecting to be chasing wires at some point anyways

  3. You know.

Why do you and I have a penchant for oddball shit? You're worse than I am, though. Good luck with it. :)

You know I hate pumpkin spice, I gotta keep it weird.

Thes 928s are really spectacular cars. Forget the LS swap, take your time and work through all the issues the Porsche v8 is going to throw at you - it's going to be a lot but nothing is hard and once done the car will be super reliable.

While I am usually an autolol guy too, the fact that you have a 928 at all is special. There is a group here in columbus called the buckeye landsharks, they are tight knit and only touch these cars, there always seems to be at least one member at cars and coffee in the summer. http://www.928buckeyelandsharks.com/

the thing about the 928 is, in the era that it was produced there weren't a lot of 150mph all day grand tourers being made. It was basically this car, the jaguar xjs, Astonmartin V8 vantage, and the Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 and that is pretty much it until 1984 when the testarossa and c4 corvette came along (and neither of those had back seats). So it is in good company.

As a racecar, the 928 made a better endurance racer and long distance road rally car than a hardcore sprint racer. As a street car this translates to a good "Adventure car" to take long distance high speed trips with and just have fun

Dude that's some great info, I'll definitely check them out. I always liked the looks of these cars but the more I learn about them, the more I like. Plus Jeremy Clarkson owned one, so they've gotta be good

  4. I always liked those cars until a friend bought one and told me how big a heap of shit it is. It wasn't in great condition from the start though, so there's that.

So what are your plans/goals? Just get it running and enjoy it? Mod it into a track car?

Eh, unfortunately it's auto. But there are a good supply of 5speeds out there to see out if I ever get bored.

It's my extra car so step 1 is get it running, then step 2 is figure out what else I want to do with it, and step 3 is profit.

Any ideas? (Besides a Vette Ls and 6 speed swap, that is already on the list somewhere)

  5. Ok someone educate me. I've drive from Oklahoma to Alabama in my truck and have never seen #1 or #2 diesel. What's the difference? Every station just has tax or no tax diesel. I have seen ultra low sulphur vs biodiesel blend, but never seen them as a choice, it's one or the other depending where you are
  6. Why is cargo so fun? Just curious.

Getting to see the world is just incredible, and there's something cool about showing up for a flight and deciding whether to eat lunch in spain or germany. Plus the mission changes with whatever you're carrying and it can be different every flight, have had some very meaningful trips that I'll never forget.

Did you ever have occasion to fly the T34C? I am curious how the Texan II stacks up against the old military bonanza. Years ago I had a chance to fly in a civilian converted T34C and while it was a rocket on takeoff an climb out, cruise felt kind of like a regular old A35 Banana. The bubble canopy was nice though.

BTW, what altitude were you at when those pics were snapped?

I never flew the T-34 but a handful of guys I fly with have. It's basically a pig compared to the texan. Same basic PT-6 turboprop but the texan has about 400 more HP. The T-6 cruise is definitely faster, but still lacks power above 15k.

We had a block altitude from FL220 to 230 for the pics/vid. The controller really hooked us up

  7. So I recently picked up a Powerstroke for a good deal and today decided to upgrade the sound system. Well, when I was hooking my power wire up to the driver side battery, I noticed when I unhooked the positive lead...I lost power? Should I ever lose power with just 1 battery disconnected? I thought they were parrallel and acted like just a big battery...

The main reason I ask is I've recently been having crank no start issues, fuel/oil pressure good, yada yada....but a jump fires it right up.

    What year? 6.0 or 7.3?

I'm fairly certain on mine (2006) if I unhook the passenger side I will lose all power, but the driver side I won't. I believe the driver side is only hooked to the passenger battery and not to any of the fuse blocks. So not sure depending on what year you have if its the same or reverse. So that means if the passenger battery is bad, then only the driver side is powering it and when you unhook it, everything will lose power.

Basically test them individually, never does any good to test the batteries together. If you drive short trips, maybe invest in a trickle charger to keep a charge on them.

  8. That's freaking awesome. What are you flying? I thought you were flying cargo planes full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong?

Flew quite a lot of dog shit for a few years. Now I'm flying the T-6, teaching all the new pilots. It's a blast, the T-6 is a freakin sports car, but I can't wait to get back to cargo.

  9. There is a PX at Rickenbacker Air Base. In the PX, there is an alteration shop. I haven't found any other place to trust my uniforms to in Columbus.

That's the last place I took mine to in Columbus, easiest way to do it without getting measurements screwed up. Of course it's been like 10 years since i've been there...

    Did it work out?
