Did you get the clog cleared? I have seen premature wearing down of pipes and sealants within close proximity of lights due to heat that can get trapped in the soffits, since there usually small and no real way to diffuse the heat. If you cleared the clog and you want to chance it, let it go. Unfortunately the stack carries bad gases to vent outside the home and any crack could let them into the home. Looks like your only option to check it out right is to tear into the soffit. If you take your time and do it right you can cut out an area in between studs and patch it back in, failry easy to do.

Doesnt sound good, I have seen some very lazy plumbers not seal the pipe joints on the stack in theory, water shouldnt get to them anyways. If I understand you, you were trying to force the water up the stack instead of down the drain?

Plus how hard can renters be? I have renovated rental properties for years. Shy of busting out windows, and damaging cabinets what else can they do. Most renters arent busting holes in drywall. Get a nice family to rent it and just assume if they move out that you may have to spend a few hundred fixing the place up. You can do wonders on a small budget. Plus the deposit of a months rent covers alot in repairs. I would literally spend less than $1000 replacing carpet, repainting, landscaping, and fixing odds and ends stuff when a customer of mine would by a new foreclosed property. I did all the work myself but in 2 days, the house could have been put up for sale and the owner would make $$$$$$$$$$$$

Spending 18 million dollars on a dealership at easton I am sure didnt help the bottom dollar. I would rather get a better deal from a new car dealer working out of a old double wide instead of trying to convince me that once I am out the door the marble layden(sp) office of a dealership helps me make my payments.
