Again and again, I think to myself, "Self? You may love manual transmissions, but look at THIS car! It has {this} and {that}, you can live without a clutch pedal!" And I agree with myself. For a time. Then I get the itch for a clutch. I've gone through this at least 3 times. And it ends the same each time. With the sale of the Lotus, I suddenly found myself without a single clutch pedal to my name. This realization sent me far off the deep end. I may need to be committed, because not only do I keep thinking an auto might hold my interest, but I just drove home in this: Yes, a BRZ again. A 2017 BRZ with three pedals and 6 gears. So good... I've never really gone back to a car I've owned before, even the STI was kind of a different direction to the first, but I really liked my first BRZ and I think I'm going to do it all over again (mostly.) The 2017 does come with some mild updates. The power was increased over the 2013-2016 model.... by 5hp.. That's not a typo. But on the useful side of things, there's now an oil temp gauge that's been shown to be reasonably accurate, and the final drive was bumped from a 4.10 to a 4.30. The suspension was tweaked as well, but I'll likely be throwing most of it out. This car comes with the "Performance Package" which adds Brembo brakes tuned for the BRZ, wider wheels, and better dampers. Other updates include a facelift, better lighting, and the full ROW interior that was skimped on for the US previously. The radio still sucks. The seats still rock. And the torque dip is still there. It's still CR-slow. And it still kicks ass in the corners. I can't wait to start bolting on the parts left over from my last BRZ. I don't plan to put the supercharger back on it just yet. This car will take a similar path as the first one, with a NA/mild suspension setup, then more later. It felt so good driving it home. Oh and Doc, you were right.

This is on my Birthday, I have to attend.

There are only two "Auto" transmissions I've driven that don't send me into a blind, foaming-at-the-mouth rage in daily traffic. The direct-drive transmission in my Volt and Audi's DCT which I had in the S5. Every other auto transmission is absolute shit. Even the Evo's DCT drives me fucking nuts with it's inability to decide how and when it wants to move from a dead stop. Enjoy that car. My S5 was a 2014 and it was a great car with plenty of comfort and presence. I highly recommend getting a set of paddle-extensions. They're great for sporty driving, true, but they also make relaxed driving with manual shifting easier since you don't have to have your hands in the 9 and 3 positions to reach the paddles.

I like how the rear of the body shell is allowed to lift like that. It let the air out into the low pressure area behind the car, and allowed the air to flow through the cockpit and out the escape hatch. That kept the body from acting like a giant parachute and lifting the whole car off the ground and flipping it. Very cool.

I need to get out to some of these. But I also need to sell the Lotus.

True. But I wouldn't know how to properly judge that. And there's no indication of whether the G70's 2.0T will be the same as the one currently shipping in the SF Sport, or if it will be a new design. Maybe someone will be as curious as you and take one apart once they hit the streets.

I don't see much in the way of aftermarket modifications at work. But then, most people who try to make power with an engine stay far away from dealerships.
-
I haven't seen any V6s come in for oil consumption yet. Some of the 3.8s need the timing chain tensioners replaced, but it's rare. Either way, I thing the G70 with the 3.3TT will be a pretty good car. Let's just hope they surprise us with a manual V6, AWD or not.

Both. I've heard two explanations. 1. That the blocks weren't properly cleaned of manufacturing debris before assembly, or 2. The coatings on the bearings were done improperly. There's a campaign out for the 11-14 Sonata and 13-14 Santa Fe Sport. I wouldn't be surprised if a block of Elantras around the same production period are next.

The good news is that Hyundai pretty much bends over backwards to cover this stuff. I've seen them replace an engine with 120K miles on it. As for the $50K Hyundai argument, I'd really recommend taking one for a test drive and looking at it on its own merit, forgetting the badge. They're well made and I don't see any recurring problems with them. I really think the G80 is on par with a BMW 5 series, but $10K less. But if the badge is important, then yes, it wouldn't be for a 50K buyer until Genesis is as well established as Acura/Infiniti/Lexus.

I'm a big fan of CarboTech. Their street pads are great and handle autocross/rallycross really well. But if you want something more aggressive for a weekend, their racing pads can be swapped in without needed to swap/resurface the rotors. Their compounds are "chemically compatible" with each other so once you bed in a set of rotors you can swap pads and not have to do a re-bedding process. This makes them great for weekend warriors who want to swap between street and track pads, or serious track enthusiasts that want to play with compounds to tune their braking for different tracks/conditions.

No. I would never own a Hyundai 4 cylinder engine. A V6 or V8, sure. But we fill our shop pickup with scrap 4cyl engines every month.

Will come with a manual: Yay! Probably only come on the base model: Fuck.

It literally blew the door off the mustang.

Let's Discuss Paint: Bright and Bold? or Dark and Quiet?
Draco-REX replied to ShowHBK's topic in Passing Lane
I used to love black on cars. It just looked mean. But as car styling has incorporated more and more styling elements, I'm finding that black hides it. So with newer cars I'm starting to lean towards brighter colors that show off contours and contract the black accents that manufacturers are adding now. Though I think the new Camaro looks good in both black and lighter colors... The damn thing is growing on me.. -
My only thought is to get rid of compacted snow between the "studs".

He thinks 5s are possible on his setup. I'm just amazed by how well the start holds up.

If I had the money, I'd be all over the 2011-2014 Sonatas and 13-14 Santa Fe Sports...
-
If there were organized events for this, I would be so down. Unfortunately, the PVC isn't cheap. You're looking at $150 - $300 per pair of rings depending on size and whether you want thicker Schedule 80 or cheaper Schedule 40.

Hmm. Manuals are far better for the driving experience. That said, when the Lotus sells, I'll only have 2-pedal cars...
-
Nice car. Ugliest OE wheels ever put on a car however.
-
In CR-Speak, yes. But that's like saying "Haven't driven it but let me guess, the new Mustang has a more powerful engine, but it has Apple Carplay now. Vroom Vroom!"

For me, the strangest thing was watching him in a role where he's a real dick. In general he was a good guy, but man did he treat Jakoby like shit in the beginning.

Kinda hoping this craze dies down before I'm ready to build a new PC. Video card prices are just stupid right now.
