Speaking from experience, I own a 69 Beetle. Love it. My Uncle owns a 69 'Vair. Quirky but equally cool. But there is always that nagging feeling for stuffing a V8 in it. I think if I were shopping for either one again I'd personally go for the Corvair. You never see them around hardly anymore, and likely would never get bored with it. Monza Spyder would be the Holy Grail. 180HP Turbo.

Kep, they'll let anyone on here. I need to come visit you.
The bottle caps add that 80's awesomeness that car deserves.......

Thanks Gents. Its getting new paint in a month or so, the Jetta needs to wait. I got a hair up my butt yesterday and repainted the hood. That only depressed me more cause I saw how bad the rest of the car is. That one I will have painted professionally.

Welcome to CR. Got a couple friends who are hardcore VW people. Oh, and I got some good Bug stories. lol
We seem to be few and far between in Columbus. Well, pre-99.5 anyway. VW did build cars before that.
welcome i saw a clean Scirroco in Virgina with a TDI swap50+ mpg. Gotta love that. The cars can weigh under 2k easily. A guy in Mt Vernon is building one. Gonna be very nice.

I was totally bummed when they said last year they were done. This sounds awesome.

Good (re)intro. Welcome back. I love the cars, especially the Scirocco. When they were new, they were one of the coolest cars around .... then for years they seemed to disappear.
+ rep
I think the allure is when I drive it, nobody knows what it is. The parts stores love it when I show up. They schooled in old VW's.
Maybe you should plan, the naked trip to europe for 2011? Either way I like the cars! good luck you should fit in well here.Could I save the bucks and make the run through German Village? I could do that for like three bucks, and do it on a weekend.

VR6 + lack of water from owner not telling dsmer that it must be checked everytime you drive= dead VR6
I'm actually laughing. Do I own anything reliable? Nooooooo

I like you guys too...
James. VR6 + Lack of Water = What??? Oh yeah DSM owner.....

Scirocco owners are an odd bunch. I've owned one off and on for probably ten years, and attend a few club meets a year. I always feel a little out of place. Like I'm not nerdy enough, or I didn't trek through Europe naked in '86. But I keep buying them. It's easy to work on. Which is a good thing, it always needs something.
I was on there once. Looked kinda boring though. I'm on Whoretex a lot though.

speedway at wasterville road...damn i miss that place. good times. I know that old VW from up that way. neighbor hood right behind the old movie theater right?

That was actually the pic I bought it based off of. I know it's been around. I bought form a girl down near Groveport I think.
I love Speedway, I don't live far from that one. Sunbury Rd.

I should probably add, being in Sales I'm often cranky and happy to warn people of their stupidity.

Thank God!!!
Nice looking VW's. I would like to own a Scirocco some day. Yours is cleeeeeean.
Thanks. The underside is cleaner than my Durango. It's stupid.

Great intro, welcome to CR, we have quite a few VW enthusiasts on here. Thanks for joining.
Thank you. Things have calmed down a lot in my life, so I can get more involved in automotive activities again.

Hello all. My name is Erik. I'm a Virgo, I enjoy breezy walks, french fries, flowers, and sappy movies. What ever....
I was on here years ago, but I forgot my name. So I get to start over I guess. For the moment nothing I own is fast. Then again All I own are VW's. How fast could they be?????? Married with Debt up to my arse, and three rockin' kids.
First up is my DD. I just picked it up. 89 Jetta GLI Helios. Little beat, and lots of amateur at best mods half done on it. Nothing that can't be fixed easily. For now it's running the stock 1.8 16V, Aftermarket exhaust, slammed on coil-overs. Perfect DD.... Amazingly 40 MPG so I'm not gonna complain too much. It's one of 1500, and I've always lusted for one, and now I have it. Or as my wife says: Now you're stuck with it...

Next up is my project car. 85 Scirocco. I bought it last summer as a toy from Colorado. Zero, and I mean Zero rust on it. Bad paint and haggard dash. I highly recommend buying cars from out west if you can stand it. This is the first winter in the salt. And it will be its last. Plans are for fresh paint and interior this spring, and next year a Turbo'd 2L 16V. Not sure what kind of suspension I want to go with. If I do any sort of racing with it, it'll be Auto-X. I really don't want to spend a whole lot of time messing with the chassis. The K.I.S.S. principle is going to be vital here. This is really meant to be a budget project, Run decently, and look nice. But who knows. I refuse to go the played out Euro bumper and lighting, stretched tires, and Iron Cross', or checkerboard roofs or hoods. I thought that was cool for about ten minutes.

Then there is clearly the nicest car of the group. My wife's 69 beetle. 99% done. I'm trying to bring myself to finishing the motor. Maybe she'll leave me alone if I finish it..... Really it's a great car, just finding the time and dollars to do it right is tough. In the end, I want it to be better than original.

I've also got a 97 Golf Trek complete with the rack and keys, and a sled of a 04 Dodge Durango, and a 87 GMC short bed I lovingly call Hector.

Your telling me that if he launched the car before he had this problem that he could not have broke his PP? Who knows, but the OP def needs to do some quick checks first and let us know what is up.
