  1. Usually it's more than just comp submission. Every case is different and every ins co is different in the way they handle things. This took us like a month and a half. A month and a half well worth it IMO. Some cases are easier than others. A lot of people think they can do it themselves, and wind up shooting themselves in the foot because they are so happy they got an extra 15%, when in reality, if they had hired someone who knows what they are doing (cough cough wink wink), they could have got 25% or more. This case with the GT500 was hilarious because the VP of this and VP of that were involved after I got involved and they were sweating it out and even told my friend that this case has caused them to see holes in their policies that they were going to have to go back and address. Also, they dropped his car after the case was settled, which we all expected. The $99281 was on the low end. We could have gone for $120k and could have got damn near close, but that would have involved more complexity, more time (who knows how long), and he was ready to move on with getting his car bought back and fixed. Right now ETA is end of Sept for the car to be done.
  2. Navien is supposedly one of the best. That's what we have here at my work and we are using it on an industrial application.
  3. I just put in a Rheem 50gal so I don't have much to say other than no problems thus far. On a side note, if you have the panel space and enough amps going to your house, have you considered tankless?
  4. Interested to see how it works out. Tim, please post before and after pics.

    The Night Of

    Anybody finish this last night?
  6. That's kind of where I was going. Repairs are so expensive and the design on european cars are somewhat ridiculous. You can circumvent some of this if you are handy and have some tools. I have a very good friend, and a good mechanic who works for a used car dealership. Some of the crap he tells me about these vehicles makes me understand why people hate them. (Not BMW specifically, but european in general). Can't do the brakes without getting into the computer, engines without dipsticks, just a bunch of stupid ish. I had a neighbor trying to do an oil change or something a few years ago on his bimmer, (can't remember specifically what the task was), but the amount of time it took him and the money in special tools and stuff was insane. I remember whatever the job was being simple in theory and I could do on my vehicles quickly and without special tools. I wish I could remember what it was.
  7. There is a reason they lose that much value...
  8. This. BTW, if any of you ever do have a vehicle totaled, hit me up. Friend with a built GT500 got hit by a hit and run driver on the freeway. Ins totaled it out and offered $62500. I got involved and we got him $99281. So he basically went from losing his butt to having the money to pay the car off, buy the car back, have it fixed, and still have some pocket money. FK insurance companies. I love fighting them.
  9. I have received a check for diminished value after a UPS truck hit my rear bumper... It wasn't hard to "pull off."
  10. Which FF track. I feel like I should know this, but can't place it...
  11. Zima...now that takes me back to seeing commercials as a kid of awesome yuppies bringing packs of zima to their urban cookout.
  12. Not sure if this is the right section, so Mod, please move if necessary. I am wondering if you guys know of places to find the bigger holset model turbos that are NOT ebay and craigslist. I am talking H1E/HX40 and bigger. These turbos came on a lot of applications like marine, machinery, and buses. All things you don't usually see (or at least I don't) in your typical junk yard. Are there specialized junkyards for this kind of equipment? With everyone and their brother retrofitting holsets in recent years, the prices for these things in you standards markets are too high imo, especially considering I just want a rebuildable core. I'm not paying $400 for a dirty, rusty HX40 with a 58mm inducer when I am going to have to put another $400-$600 into machine work and upgraded parts. At that point I mind as well just buy a brand new BW S363-SX-E. It seems long gone are the days of cheap holsets for the most part, but I know they are still out there. I just need some direction on where to look. I am typically pretty resourceful when it comes to car parts, but like I stated above, you just don't see the kind of equipment in the junk yards, at least not the many on the same street I hit up frequently here.

  14. Just isn't the same without a car to thrash I am still working on breaking in this new curt brown motor. If I can keep from breaking it...maybe i'll trailer the car up there next year. JP, you better have some good vids of your beast up there.
  15. I agree that the scope of kids in these situations is most likely far greater than most people know.
  16. Maybe some of us are smart enough to not experience on our own. "Person A touches fire. Person A get's burned. Person B sees all this. Person B has determined they should not touch fire, because they saw what happens when people do." I know way too many people living in misery, incarcerated, and dead because of drug and alcohol abuse. Family members included. Is compassion called for. Sure. Indeed we should show compassion and give 2nd chances. But there is a difference between making a bad decision, and it being a slippery slope you need help out of. It's another to make it a lifestyle to make bad decisions. My cousin...who has been in and out of jail more times than I can count for drugs and theft doesn't want to get help. She get's just enough help to satisfy the state because the state gives her money and pays for her apartment! She doesn't talk about how hard it is to stop being an addict. She makes excuses and says it's not her fault because it's genetic. There was nothing she could do to prevent becoming an addict. At some point you just have to adult and get your sh*t together.
