Yes, that is a design flaw in the L36 engine/intake that causes fuel vapor to build up in the upper intake and causes said explosion. I believe it is a GM safety recall.

The motor pulls great, with excellent power and the transmission shifts firm and true. 4X4 works flawlessly, as does the trailer wiring and electronic trailer brakes (included). I kept meticulous service on this truck (as I do with all of my vehicles) and the following was performed over the course of my ownership: - Mobil 1 synthetic oil every 3000 miles with genuine Motorcraft Filters - Transmission and Transfer Case serviced yearly - All new front suspension components – April 2004 - New Autozone Gold alternator – August 2004 (lifetime warranty) - New front brakes – June 2004 - K&N Filter I’m religious about keeping my vehicles in top running order! The interior and exterior are in VERY good condition, with what I would consider to be less-than-normal wear. There are NO rips or tears in the interior, a few little imperfect spots here and there but overall in great shape. The exterior has very few flaws, a small dent (1.5”) on the passenger-side front quarter and a few little scratches and dings here and there. MUCH less than you would find on another 3/4 ton truck! In addition to the mechanical and beauty workings of the truck, I upgraded the stereo components with the following: - JVC CD (CD-RW compatible) player, AM/FM radio, MP3/WMA capability - Front Infinity perfect 3 ways - Rear Polk EX 3-ways I love to listen to music when I drive, and since I spent a lot of time in my truck I had to upgrade the factory stuff. The bed has a drop-in liner and a rubber mat for protection. Truck has factory running boards (which easily support my 230# weight ), factory alloy wheels, and many more options!
