  1. 200 yards is wild with the glock. I'm good for 1/10 at 150 yards on a 12"x8" silhoutte.
  2. It's easier sometimes to let the dogs meet off leash. If your holding onto your dog with the leash it may feel it has a job to protect you while it's on him. Most people tug there dogs back from smelling other people and dogs on walks which sometimes gives them the sense you don't trust other people and dogs.
  3. 2lbs of Hodgdon titegroup left at cabelas at 22 per lb if anyone is looking. Anyone know where I can get some Ramshot TAC/ have any comments on it. I need to start getting some .223 loads worked up and this seems like a good choice to use. I want to give it a go and I'm going to try some H335 which I've been able to find easily. Any other spherical powder you recommend? Looking at spherical since that seems to measure the most consistently in the dillon powder measure.
  4. I was all gung ho about night sights until I started looking at a quality set of BUIS for my AR. It seems like almost everyone is running black on black and not spending the extra 100 for tritium in them. The topic came up that you should always identify your target before firing in a LEO/self defense situation. To do that, you need a light. Well, I didn't figure a light mounted in front of my sights would make my sights visible so it was time to test it out. Turned off all lights, put my flashlight on it's lowest setting and flipped it on. I used the lowest setting to make sure it worked just in case my battery was running low. On my light my highest setting will drain a battery in less than an hour, when that happens it drops it to setting 1. What do you know, sights are clear as day and super easy to acquire with the least amount of lumens my light provides. Since I've shot these competitions and it's the most "stress" I've been under when shooting, I can say I don't think I need my sights for any "typical" self defense distance. I would say anything inside of 8 feet I'm point to shoot. Anything outside of 10ft I start to pay more attention to my sights. I still always practice using my sights, draw and don't fire til I find my sights. The more I draw and practice finding my sights the more intuitive it is to have them lined up perfectly from the draw and over time I'll be able to feel comfortable to draw, point and shoot when necessary and know everything is lined up how it should be. I can say one of the best drills shown to me for self defense is draw and fire from the stomach/ hip area. There is no chance to use your sights in this scenario and it's a good drill to practice so you have muscle memory not to sweep yourself for keep a hand or arm out in front of your pistol. I do this with the target 4ft or closer. I'd take night sights over factory sights if the gun came with them. If I was spending money on upgrading my sights, dawson precision black front black rears. I do still want to try a green FO front with black rears for competition.
  5. I just quit putting night sights on my guns and went black front black rears and it'd a huge improvement IMHO. If you have a light you'll be able to find your sights with it on.
  6. Thanks. Ordered the small base dies and a Lee fcd.
  7. Any recommendations on what .223 die set up I should use? I picked up my bench the other day from someone on craigslist. Global Industries pedestal cabinets with a 5' x 2.5'x2" piece of maple butcher block for the top.
  8. It probably stands 2.5 ft tall. I decided not to get a case feeder for the 550 as I don't think I'll need it, if you want the case feeder get the 650.
  9. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=655&pictureid=8272 Got everything set up at my buddy's house while I get ready to move and get my bench built. Set up took longer than anticipated but that's part of the learning process of this machine. If I have to help someone out with one sometime I think it'll go much quicker. Reloading on it is so quick and smooth compared to the Lee Turret I'm used to. I first set up my COAL at my guns max with no cushion and went back to check a few rounds and they don't stay perfectly consistent, a good amount were over length so I had to go back and fix them. I moved the die to give room for some cushion and all was fine with the rest of the session with all of the rounds under my max COAL. I've got the bullet bin and case bin on the way for convenience.
  10. You can definitely carry a full size 9mm with a proper holster and a quality GUN belt. Whether you get a full size or not I would say both of these items are necessary, the belt being the most important IMO. Keep in mind that you're buying your gun as a tool, it's not always about it being fun to shoot at the range. If you feel uncomfortable carrying a full size then look for something smaller. On that note I carry the full size mp9 because I feel most comfortable with it and I can conceal it just fine. I definitely print depending on my shirt that day. Check out Glock, I hate the way they feel in my hand and got rid of mine but, they're reliable and go bang. If you like it at all and think it fits your hand well, it should probably be number 1 on your list of considerations. Mags are cheap, upgrades, parts and accessories are everywhere If you like the feel of the P320 I highly recommend it for a first time buyer. You can buy X-Change kits for it and convert it from 9mm to .40 cal to .357 sig in less than 5 minutes. It has the best stock trigger of any striker gun I've used. There is a "carry" option with a full size grip, compact slide length, which you might like. It's new on the market so different sized grip modules and accessories are more difficult to come by. If you want you can try my MP9 with Apex DCAEK trigger kit in it. The stock trigger in the MP series is horrendous and was the only thing that turned me away from them initially. The trigger kits are inexpensive and you can put it in yourself. HK- they're sweet but I won't condition myself to that mag release.
  11. Good show. I watched the first 5 episodes so far and need to finish it. I'm curious to see how many seasons they plan for this show as it moves very fast.
  12. I carry a full size mp9 owb concealed. I'm 5'7" 140lbs. I installed the apex dcaek trigger in both of my mp9 as the stock trigger is very gritty. To check your sights shoot your pistol off the bag to take shooter error out of the equation. I'll vote for the mp9, sig p320, any kahr.
  13. Looking for one of their single stage triggers for my 556 ar
  14. Get a worthy seat, check tire tread, check weather, ride home. Find a scenic route home, it'll be a great time of the year with the leaves changing to take a multi day trip. Scariest day of my life is picking up a bike for a friend in virginia, to ride it home through the mountains in a thunderstorm to see the cords showing when I got home.
  15. Do you still shoot uspsa? I have only done two matches so far since briar is the only place that I know of that holds them.
  16. Also went out to test my first batch of 9mm loads. 147gr xtreme bullets with 3.2gr to 3.5gr of hogdgon titegroup. The 3.2gr seemed to be best, I just need a chronograph to make sure it meets power factor.
  17. Ordered a berry mfg tumbler last night along with the rotary sifter, ordered the Frankfort primer tube filler and my conversion kit for .223 for the 550. Still waiting on the press to arrive.
  18. Check out camera land ny. They normally have great prices on vortex. I had a viper 2-7x32 a while back I liked a lot. Buddy has two. Hitting 650 yards with it on his Mauser in 270 was pretty easy.
  19. Vortex makes a great budget scope. Making sure your scope is in the rings correctly is important.
  20. Looks inexpensive to build and I found a few plans for different ideas online. I think I'll go that route.
