  1. Well you're more knowledgeable than most, and you at least view the situation logically. My point is that thinning carp in a non-river system is near impossible, and a waste of time and effort. The only reasonable culling methods can't be implemented w/o negatively affecting other species in a huge way. The media attention and tournament does nothing other than breed misinformation and false acceptance of cause:solution relationship, which I think is stupid.
  2. Well, the Buckeye Lake Beacon has published the spin that Buckeye Lake for Tomorrow puts on the blue-green algae problem. You will find no legitimate, DNR-backed documentation telling the public to kill carp they catch out of Buckeye. This should explain the issue a bit more accurately: http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2011/06/18/at-buckeye-lake-algae-alerts-dot-all-beaches.html Specifically, note where it says "Blue-green algae, also called cyanobacteria, are fed by phosphorus runoff from manure, fertilizers and sewage." - NOT carp. The introduction of the algae is the root cause, and media and local tourism (which Buckeye Lake for Tomorrow is largely comprised of) has chosen to point fingers at the negligible impacts of carp as a convenient scapegoat. The main problem is the introduction of all the algae-feeding material through runoff into the lake, which is a problem locals and government realizes is WAAAAAY more difficult to address than blaming carp. Carp are bottom feeders, yes, but do they specifically uproot vegetation, NO. Grass carp do somewhat, yes, but common carp (as are found in Buckeye lake) do very little vegetation removal. The biggest problem is runoff, and the unregulated/unmanaged material in that runoff. That said, convincing farmers and the general public to change their behavior isn't nearly as easy as declaring a fish the cause of the problem, and hosting a single-day tournament. As far as stirring up and re-suspending it material, it only seems obvious that having hundreds of unlimited horsepower boats on a lake that is 4-6 feet deep has a much larger impact on stirring up sediment than fish. Aside from all that, the population of carp in Buckeye, as with most lakes in Ohio, is soooo great that a tournament isn't going to affect their numbers to any meaningful degree. A single female carp will lay 200,000-300,000 eggs per spawn. In addition, I do a lot of carp fishing, and I can tell you that there are plenty of lakes in Ohio with VERY dense populations of carp which have very clear water and thriving vegetation. Most have them are very healthy ecosystems in general, with solid populations of more common sportfish as well. The difference between Buckeye and those lakes are that they aren't surrounded by residential properties and commercial agriculture, and they are largely limited to 10hp powerboats. And Derek, sorry for the hijack, but there's a ton of misinformation out there. This seemed like a good opportunity.
  3. LOL You're not supposed to. Prove me wrong. Also explain what environmental problems carp (ohio species) cause. Go.
  4. I use a few different flavored (generally sweet) baits using a hair rig. A lot of guys chum with a variety of grains. I too use corn a lot.
  5. I fish specifically for carp all the time with some buddies, just because they do fight so hard and get so big. That fish you have there looks to be maybe a 7-8 pound fish I'd say. We caught a few saturday morning, where water was around 52 degrees, so the biting ought to really slow down in the next couple weeks. Here is a 22lb 8oz "mirror" carp: http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x33/spankis/Cowan2.jpg And here is a 12 pound common carp: http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x33/spankis/Cowan1.jpg They are a ton of fun, even if people do think you're retarded for fishing for them lol.
  6. I would never buy a 3/4 ton truck with a gas motor, especially a gas motor as small as the 5.4. When you go from a 5.4 F-150 to a 5.4 F-250, you're basically saying, I want to haul more shit in the bed than an F-150 will, and I want to be able to tow slightly more weight. I also want the truck to ride a lot worse when it's unloaded, get worse gas mileage, and be generally slower under all conditions because I'm dragging around a 3/4 ton truck frame.... I never would, for sure.

    WTB - POR-15

I'd say that's very subjective, and probably varies based on the surface you're applying it to. The application instructions make it very clear that it's to be used on notably rusted surfaces, and not just as a coating on cleanish metals. A quick google search regarding POR-15 gave me this from another forum: "I have used both POR15 and the Eastwood copy. I find the POR15 adheres well and virtually nothing will remove it. The Eastwood product came right off the floor plug covers when I tightened the screws down." Needless to say, it depends.

Eh, I doubt it would be enough honestly. I think I got mine from the Napa on South high though, if I recall. I really only covered a 2' x 2' area under the battery box with the amount I've used. Actually, wait, Geerhead Rob decided to use some of it himself on Tyler's Mustang as well.... what great memories.

I have a partial quart of black you can have if it would keep you from buying a full quart, It's probably like 1/4 to 1/3 full but I'd have to check. If you don't think it would cover you I'd prefer to hang on to it though.
  13. Care to share what this was caught on? My grandparents live on Buckeye and I may go try my luck.
  14. Solid idea. The "selective enforcement" argument has worked for me with other issues in the past.
  15. Insight has been doing this as well, pretty much standard insight though. Not even worth a call.
  16. Sorry to hear for sure, but I look forward to seeing the next build for sure. P.S. - looked like you were haulin the mail from the other lane video.
  17. For what it's worth, I believe I heard that Nissan will soon begin offering a diesel in the Titan, as the first to break into the half-ton pickup market with a diesel.
  18. Ford is stopping/have already stopped production of Rangers for the United States apparently because of low demand. From what I was told people really only buy them in the midwest for whatever reason. I still like them, and obviously just bought a new one, but if they offered a diesel in the Ranger I would have 100% gone that route. Like is always the case, Ford DOES actually sell a diesel Ranger in countries which aren't the United States. Frustrating. Obviously it's somewhat a matter of meeting emissions requirements, but I also don't think manufacturers realize the demand for diesels in the United States.
  19. I've considered putting one in my Ranger, and I have one I bought a few years back still new in the box sitting in my garage. I don't think I could stand a gigantic whip though. Is there a 3 footish antenna that's worth having? I've seen guys use a stake pocket mount to put them on the bed.
  20. I just bought a new 4 cylinder/5 spd. ranger in August, and I drove a 97 Dakota with the 318 V8 before that. The Dakota had almost zero rust, and with 275k miles on the original motor it still ran great. Rangers haven't changed the chassis AT ALL since 1998, although the 4 cylinder engine was updated in about 2006 or so I believe. The V6 offerings in the ranger haven't changed since well before that, and the 4.0L makes okay power but it sucks gas and isn't the most reliable. 1997 was the last year for 318(5.2L) V8 in Dakotas, now the only V8 option is the 4.7L, which is a good motor if it's maintained. The 4 cylinder should be overlooked in a truck as heavy as the Dakota, and I believe it may not even be available any longer. The V6 is decent, although it doesn't really save you much in fuel over the V8. People who tell you the dodges eat transmissions are those who don't service them or abuse them. The automatic in my Dakota was perfect until 250k miles.
  21. YOU HAVE TO GO TO THE CHEESE FACTORY. EVERY KIND OF CHEESE EVER. THEY HAVE SAMPLES. DO NOT FORGET.
  22. Several family members have them, as does my girlfriend. None of them have had any issues that I'm aware of, but I do think they all have the nicer/larger units that actually have a water reservoir, rather than having to pour a cup of water through it for each cup. As far as the K-cup packs, you can get them cheaply at Kohls, Sams Club, or online. No big deal.
