  1. Well that really sucks. Show up anyways and get some rides and have fun. Then get some summer tires on cheap wheels if you can and make sure your car is ready to go and get ready to learn what your limits are.
  2. Correct me if I'm wrong. You don't have to be 18 to race, you just have to have a valid drivers license to race. I did a few events when I was only 16 or 17. Or did I sneak in under the radar because my dad raced in the same car?
  3. I actually went to a couple of their meetings, The OSU Sports Car Club, and they had mentioned setting up an autocross day. I haven't gone to the meetings for a couple months now, but they seemed pretty serious about finding the money to try it out. They don't have many members, maybe 25, and some don't have cars so they would probably love to have more people come. They aren't having any more meetings this quarter because of finals this week, but I guess I'll have to start going next quarter and see if this is really going to happen.
  4. Haha, took me awhile, but I just found them. I really wish we had a video of a run and a picture of all the crap we tried to fit in the trunk to get traction. I even turned the boost down to about 10psi, made it so max boost didn't hit till 4500rpm and rev limiter down to 5000rpm thinking I could get traction, but I still couldn't even short shift before boost hit. A video of me trying to leave would have been nice too. I'll prove myself sometime this summer when I run even with Robert.
  5. You forgot these.... Hocking Hills trip #1 http://photos-b.pe.facebook.com/photos-pe-snc1/v341/196/81/729585444/n729585444_4434801_9064.jpg http://photos-d.pe.facebook.com/photos-pe-snc1/v341/196/81/729585444/n729585444_4434819_5958.jpg Hocking Hills trip #2 http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v359/14/16/1022174346/n1022174346_181460_5118.jpg
  6. Finding a lot big enough for the faster and bigger cars for this season is going to be very hard. BMC has been searching for a new lot to run at for a few years now, but can't find one for under double what they pay for the Historical Society. I know SCCA pays a pretty penny for the OSU lot and you have to book National Trails way ahead of time because the weekends fill up quick. And there aren't many other good lots to run in because schools won't allow it and stores are open 7 days a week. Last I heard from BMC was that they actually took the last dates available this summer for the Historical Society so if SCCA would like to help, that's going to be our best bet.
  7. I would love to throw in another autocross this summer. Smaller groups are always better as you get a lot more seat time. MrAutoX - If you can't get SCCA to lend us cones, I could talk to the guys at Buckeye Miata Club to see if they would rent us their cones and timing equipment. The Cobra Club holds an autocross every year and rents everything from BMC.
  8. Oh the joy of leaving the stock classes... Is EM basically a catch all class? The SCCA class descriptions don't say very much about it. I guess I'll just have to decide which class when I get there by how many are signed up so far.
  9. Thanks AJ. So is there no SM2 or whatever class this year. I thought I would only be against 2 seaters? I'd love to still try it out since SCCA generally has a lot more open tracks than BMC and I can really use the extra power I have over a stock Miata.
  10. So I've upgraded from my dad's Miata (CS) to my "new" turbo Miata for this season. I am obviously in SM because of the modifications, correct? I will be the first to admit this car is scary on the street with 240whp at 14psi. This will be my 3rd season full season with the Buckeye Miata Club where I took 1st two years a go and 2nd last year in CS. I've heard that the top guys at BMC usually would place around top 4-6 at SCCA depending on who shows up. I'd like to be competitive if I go to SCCA, or atleast in the top half of my class within a reasonable time of the lead. So my question is, how competitive is SM? Would I be completely out of my league in SM? Should I just take my dad's car and race CS if I go? Am I able to stay in a Novice class for SCCA since I've never raced SCCA or in my car? thanks in advance
  11. When I started looking I knew I wouldn't get a red or white Miata unless it was extremely cheap. I would have accepted black, but they are too popular too. I never meant to get the same color as my dad's (Mazda only made it in BRG in '91 and '01) but I couldn't pass up the deal I got. It has almost everything I wanted to do anyways, the Turbo and stock look being the main things. I'd be more than happy to give rides at Autocross. I mostly go to the Miata Club ones, but I think I'm going to try SCCA a few times this season if I can figure out how to drive a relatively high boost turbo on the course. Most people don't even realize it's a turbo until they get pushed back in their seat or hear the BOV. That's probably one of my favorite things about the car, it's such a sleeper! If you have the money and your dad will let you, definitely go FI. It doesn't mess with the 50/50 weight distribution and its plenty fast when you want it but still can get 35+ mpg on the highway if your easy on it. Thanks for all the welcomes and the pleasant surprise of no one hating on Miatas. haha
  12. Sorry, no LS1 in the future for this Miata. I'm still getting used to the jump from a stock 120ishwhp to a turboed 240whp.
  13. i think its Image Shack. I've never had a problem on forums with it though. And I don't know what the links are at the bottom of each picture, they didn't show up until I posted. Image Shack must have put them on there
  14. Hello everyone, Just checked the rules, hopefully this first post is good enough. I've lived in Columbus for about 8 years now. Always been a car nut and finally got enough money to get my first car last year. It took 3 years of searching on and off to find it at the right price. This summer will be my 4th year of autocross. First 3 in my dad's '01 BRG Miata in CS, now my '91 BRG Miata with some goodies under the hood in EM/SM. I've also been drag racing multiple times at Norwalk, National Trails and a track in Marion in all my families cars(Yukon XL, Audi S4, and the two Miatas) That's about it. Now for some pictures. The two Miatas together http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/5745/washedmiatas.jpg http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/washedmiatas.jpg/1/w604.png Kinda a dark picture, but the car is garaged for the winter so I don't have many good pictures http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/449/dark91.jpg http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/dark91.jpg/1/w604.png And of course Topless. Can't wait for summer http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/540/topless.jpg http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/topless.jpg/1/w604.png "New" car racing debut at Hangover Nationals 09 http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/1940/hangovernationals.jpg http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/hangovernationals.jpg/1/w604.png And of course an engine shot http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/3245/engineshot.jpg http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/engineshot.jpg/1/w604.png Hopefully these are good enough pictures of my car as these are the only ones I got before I put it away for the Winter.
