  1. Just wanted to update you guys on this. I was able to work on it last night. When i took my wheels off. When i go to turn the drums, i can feel uneven drag, smooth for 1/3 turn and then it drags and then frees up again. So i took off the old drums and shoes looks great, clean up and thought i would test fit the new drums. So i put them on and started turning them, and they have a slight drag but even all the way around. So i thought well, let's see if it's just the drums. Did this to both side and took a test drive. Sure enough, smooth as can be now with just replacing the drums. Thanks again guys. Was just really odd to feel shaking on both pedal and steering wheel and it wasn't the front rotors. The ebrake test kinda confirm the rears, but like i said i've not work with drums before so wasn't sure. -D
  2. Ive only done front rotors and pads. Slided are good, i greased them as well. I will probably do drums next and go from there. If that doesnt do it, ill look at front end suspension. Thanks again all, -D
  3. Quick question. Car shudders when braking, can feel it in pedal and sometimes steering wheel from high speed. So I thought, front rotors and pads and I'm good to go. Did that last night, shudder still there. Rear are drums, so I want to get some thoughts on this. So I cruise up to about 30mph and use my ebrake to slow down, it shakes. Is this a valid test that the drums or shoes is the culprit? I've never swapped out drums or shoes before so I'm not sure what to look for if I was to take it apart. thanks in advance, -D
  4. Thanks for input guys. And i will mark the 770 off the list. Im a light gamer and mostly rpg or rts. Monitor is mostly to get more real estate on single monitor instead of using multiple.
  5. Hello, Im looking for a card to drive a single 4k monitor. Looking for best bang for the buck without going crazy on price. Looking for something like a r9 290 or nvidia 770, or maybe other possibilities if price is right. Thank you, -D
  6. Too bad i'm not ready for this yet. This is what i will be looking for in a bout a year. Bump and good luck with sale. -D
  7. I would take is all down and start over. If wood is good, just reuse. Get bigger screws and reuse old hole. I would also put adhesive on the wood to the concrete blocks. Something like liquid nail for added hold. -D
  8. Thanks guys. That helps. The starter on this car is down in the back of the engine. Not sure i would be able to hit it with a hammer if i was stranded. Haha. -D
  9. So yesterday my 03 Protégé 5 decides to not start. Just a click. Battery is only a couple months old. I tested it anyways and it was good. All connectors from battery looks good, no corrosion and tight. The click was coming from passenger side under the glove box (relay?). Now after 5 or 6 tries. It finally starts. And it's started every time since then (~10 more times). So is this sign of starter going bad? Would like to get this fixed now before it happens again, don't want to be stranded with two little ones in the back. thanks in advance, -D
  10. Typo. Meant to say mazdaspeed protege. I talked to a guy yesterday that had it done to his old P5. Said put money in savings till you have enough for a mazdaspeed 3. Its not worth it. Thx -D
  11. This car is what made me start this thread. I saw one on the road and got me wanting to look. This is very informative. So 2.0T over the v6? Thank you, D
  12. My 87 teg is a stick. I know how to drive, it is my wife. We swap cars sometimes. She drives a mini van. I tried teaching, it was not a good experience and she has no interest in learning. I'm sure if i bought a stick, she wouldn't care. But I would have to car pool her on some days if that's the case. May work, i don't know. Only way i found to learn, at least the way i did was buy a stick and drive it everyday till you get the hang of it. But yeah, i have the protege 5 now. I do like it, maybe i should look into getting parts from a mazdaspeed 3 (turbo, intake mani and whatever else is needed) probably be a better route. Don't have a great pic, but this is when i picked i up on Feb 2nd. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=924&pictureid=7982 Had alot of front end work that needed done. both wheel bearins, lower control arms, strut bar bushings, end links, outter tie rods, cv axle on driver side and seal. brakes/roters done as well. i never considered the volvo so that's a great suggestion as well. thanks guys, -D
  13. Hello, So in the past few years i've finally got myself to stop taking out car loans to buy a car. Just deal with cash. So recently i had 3 cars, my 87 integra that i bought due to it being my first car and I got it to remind me of the good ol days. I drive it on nice days, it's been well kept and condition is near perfect for it's year. I had taken out a loan to pick up an 05 RL due to the low interest. I then impulsively bought a 07 RDX a month later with cash. Well...after trying to sell the RL with multiple let downs from 5 potential buyers that i really thought i had sold, i ended up posting the RDX for sale and my idea was to just drive the one that don't sell and deal with something else later. Well...i ended up selling both cars the same day. I didn't lose any money on them and i had my eyes on a Venza that was available at that time. Well that Venza didn't work and i needed to find something to get by. So after looking at a bunch of different places in the 2 days that i had, i decided to pick up a cheap car to get me by. That car was a 03 Mazda Protege 5. Now that it's getting nice out, i'm getting the itch. Always say i'm not looking to pick up something right now, but somehow i end up doing so. So i've always bought Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, with a few Dodge and Chevy trucks here and there. This was my first Mazda. Besides my first 2 cars, i've changed cars just about every year. Most of the time i have 2 cars, and just go back and forth. My son will be out of pre school this year and start kindergarden so i'll be able to save more money for when i go to get my next car. So ideally by this time next year i should have able $10k for a ride. But who knows, as much as i don't want to do car loans, last loan i took out for $10k was at 1.24% for 24months. If a good deal comes up, i may go that route again. Sorry to be long winded. So i'm thinking i'm ready to go out of my comfort zone. Some things i'm looking for: 1. 4 door Hatchback 2. Automatic 3. Fun 4. MPG 5. Low/reasonable cost of ownership - aka maitenance that won't kill the bank I was thinking Subaru, but i've test drove a few newer models and the automatics were not fun at all. So now i've been looking at Audi A3s. 2006 - 2009 are around that price for around 90k miles. I don't know much about these other than what i read. So thought i would post this up early to get some ideas from you guys. thanks in advance. -D
  14. That's bad ass. Well done. Can't believe it's still here. Good luck! -D
  15. If you still need to get it done, hit up Andy (STarner) at Tire Discounters. He's out east though, it was a bit of a drive for me or i would have went there. -D
  16. I used Phil Alspach (614)888-8100. I have to say, it was fun talking with him. He's 77 and still races his rx7. He has a mint one that he bought brand new in his garage with under 50k miles. Always love meeting someone like this. Showed me pics of his old rides of what he raced. -D
  17. You still young. So splurging happens when ur still young (referring to the audi), but still doing it responsibly though. I remember doing the same thing when i was at 24. Got my first house and bought my is300 that was only 1 year old with 15k miles. That was my 2nd car. But yes, more you make usually means more you spend. If you can budget your money right and live within that, you can pay off your debt in no time. You learn as you get older (hopefully). 😁 -D
  18. You can get live tv with this as well. I've not done too much with that part, but i was able to watch some sports live on it when i needed to. There's alot of stuff here if you get bored and want to read. http://forums.tvaddons.ag/forums/35-LIVE-STREAMING-ON-KODI -D
  19. Depends on what you watch, have you looked into setting up something with Kodi? http://kodi.tv/about/ I'm currently running this on an Amazon Fire Stick TV. I've since canceled my cable. Works great for what i need. You can run it on just about anything, computer, smartphone, tablets, etc... -D
  20. This is a great thread, great read. And this. Same thing for us, i grew up on Charity Newsies clothes, they are a great organization and i give back to them when i can. Son of an immigrant, when we came over back in the 80s, it was 7 of us in a 2 bedroom apartment for 7 years with single income of 8k a year for a very long time I'm very impressed with how my parents always had food on the table and roof over our heads. It makes you very humble and appreciate everything in life. I've never carried any debts except for car loan and house (school loan as well, but paid that off 2 years after graduating). And in the last few years, i've now learn to try and not carry any loans but the house. So that's all i have right now. -D
  21. What about nashbar? I've not used them yet but have been looking at some of their lines. They do the 30 to 40% off thing a couple times a year, from what i've seen they seem to be pretty good for the price point. -D
  22. Sold 2 more. Only the Dunlop tire left. Up it goes -D
  23. Good stuff brother. Didn't know you did all that, very cool. Up for OP. Good luck with sale! -D
