you can try and tap a larger hex into it and try that. Sadly drilling it out really isn't much of a choice either since its already hollow for oil flow. Best bet is to pull the cam out and get another one with a new VVTi cam gear.

I think a lot of places are scared to touch those damned things lol. A buddy of mine had Ricart of all places do it (well, gaskets) and it wasnt THAT bad. They certainly stressed that if a stud snapped off in the head he was fucked. That was on a 2011 I think? (if those had the 5.4s still)

 

5.4 in a F150 ended in 2010 , 2011+ was the 5.0 for a v8

Traction control is insane on them and the agera, full steering at over 100mph whipping back and forth it’s unreal

These cars are pretty awesome ... right up until the timing chains make noise then they are almost a paper weight

Mine did this same shit , I cleaned it all up got a new plug and would have to toss a little starting fluid on there before it would turn over, after it turned over it ran like a champ ... after doing this like 5-10 times one day it wouldn’t start again and I said screw it and bought a self propelled electric one haha

be careful of F-150's... I had a '99 with under 100k miles and it rusted from the inside out (talking radiator core support rusted through and I had to zip tie the radiator to the jack that was mounted in the engine bay.

 

For sure and the bed rails ,cab corners and rockers rust out of the 04+ ones as well, on top of the 5.4 issues

good rule is 4/32nds difference max per most manufactures. I can tell you I have seen people not worry about it and put 2 new tires only on their subaru then get really pissed that the transfer case started binding up.
