  1. When the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail
  2. I'm no Lions hater, but I have to agree with the replay guys in ruling the pass incomplete. Johnson made no attempt to tuck the ball in after grabbing it (which would have clearly shown full control, and thus possession), he let the ball make contact with the ground in a way consistent with entrapment (which is also ruled an incomplete pass), and at 1:07 of the linked video, it almost looks like he's trying to grab the ball back after it's bounced off the ground. Actually, both teams of refs got it right... the guy on the field for ruling it a TD (plays like this happen so fast that you can't really tell, so you give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Same reason a tie in baseball goes to the runner, really), and the one in the replay booth, who can actually rewind and look at the play from multiple angles.
  3. Wait, so you're telling me that smoking bottle rockets is now hot?
  4. QFT. When living in Baltimore, I had that CB up any time I visited family in Cleveland. The detector was useless (stupid thing bleeped at just about anything), but the truckers never once missed a call.
  5. The franchise, like any well-entrenched bureaucracy, endures.
  6. Wasn't aware 32GB even existed... can't find it on NewEgg or Microcenter, either. What you need that sort of space on a micro for, anyway? Cell phone amateur hardcore?
  7. Groan. No. That barely cuts it, and doesn't get rid of the incriminating evidence. echo y|format c: Do this, and the RIAA will have to call in an expert at file system restoration at the very least. Or if you can connect to a BSD type system: dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/rsd_c bs=4096 That'll really hose things up, though usage of /dev/random will make it take longer than if you used something like /dev/zero. (though notice how I obfuscated the of part... don't want someone just typing it in to see what it'll do. UNIX doesn't ask "are you sure you really want to blow your own foot off," y'know.

  9. Have you actually called AEP to make sure they know the power's out?
  10. Someone's been watching too much SG-1 http://www.gateworld.net/sg1/graphics/206_header.jpg
  11. According to the tech who just replaced the outside unit at my apartment, the compressor/condenser units come pre-charged now. New refrigerants are a LOT more sensitive to overcharging than the old ones were, it seems.
  12. QFT... GF was telling me just this morning while we were waiting out the last of the supersoakers at Cedar Point that two provinces had come to blows with at least one dead over fishing rights in the Yellow Sea.
  13. I just realized there's another advantage, besides not being under 6' of dirt, killing the worms with embalming fluid, and feeding birds. There is absolutely 0% chance that I will ever return as a zombie!
  14. Any new dead rodents? Though I'm still trying to figure out how one shot can nearly tear a jackrabbit in half, while another doesn't even leave a mark.
  15. Pretty much... when I croak, it's not like I'll need that body anymore. Birds, fish, scavenging carnivores... whatever way you look at it, it's better than flushing it with carcinogenic fluids that require a sealed vault to keep from leaching into the cemetery.
  16. Whatever you get, especially if it's a former floor model, be sure to have the color and brightness/contrast properly calibrated.
  17. It's been 10 years since I had to think about this, hoping someone can refresh my memory of how this works. Background: GF's sister transferred title to their 20 year old beater to her so she has something to trade in when going car shopping after grad school's done with. Title transfer went fine. Registration still in sister's name, expires end-of-month. Car is subject to E-Check (Cuyahoga county), and that's where my head goes fuzzy... I can't remember if the process should be: - Take car to E-Check station with freshly printed title in GF's name, the gas wand is stuffed up the tailpipe, and she gets a cert says the car passed - Takes title+cert to registrar's office, is issued 30-day tags to be used until plates arrive in the mail == or == - Go to registrar's office, is given 30-day tags and an E-check voucher - Has car tested, car passes - Takes passing cert back to registrar, is given new 30-days to use until plates arrive == or == Something totally different. Thanks!
  18. Agreed... the so-called "flash crash" back on May 6 seems to have been caused by HFT systems attempting to act on an NYSE data stream that was lagging, and as anybody who has played an online game will testify, lag kills.
  19. You poke fun, but "charting" as you call it, or "Technical Analysis" as the big brokerages do, is what drives the vast majority of program trading. My idea here was to put it out there that this chart pattern happened before, is setting itself up again, and in an environment like this, it doesn't take much to cause more programs to issue sell orders than there are programs issuing buy orders. When that happens... *BOOM*... you have a stock market crash.
  20. You must have one of those double-short ETF's
  21. First it was Mole, now Karl Denninger's seeing it: Actually, Denninger posted that before Mole's chart... either way, not pretty
  22. I'm glad I'm not currently invested: http://evilspeculator.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/2010-07-01_TRAN_fractal.png
