Look, this is me laughing. I don't wash my cars after ever commute, nor do I clean all my guns after every session. The corrosive ammo ESPECIALLY the 5.45 surplus will rust a bolt shut after burning up a few hundred rounds if left uncleaned for a month or two. Sure, you can mitigate this by shooting a few non-corrosive rounds afterwards to blow out some of the funk, but next time you get your rifle out and see scaly rust on the working parts you may feel differently. I can find you a number of totally off-the shelf AR15s that have gone thousands of rounds without cleaning, and suffered no loss of accuracy, reliability, etc. No, it's not magic- it's called not buying junk. Also, you might find an AK74 that will shoot 3-4 MOA, you might even find a handful. They're a 6 MOA system and there's no way around that. Just like the AR15 is a 3 MOA system. Don't turn shooting into a chore by having to strip and dunk your shit, unless you really want to save the money. Also, have a look at AK74 mag prices vs AR mag prices.

All good info here. Don't be nervous about building and AR. Sticking an upper on a lower is two push-pins and that's it. No fitting, filing, messing around etc. You really can't go wrong with a $600 CMMG. Great value, name brand, might have a scratch or blotchy finish... no biggie.

Well, corrosive ammo is a good way to make fun into work. It's not a big deal, you just have to commit to cleaning your rifle after shooting it or you'll have rust and corrosion/pitting. If you just want something that goes bang and puts holes in stuff, you might want a .22. You can shoot a whole lot more, it's much safer without eye/ear pro, and you'll save tons of money. Still fun though.

Get a complete lower locally. Shouldn't be more than $250/$300. Next, mail-order an upper from BCM, and bang! Good AR for under $1k.

why would you want to put a scope on a 6MOA rifle? Are your eyes really that bad haha? An AR is a much better platform to mount a scope on, and more accurate ammo isn't very expensive. If you want a 2-3 MOA rifle, get an AR. If you want a 6 MOA rifle, get an AK. Be advised if you get a 5.45mm AK or AR, the surplus ammo is corrosive so be prepared to clean right after EVERY session. Not just lube, or pull a snake through the bore... but CLEAN. That means water through the barrel, gas tube, bolt, dry and relube.

What kind of shooting do you do? Are you plinking a couple hundred rounds a month? Running matches or classes with a couple thousand rounds a month? Do you just want a safe-queen to oggle and fondle ()

"Mil-Spec" is something that everyone uses, and few companies really mean. A "Mil-Spec" AR would be an M16 or M4 manufactured by FN or Colt (or a few others depending on generation) and I don't think that's what you're talking about. Other than that, it refers to general dimensions, processes, materials, etc.. When you go to a gun shop and say "I want a mil-spec AR" then the clerk will hand you an AR that is the same size and accepts the same magazines as the military spec weapon. Will it have a military or commercial buffer tube? Will the carrier keys be staked properly? Will the buffer and spring be correct? Will the extractor spring and buffer be correct for the rifle/carbine? Will the barrel be chrome lined with the right twist and chamber? Will the profile be correct? Will the front site base be the right hight for the receiver? Etc. etc. etc. etc. And I'm just getting warmed up to get started. Mil-spec is the biggest BS term used in the whole world of ARs. Jesus, it's so damn irritating people say "I have a mil-spec AR" and before you know anything about it you can see the barrel isn't the right length! Ha! I'm trying to be patient...

Metallurgy, tolerances, assembly, quality control etc. I suggest you check out some AARs and see how many Bushmasters, DPMS, CMMG, etc. ARs shit the bed when put through their paces. Sure you can get a pretty crummy rifle, put a great BCG in it, feed it good ammo out of good mags and it may be 8/10ths as good...

Yes, that is funny. Most people don't work their ARs hard enough to find out where they stop working. A cheap $600 AR will work just fine for plinking, and sitting in a case. That's all most people want/need. If you're going to run a bunch of rounds (1000+) without cleaning it and shoot fast/hard then a $600 AR isn't going to work for you.

It's really a matter of personal preference. I like the firs- you'll probably see douglas and frasier. Just feel the needles when you look, but the scotch pines are prickly and the white pines are softer if I remember right. Have you ever done this before?

I got a CMMG kit back when they were new. It's a little bit fussy about ammo, and the weaker/cheaper .22 like the remington gold (the cheap shit) will short stroke/jam often. I can only run a about four-hundred rounds through mine before it starts to get really unreliable and needs cleaned. CMMG has excellent warranty service though. I had to send mine in because the extractor got chipped and they sent me a brand new unit with a free mag immediately.

Yeah, maps aren't diverse enough. It's really disappointing that COD STILL has no destructible environments, and the sound is still not anywhere near what it should be (look at BC2 or MoH). That and the lag and anti-lag is terrible. I paid $80 and I still have to "buy" damn perks and attachments! Wtf? Zombies are awesome though.
