  1. Any Issues with the '14 and up ones? or is it too early to tell? I think my mother has a '14 that was CPO in 2016. she bought it with under 20K miles on it and it probably has maybe 40-50 k on it now. She's been making noise about trading it in but I told her to keep it - if she's driving a time bomb maybe I should give her a call and tell her to dump it.

Too my knowledge they didn't update any of the parts in later models. Im surmising the 12's and 13's are poking their heads just due to age and mileage. If I owned one I would change the oil more often than the recommended interval. Whether that does any good or not Im not certain, but it definitely wouldn't hurt trying to keep the chains and guides happier with fresh oil.

  2. '12-'13 are becoming notorious for timing chain failures. I think most of them have extended coverage but you'd have to verify. If you get me the vin I can check for you.

I specifically bought my wife an '11 with the more reliable N52 6 cylinder. There are a few early '12 models that have this engine as well. Similar power (not as torquey) and maybe slightly less mpg's but way more reliable long term.

The 11 is gonna be the same as a 12 or 13 aside from that. It still gets the ZF 8 speed and everything else pretty nice about the F25 chassis.

I do like the N20 as we had one on lease in an X1 and she liked that car but I wouldn't own one long term. And I work at the dealer..

  3. My small work area. The Napa toolbox I bought when I worked at the parts store when I was 16. I remember it was $1680 at the time. I felt like I made payments on that thing FOREVER!. haha. It's served me well. I wish it had larger drawers but owell.

  4. Boris Maryanovsky at Street Machinery in Euclid is building a Hellcat swapped old C10 for Power Tour right now and I think he’s done one before. Might be him you’re thinking of.

Yep, that's the one I was thinking about. I love all the vehicles they post. I can't believe how many old cars/trucks they pickup to build/resell.

  5. I can see myself being ok with an auto for my next daily. All my DD's have been manuals for the last 21'ish years. I think as I get older, the traffic gets heavier and these autos get better it makes o.k sense.

My wifes X3 has a ZF 8 speed and its excellent. The engine in front of it is a bit wheezy but her previous X1 had a 2L turbo with the same trans and it was a fun little car. So I think it depends on what the auto is paired with and what its in along with the programming. I toO thought 8 speeds was overkill until I drove them. The 10 speed in the mustang might be great as well but the logic is so bad I wouldn't ever consider it even though I loved the rest of the car.

  6. I bought one similar to the second link for my BRZ about 2 years ago. It was in the $300ish range though. It was Android though. Im assuming thats the price discrepancy.

It works okay'ish. In your case I will say the FM tuner is pretty weak. Weaker than any other HU Ive had in any car. In my case I typically tether my phone to it and use internet radio, etc.

I probably shouldn't comment about anything else on it since you're not looking at and Android unit. But Id be concerned about the FM/AM in your case.

  7. You should always be pushing for the next step. My personal issue with that is there is not really a next step without dramatically changing what I do on a daily basis. I'm a GM World Class Technician, what that means is that there is nothing higher to achieve while still turning wrenches. While I may find some minor amount of money doing the same thing somewhere else, I'm pretty much at the top of working on cars. Techs don't typically move into service advising unless they suck at being a tech, and I don't know that any service managers came from being a tech unless they are a service advisor first. Besides I don't really want to deal directly with customers on a regular basis, which also pretty much kills opening my own business too. I guess as much as I like to keep working upward, unless I take some dramatic steps, I'm not going to do that anymore.

I absolutely agree with you. You and I aren't that much different. Ive maxed out what I can do without completely changing what I do aside from being a manager which doesn't appeal to what I enjoy doing. And I think I would still make less money. If I could push for moving up the ladder that would make perfect sense. But as you know in the automotive world, the ladder goes mostly sideways at a certain point.

  8. I don't hate my job but don't love it either. Im pretty bored at this point and wish there was more of a challenge. But the compensation is pretty good and I would definitely take a cut to move onto some else.

Does anyone else have that internal battle on whether you should be satisfied doing what you do? I feel like a good percentage of my friends and family think I've done pretty ok for myself and should be happy.. I continue to wonder if I should be pushing for the next step. I'm always torn.

  9. If you haven't done so already, spend a little time on the trip advisor forums. I use it every time I plan a trip somewhere Im not familiar with. There is always good advise from locals and or people that know the area well. Its a good way to get tips or help with specific questions, itineraries, etc.
  10. We did a FI Tech Command Center setup on a fellow CR members C10 a while back... that thing drove us nuts! Fortunately the pump replacement wasn't a total nightmare but it's really quite annoying taking apart a vehicle you JUST put together and was working fine for a while. FiTech has seen some incredible growth over the past few years and the guys are always extremely nice and supportive but might have out grown their ability to support these days. The in tank pump issue I mentioned cause a .... headache.

Having faith in your old ride not leaving you stranded on the side of the road is important. Some of the fun of the drive is taken away when you are constantly terrified something is going to die.

And thanks for the follow :fuckyeah:

Oh I felt that right off the bat.

The fuel pump died. Stranded me.

Then a few weeks later the starter died. Stranded me.

Then a couple weeks after that the alternator quit. Luckily i was close to home.

I think ive gotten the big bugs works out.. haha
